My family had an amazing time at the winter days for Piney acres! Your price for your Trainer tractor ticket also gets your kids activity crafts and hot chocolate and cookies and a meeting with Santa! The meeting with Santa was one of the best experiences we've ever had with a Santa Claus! They have a separate Santa Shack and families can go in one at a time so it's a more intimate and meaningful experience than having a line of people crowded behind you while you're trying to talk to Santa. The Santa was so jolly and sweet and my kids were all smiles the entire time. We had time to take pictures without a crowd around which we really enjoyed as well, and I'm definitely making these shots our family Christmas cards for the year! I'd love if there was a way for the farm to cover the train and tractor with a clear tarp if possible so that it wouldn't be so cold while you're looking at the lights. But also understand that you will be outside on about a 20 minute ride while you enjoy the lights so make sure you bundle up! read more

Drove 40 minutes to attend the kick off to the Autumn season. The mood was very 'whomp whomp'. At other farms in the area the Autumn season felt 'festive' - with music playing, decorations and smiling staff. Piney Acres seemed not quite ready for visitors. First, the pricing for entrance at the register didn't state what was charged for children under 16. Instead I paid the adult price for myself and two kids under age 6. The farms website says children up to age three pay $5. My son just turned three. Not a huge deal but kind of annoying. For $30 we couldn't go on the train or the big slide or the fossil dig. We could go on the cow train but I never found anyone standing near it. Did I have to go find someone? I still have no idea. My son wanted to do it. The fun things we did do were play in the 'sand' (more like fine gravel) play area, see the pigs and goats and pick pumpkins to buy. One thing we wanted to do but didn't was the bounce pad. It was filthy! Covered in sun baked mud. My oldest was really disappointed. The staff here were nice when we interacted with them, but they all seemed very preoccupied with talking amongst one another. I waited quite a while to have someone tally up my pumpkin order. No one seemed to know who was in charge of that task. I will say I bought a fair number of pumpkins and was fully expecting the total to be over $50 and it was only $29. This is a difficult review to write because the setting of this place and the offering to the patrons, most specifically for the kids, is outstanding. There are so many things to do for the kids: from mining for gold to petting goats, looking at reindeer, pigs, chickens and more. Plenty of jumpy building riding games (over sized tricycles, bikes, scooters and more, easing pigs), hayrides, a scaled size train ride, hills to climb and ropes to scale! The issue was and multiple patrons during our time there was we never felt welcome by those working there. We seemed to be a bother and nuisance! One guy even scolded us for not placing some of the rides back where they belonged and our kids were still playing in them. The guy driving the tractor for the hayride came of grumpy and frustrated that he had to be interrupted from something yet he was the one that come out said yelled hayride time. Even the lady taking our money seemed perturbed that people were standing in line. Get past the people that run the place and it's a nice visit read more

