Visited Piney Acres in October and had a blast. Lots of farm animals to feed and look at. My 2 year old LOVED it!

I don't think I've ever been on a farm with so much stuff for kids to do! Especially during the fall season, when they bring out their special stuff, like the enormous jump pad that's like bouncing on a giant, inflatable mattress; the Barnyard Twister that spins you around as you try to walk through it; pedal cars; hayrides; gem mine; and the 8-acre corn maze. They also have an amazing playground that's open all year, or at least when the farm is open. And let's not forget the farm animals. They're all in a big, fenced area, co-existing peacefully together. It's really quite cute to witness. There are goats, chickens, pigs and a rooster just kickin' it and freeranging. Sometimes, they will come up to the fence and sniff your hand. Piney Acres Farm has a pumpkin patch full of pumpkins, but we never made it over there -- there was too much other stuff to do. During the Christmas season is when they will let you cut your own Christmas tree from their 73-acre farm.

We came here for our Christmas tree this past weekend and had a good experience! The weather was terrible but we still had plenty of service from their tree staff outside. We were able to easily grab a saw and sled. Our tree was reasonably priced for the quality! However, we had a tough time determining the species we were looking at while out in the u-cut area. The sections are numbered but aren't laid out very logically for newcomers. And the section signs do not show the tree species - so we were very concerned we were accidentally going to cut down an "untagged" fur when we were aiming to get a pine. We especially enjoyed the little orange cat that followed us around on the grounds though!

It's that time of the year when all I want to do is go to pumpkin patches and apple orchards! Piney Acres is a 73 acre farm located in Fortville, Indiana, which is about 40 min northeast of downtown Indy. Piney Acres has ALL the fall things like pumpkin picking, gourds, Indiana corn, hayrides, multiple corn mazes, barnyard animals and more. They also have an apple canon which is brand new this year! If you're looking for a great fall spot to take the family, they extended their kids zone to include a ton of fun activities like swings, slides, rock wall, cow barrel train, jump pad, mega slide, hay mountain and much more. They definitely have a lot more for kids to do that some other places do! Last thing, I recommend trying the "children's" corn maze first, the adult one is very difficult!

    Beautiful sunset on the farm.

Thanks for hosting the boy scouts after hours. The event was great. My son enjoyed the hayride. We got so much information about the trees and farm. Did you know pine trees grow about a foot a year? So I guess I'm the height of a five year old tree. The gem min was fun too. My son has become obsessed with rocks and this was a great activity for him. Can't wait to bake our pie pumpkins.

Such a fun pumpkin patch for all ages! We went with our 1 year old and 5 year old and could easily spend an entire day at Piney Acres Farm. You pay one price for general admission and pay a little extra for the big attractions like gem mining, hay rides and the jump pad (which is awesome!) Our older daughter's favorite parts were the cow train ride and the playground and our youngest loved feeding the animals (goats, sheep, pig, chickens) and the jump pad. The fall funnel cake is amazing and everyone there was so kind! New this year they have an apple cannon and a huge tumbler that is hysterical for all ages. Totally worth the drive!

Piney Acres was a great family experience! They had tons of trees to choose from- different styles and sizes. The employees were very helpful with choosing the right one for our space and answering questions about the different types of trees. There was a large playground and hayride going- but we didn't do either this trip. The families on board looked like they were having a blast! There's a nice little fire pit outside and a lodge like area for snacks and hot (& cold) drinks. There was also a shop full of Christmas ornaments and decorations. So cute! And all the Christmas music really gets you in the Christmas spirit. The prices are comparable with other places we've purchased from in the past- but they definitely offered a much better experience. We decided to make this a tradition every year!

Family fun! My BFF and I took our families here for some fall fun. The price is very reasonable for everything you get. The gem mining, animal petting hay ride and corn maze all included in general admission. You can get food to feed the animals for an additional cost. Parking is easy and free. The staff are all extremely friendly. Plenty of large open space for social distancing. All of the staff wore masks. So much for the kiddos to do. We took kids ranging from 2-17yo. It was a little childish for the 17 yr old but the 2-12 year olds loved it. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for the haunted hay ride. Unfortunately it was not open that night so we did the haunted loft. It was a bit over priced but it was good. I wouldn't say it is recommended for children unless your child likes scary and gorey things. This is no children's museum haunted house.

