The worst customer service I have encountered, anywhere. If I could rate Hot Pink Cake Stand less than one star, I would. I called yesterday (Tuesday) and spoke with someone very friendly and very competent, whom was confident that she could complete my order for pick up on Friday for my son's party on Saturday. She did mention that they would have to get the order in today (yesterday) but that it was absolutely no problem, and for me to simply email them pictures of what I would like my son's cake to look like. Mind you, my son is severely allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. If you have any experience with food allergies, you will immediately recognize that I am relieved (beyond words) when I finally find someone that says that they can absolutely do a cake for my 2 year old. It's rare to feel comfortable with someone else preparing my child's food. My original call to HPCS was at 11:34 and my email with photos was sent at 1:11. I was told they check their email frequently. I called back to check on my email at 2:06, no answer. I called back at 7:13 and I explained who I was, what I had been told so far, and that I wasn't really familiar with how the process worked. I asked what I needed to do at that point. This was a different associate and she told me that Ashley would be in contact with me tomorrow but she had left at 5. I called at 2:43 today, becoming worried about why I had not been contacted. Again, I gave my name and explained what I had been told up until this point. To my HORROR, I am told that they are "all booked up for the weekend.....now." Now. I didn't call to place this order now. She said they could still do cupcakes. I was enraged. I explained that it is Wednesday and no one had even notified me that they couldn't do a cake for me, and also I didn't want cupcakes, I wanted a cake, and that I would try elsewhere. Her response? "We're sorry. Bye!" I have since called back and asked for a manager. The associate on duty today seems to be unaware of where her manager is and what time her manager will be in. Thank goodness I found another bakery that is not only willing to do nut free but was also very courteous and more than happy to help me. I will be serving cupcakes, unfortunately. read more

If you want to take a break somewhere super cute, this is the place. If you want good cupcakes, this is probably not the ideal location. I will give them points for having vegan/lactose-free offerings. My friend had a vegan cupcake that she said was pretty good. I had a yellow cake with chocolate frosting cupcake. It tasted okay, but not great. The real problem was that the frosting smelled terrible. I have no idea what caused it, because it wasn't the smell of ingredients gone off, it was the smell of a mechanic's garage. Yuck. read more

On vacation in Wilmington and as a fan on deserts in general we decided to check out this place. I'm not going to be long winded like some comments on here. I just wanted to say this place had great service and excellent cupcakes. They gave us a tour of the different types and what was in each so we had a better idea of what we wanted. I give this business one star, simply because I can't post otherwise. The owner of Hot Pink Cake Stand is not a nice person at all!! After a friend of mine raved about this cupcake place, I decided to venture in with another friend of mine and give it a try. It was near the end of the business day, but I still expected to be treated like a customer and a human being while sampling a supposed delicious cupcake. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was that there was no one behind the counter. The owner of the shop was in conversation with some guy in the corner at a table discussing expansion and didn't even look up to greet us! I looked at the cupcakes for sale, and saw only two flavors! I then looked at the exorbitant prices and was flabbergasted at the idea that I was being asked to pay such a high price for such a small selection! They had other items for sale, such as teas and items that said "Hot Pink Cake Stand." But, these items were overpriced as well and I have no desire to purchase something geared solely for the purposes of promoting this substandard establishment. The owner did not even notice when we left. Some advice to the owner: Before you start thinking of expanding your store, how about attempting to improve your customer service and lowering your prices a little, as you and your business will be NOTHING without customers!!!!!! Overall recommendation, don't go here!! Don't even waste your time driving by it or glancing in its direction!! If you must have a cupcake, try Coastal Cupcakes. They are much nicer and have a larger selection than HPCS. read more