So we started getting live Christmas trees about 10 years ago. We originally started at Dull's. It was great until a couple years ago when it started getting much more crowded. We live in Geist and originally didn't mind the drive because it was worth the experience. However, the crowd caused us to go some place closer to home this year. As such, we chose Piney Acres. This place has a lot of potential to be a superb Christmas place. The setup is great, but the overall experience was completely lousy. We came for a Christmas tree, but when we pick out our tree, we want to get some good food and drinks as well, including good hot chocolate. The food here was overpriced and not good at all. The cheeseburgers were over-seasoned, overdone and thin. There were also no toppings like lettuce and tomato you could put on them. The hotdog my daughter ordered looked absolutely terrible. Small and overcooked. The food experience was terrible. Then, we go to pick out our tree and not only do they just have sleds to put your tree on instead of roll carts like Dull's, but then we had to walk about half a mile just to pick one out. That was fine, as long as we found a good tree. It turns out we found one, an 11 footer that took me a lengthy time to cut down with the hand saw. It then took even longer to drag it on the sled the half mile back (Sleds are a terrible idea, get the roller carts). It was a heavy tree, but we thought it would be worth it because it was just what we wanted. Here comes the bad part. We get it back and it apparently was already sold. We didn't realize this until we got back and one of the workers said it had already been picked by a family and tagged. There was no big RED sold tag on the top of it which would've made it real simple to understand. Instead, it simply had a price tag on it and a small note on the back saying it had been sold to another family. The tag was small so we didn't even see it when we went to cut it. I was even more annoyed that this employee couldn't even talk properly because he was shoving a giant slice of pizza in his mouth (How about give your employees eating breaks where they can shove pizza in their face?). The simple solution is to clearly mark it as sold with a big red tag the way Dull's does, right at the top of the tree so you can't miss it. So I asked the employees what we should do and if they would let us keep it since I spent a significant time cutting it and walking it back and they said they would have to call the people that reserved it. They apparently called them and couldn't get a hold of them. So I said, "Okay, well what do you want me to do, can you please make a decision?" It was freezing cold outside and at this point we just wanted to leave. Apparently this employee I was talking with was actually the owner. He said there was nothing they could do, they would have to get in touch with the family that picked it out first. He called them and apparently they didn't answer. At this point I was not happy. As an owner, he should've realized everything we had to go through, cutting it down and dragging this thing back a half mile. He should've said, "Just take it," we'll figure something out with the other family. Of course he didn't do that and said there was nothing he could do. We had already been there for a long time, so I said forget it and just picked out another pre-cut tree. It was a 10.5 footer and ended up costing just over $300. Besides tax, they also charged us a 3% credit card fee that was clearly marked on the receipt. If you have to make up for this processing fee, put it in your price like all other businesses do. Of course they purposely don't do that, they tack it on at the end to confuse you, so your tree ends up costing you much more than you thought it would, and keep in mind, these trees are already more expensive than other places. This really irritated me since the tree itself was much more than I previously paid at Dull's, then they tack on this extra fee. This place has the potential to be really good, but it is poorly managed. We also got the tree home and it had a bunch of crap in it like they didn't shake it out. Dull's does that with every tree. The food was also terrible. Have some good food, people want a Christmas experience when they are going out and spending a bunch of money on a tree. Cook some good brats, have some actual good hamburgers with the proper fixings. Make some really good chili or something. Also, maybe have a camp fire going outside where people can warm up like Dull's does. We will not be going back to Piney Acres next year and I would advise you not to go either. There are much better places to go. You will get screwed on the experience and the price of your tree. Hopefully this review provides some good insight and information for you. read more

Our family enjoyed the train ride through the pine trees and festive Christmas lights. our next stop was a visit to Santa's cozy cabin then off to enjoy fresh baked cookies and the best tasting hot chocolate I've ever had. I don't think I've ever been on a farm with so much stuff for kids to do! Especially during the fall season, when they bring out their special stuff, like the enormous jump pad that's like bouncing on a giant, inflatable mattress; the Barnyard Twister that spins you around as you try to walk through it; pedal cars; hayrides; gem mine; and the 8-acre corn maze. They also have an amazing playground that's open all year, or at least when the farm is open. And let's not forget the farm animals. They're all in a big, fenced area, co-existing peacefully together. It's really quite cute to witness. There are goats, chickens, pigs and a rooster just kickin' it and freeranging. Sometimes, they will come up to the fence and sniff your hand. Piney Acres Farm has a pumpkin patch full of pumpkins, but we never made it over there -- there was too much other stuff to do. During the Christmas season is when they will let you cut your own Christmas tree from their 73-acre farm. read more

We came here for our Christmas tree this past weekend and had a good experience! The weather was terrible but we still had plenty of service from their tree staff outside. We were able to easily grab a saw and sled. Our tree was reasonably priced for the quality! However, we had a tough time determining the species we were looking at while out in the u-cut area. The sections are numbered but aren't laid out very logically for newcomers. And the section signs do not show the tree species - so we were very concerned we were accidentally going to cut down an "untagged" fur when we were aiming to get a pine. We especially enjoyed the little orange cat that followed us around on the grounds though! read more

Such a fun pumpkin patch for all ages! We went with our 1 year old and 5 year old and could easily spend an entire day at Piney Acres Farm. You pay one price for general admission and pay a little extra for the big attractions like gem mining, hay rides and the jump pad (which is awesome!) Our older daughter's favorite parts were the cow train ride and the playground and our youngest loved feeding the animals (goats, sheep, pig, chickens) and the jump pad. The fall funnel cake is amazing and everyone there was so kind! New this year they have an apple cannon and a huge tumbler that is hysterical for all ages. Totally worth the drive! read more