Pedal cars and bikes on their own little paved course!

So this year, we finally got to enjoy it again, as a family. But this year, grandbabies joined us! At $5 a head, we had an enjoyable afternoon together. We didn't check out the corn maze, nor do pony rides. But we did enjoy some prime family photo time in the pumpkin patch, while picking out a few small pumpkins for the grand daughters. Compared to the cost of pumpkins in the store, they are a little higher. But you do get the experience of picking your own and supporting a local small business. Our granddaughter that's mobile enjoyed every bit of the sensory buffet available. From the play equipment, to dancing to the live music, and petting and interacting with the farm animals. She had a great time sliding down the huge pile of hay, over and over, by the pumpkin patch. We found the concessions to be a bit of a bummer. They didn't offer a lot of the great fall treats like they use to. And you can only use a card if you're spending at least $5. So when we all started to get thirsty and have the nibbles, we left and moved to our next destination.

I attended the Sunflower Festival this weekend with my husband, sister and niece. There's really something for everyone. They have a gift shop as well as a neat and novelty grocery dept. There was a kids entrepreneurial endeavor as well where we bought some trinkets and sunflower pillowcases made by the kids who were selling them directly. Great concept! Whether you'd like to snack on delicious, fresh cider donuts while sipping on apple cider slush or have a smash burger & watch your wood fired pizza being made for lunch, the food and drinks are guaranteed to keep you in good spirits. The festival admission includes two fresh cuttings of any sunflowers of your choosing as well as three zinnia cuts. They hand you a pair of clippers and you then get to venture out into the "Fields of Gold"-- to quote Sting. It's overwhelmingly beautiful. The admission also includes tractor & train rides around the farm, access to the big slides (child sizes too) playgrounds and the opportunity to go apple picking for an additional fee. Prices are all pretty reasonable for an event like this one and parking is free. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They have activities for kids to keep them busy and entertained. 10/10 will be returning again next year.

Last night was the third time I attended Harvest Nights. This was the first time I arrived before it was dark so it was less spooky and a bit more wholesome in the daylight. We arrived at 7 and stayed until about 9 pm to experience everything lit up after dark. When you arrive, you're surrounded by stacks of pumpkins in every size, shape, color and type imaginable. Beautiful Fall arrangements are everywhere you look. The Fungi Forest was something new I haven't seen before. Very cool! I felt a bit like Alice in Wonderland encompassed by giant mushrooms towering above illuminated by strategically placed neon lights. One of the highlights of the event was the Cutwater Lounge--a 21+ space upstairs in the Lily House transformed into "Mischief Manor" only for Harvest Nights. The bartender told me this was the first year having this feature. We had a flight of the Cutwater alcoholic beverages that included a snack mix of tasty treats. The Mule and Espresso Martini were our favs with the margarita coming in 3rd. Cutwater's take on the Lemon Drop (which is a drink I typically enjoy) was strong yet tasted a bit watered down. The adult only experience wasn't very well marked (it's upstairs) and signage in general--starting at the parking lot entrance--needs improvement. I'm not sure we would have known about the adult area had it not been for the nice lady who sold us some yummy sweet potato fries with sage and bourbon maple dip. The Spider Stomp, Ghost Train and light show projected onto the Lily House all add to the overall experience. The seasonal food and drink options are great albeit a bit pricey. Passed on the $12 Bavarian pretzel but had to try Elysian Pumpkin Ale and wanted to try the cider but $14 was a little steep. It's not necessary to spend $20 for premium parking that they pressure you to purchase when you first pull into the lot. I recommend getting there early and wearing some of your best walking shoes. It's a cashless campus so good to keep that in mind. Love Newfields and can't wait for Winterlights in a couple months!