Not only are their cupcakes delicious but the store is beautiful! I also had the pleasure of working the 2012 wedding season with a very popular Wilmington caterer. I must say I have seen A LOT of their work up close and personal at weddings and on some occasions was able to try them. They have all been amazing to look at and even better tasting! Took my daughter and 3 of her friends here today for her 10th birthday. We just showed up and the girls sat at the counter and got to watch them make a cake and cupcakes. When you walk in you are hit with the smell of chocolate, or a mix of different flavors but not overpowering. There are several table one may sit at, or you can sit at the counter. There is also a case where you can view loose tea from a local tea company. The girls and I spent a few minutes opening up some of the little jars smelling them. Each girl got a small cupcake and then we bought 7 for the 7 of us. I had the mint cupcake. It was moist and the icing was a light green that tasted like the after dinner mints you get at Olive Garden. My wife had a red velvet one and by her expression it was really good. They also had a peanut butter one. One of my daughters friends had the bacon maple cupcake. I took a small taste and it was pretty good, surprisingly. Located just off of the main street, a block from the river, parking in limited and it is paid parking but it's a $1 for one hour. I'd love to go back and try a cake. read more

When I stepped inside of Hot Pink Cake Stand, I felt like I had walked into a bit of a war zone. There were only 2 visible workers but a long line of eager cupcake fans. This was only the 3rd of 4th week of it being open so I understand they were just getting into the swing of things, bless their hearts. Almost every cupcake they had listed on their chalk board was out for the day. I only got my 4th 5th and 6th choice of flavor, but once I bit into these moist, flavorful, sweet and savory and preciously decorated cupcakes I knew I would be happy with any flavor! The mint chocolate chip is out of this world. I cannot wait to try the peanut butter and pink lemonade ones. On their website they list the daily cupcake flavors and the specialties for each day of the week. So, thankfully, it seems as though they are getting organized and more into a consistent pattern with the baking. I do know, when I was there, the owner stated that they bake a certain amount at the beginning of the day and whenever they run out of whatever it it, they are completely out until close. Stopped in the Hot Pink Cake Stand saturday afternoon. Downtown very busy, cake stank not so much. One person working the counter making herself a fresh coffee acting as if she had 30 customes in the store. Store looks like it is under some type of construction, cupcakes in cake stands scatered around on the bar. No rhyme or reason to them. Ordered a regular cup of coffee and one cupcake($4.55). Cupcake was dry and coffee cold. Coffee was presented with a quart of half and half and told "put in how much you want". Sorry to say I will not return. read more

Since then I've tried to find a cupcake this good my hometown without any luck. Finally came back a few days ago on vacation and they special made the almond since I called the night before. I placed an order with them on July 31 for 6 dozen cupcakes - 2 dozen each of Banana Crème Brulee, Key Lime and Tiramisu for my daughter's wedding. Being a fellow baker I was expecting to see quality cupcakes when I arrived at the restaurant but I was shocked and dismayed at what I saw. Only the Banana cupcakes could barely pass as being standard cupcakes; the Key Lime were half the size of the Banana and the Tiramisu was more of a cupcake top, only 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch tall. I was horrified with these cupcakes and had no choice but to serve them since all of the wedding guests had arrived. Frankly I was embarrassed to serve them to my guests. I am well aware what a "regular" or "standard" cupcake should look like. And if cupcakes are scooped properly then there would never be the differences that we saw. I understand slight variances but when these were taken out of the wrappers it was obviously much more than a slight variance. The cupcakes were no higher than my finger. They were closer to mini cupcakes, about 2 child size bites and cost $3 each. If it wasn't my daughters wedding then I would have made them myself. As far as the taste of the cupcakes, the little bite of key lime was delicious but the others were terrible. Even the bride remarked that the tiramisu tasted dry and stale. Upon complaining to the owner she offered to give me another dozen of these horrible cupcakes or a very small amount of refund. I paid $250 for cupcakes that I was embarrassed to give my guests. Do not waste your money on these cupcakes, if you want quality cupcakes in Wilmington then go to Shuga Shack, the cupcakes are twice the size and 500% better flavor for basically the same price. read more