Piney Acres was a great family experience! They had tons of trees to choose from- different styles and sizes. The employees were very helpful with choosing the right one for our space and answering questions about the different types of trees. There was a large playground and hayride going- but we didn't do either this trip. The families on board looked like they were having a blast! There's a nice little fire pit outside and a lodge like area for snacks and hot (& cold) drinks. There was also a shop full of Christmas ornaments and decorations. So cute! And all the Christmas music really gets you in the Christmas spirit. The prices are comparable with other places we've purchased from in the past- but they definitely offered a much better experience. We decided to make this a tradition every year! read more

Good variety of outdoor activities for the kids. The kids basically ran around from one thing to the next. Some different things here that aren't at other pumpkin patches. Corn maze wasn't really a maze, just one path. We got there at noon when it opened and planned on eating in their cafe since it had a variety of lunch options. Only to find out it was closed when we got there because the employee didn't show up to work. So I'd just suggest calling beforehand to make sure the cafe is open if you plan on eating there. read more

Family fun! My BFF and I took our families here for some fall fun. The price is very reasonable for everything you get. The gem mining, animal petting hay ride and corn maze all included in general admission. You can get food to feed the animals for an additional cost. Parking is easy and free. The staff are all extremely friendly. Plenty of large open space for social distancing. All of the staff wore masks. So much for the kiddos to do. We took kids ranging from 2-17yo. It was a little childish for the 17 yr old but the 2-12 year olds loved it. We enjoyed it so much that we went back for the haunted hay ride. Unfortunately it was not open that night so we did the haunted loft. It was a bit over priced but it was good. I wouldn't say it is recommended for children unless your child likes scary and gorey things. This is no children's museum haunted house. read more

How is this place not packed to the brim with people?!? It is sunny and chilly on the second weekend in October and nothing here is packed, most activities don't have a wait at all. It's wide open with so much room, there is a TON to do for all ages, most covered in $12 general admission. I had kids 6, 10, & 12 here and they all had fun, no complaints. The playground and "gem mine" area is super cool, the kids loved panning for gemstones in their bags. I've been to a few other family fun farms in the past for fall fun (usually north-side) and this is by far the best. Literally the only thing I would appreciate more of is benches and trash cans next to them. Overall I'm floored at the quality compared to the competition, we'll definitely be back. read more

We were so excited to come here and have a family fun day. Unfortunately that's not what happened. Almost every area had broken toys/equipment. For instance the pedal cars were all broken and unrideable except one that had a loose wheel but at least went. Then they were out of pumpkins so we couldn't even get the annual pumpkin patch picture with the kids. $45 to play on broken equipment and get no pumpkin. Such a disappointment. This is the second year in a row that we've gotten our tree at Piney Acres Farm. Last year I felt like our tree was a great quality, good price and lasted. The only hiccup last year was that one of the tractors had broken down, so we elected to walk out to the "cut your own" trees. It was wicked cold and my husband took FOREVER in picking out a tree. There's a little cabin where you can get hot cider and snacks as well as buy interior decorations and wreaths. The nice attendants will load the tree on top of your car, etc. This year, I bought a coupon so my husband headed out to pick up our tree today. He was so excited, he didn't think to check the hours of operation before driving our there. He arrived a full hour before they opened. When he called from the parking lot to find out when they openeing - the kind employee allowed him to come pick out our tree!! Now THAT is customer service! read more

This place is a JOKE! Piney Acres is definitely not worth your time or money. As a person that worked for the farm during the Christmas season, I will never work there again. Not only do they charge an arm and a leg for a Christmas Tree, their claim to pay their employees between $8-10 per hour is a complete lie. First, the owner is not upfront about exactly what an employee will be making. Rex Zenor beats around the bush until his pen hits the check and suddenly an employee could be making less than minimum wage. I believe he knows there is some type of loophole around paying people what is actually legal. Second, try to get a paycheck before you have worked 10 hours or more; it won't happen. Finally, working on a farm, a Christmas Tree farm at that, is extremely hard work. There were some days I worked 12 hours without a break or something to eat. For the majority of the employees, this past season was their first year on the farm. Makes sense, as most people would not waste their time working their butt off for less than minimum wage. Turns out, this happens every year. One would think Rex would get himself together and fix this problem; considering he wants to continue running the farm for his family. read more

Piney Acres Farm is a great place to spend the day with family. We went to the corn maze and had a blast twisting and turning through the maze. There are trivia questions throughout the maze that add a little something something to the experience. Piney Acres also offer a pick your own pumpkin patch and cut it yourself Christmas trees. The main store has pre picked pumpkins, gourds, home decor and a nice little snack bar. Out back there is a really neat setup to mine for gems. For the 2017 Holiday season, we visited as a part of a larger group of homeschoolers and received the royal treatment. We were given a tour of the outside grounds while riding on a hayrack pulled by a tractor. Everyone got to stop and feed the animals (goats, chickens, pig, etc.), which of course all kids enjoyed. We came back inside to hot chocolate and some stories and learning about the Christmas season. The employees were always very caring and attentive to everyone. From a customer service perspective, Piney Acres is top notch. I can't speak too much to prices, but the quality is also top notch for live trees, wreaths, garlands and other decorations made from the trees and plants on the farm. Their was a poor tree selection but when we did find one we liked and took it home, the home was drilled incorrectly for the stand we had purchased. We tried to correct ourselves since I was unable to drive back because of foot surgery but had to buy new stand and saw to fix. When I called Piney Acres to discuss, the owner was extremely rude and unsympathetic. We will not be back to Piney Acres and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

We went here last night for the first time due to time constraints. Everyone was very nice and helpful not a problem. Yet fundamentally I have an issue with tree selection. Not only is pricing 50% higher than my usual spot, a majority of the tree selection tagged is not their best available and I think this is intentional. The notice upfront is if you see a tree not tagged you can pay an additional 25$ on top of the base price. Point being is a majority of the trees that are mature and ready are not tagged, thus forcing you to spend an additional 25$ due to lack of selection. Either those trees are slated for wholesale somewhere else or they want an additional 25% profit on the already overpriced 50% higher sale price. It was pretty clear to me that this was a price strategy I would not sign up for. We did find a beautiful tree that we overpaid for, not only due to the price but the measurement includes a 16 inch needless stem that will be cutoff anyways at the top. We appreciated the free popcorn and hot chocolate for the kids in the end and the service to put the tree on our car. Very polite and helpful, just will not go back. read more

My 8 YO granddaughter and I spent 5 hours of farm & fall fun at Piney Acres Farm. It was great not to have to deal with long lines and the commercialized version seen other places. Children move freely area-to-area and experience hands-on activities, entertainment and exercise while playing. Eva particularly liked the gem mine and discovering what types she had found while panning. The bounce slide and "cow ride" were other favorites. Staff were personable and accommodating. We've been coming here since we moved back to Indiana. It's always a fun, memorable winter adventure. Piney grows an excellent selection on trees and you may ride a wagon out to the area of tree species you desire. They sell both u cut and imported pre cuts all priced by the foot depending on the species of tree. A large (10-15) selection of types of trees and greenery garland goodies will keep you wandering. Although not my style, they showcased some funky spray painted trees reminiscent of the Charlie brown pink aluminum trees..pretty rad. They provide small popcorn and hot cocoa for after your adventure, and while your tree is processed, in their shop of cute kitschy Christmas baubles. The homemade soy candles are amazing and very well priced. While enjoying your complementary snacks, they shake your tree and bale it. Once you've paid up in the store, show up outside with your paid tag, hop in line and they will carry it to your car.. no worries about securely tying to your vehicle..they do that too! We got there early on Sunday after thanksgiving to avoid crowds, but it was packed. There were 10 minutes waits for each step of the process but the kids had a great time. Santa was even there on our visit passing out candy canes! I wish the snack selection was healthier, but I wish that everywhere. Which also reminds me of their nice selection of honey and flavored honey sticks. An 8' tree will run you nearly a bill, but I think the overall experience us well worth it. read more

Piney Acres began as a tradition for us when we lived in Indy, and now we drive down from Fort Wayne, after searching around in the area and finding nothing comparable.
