Someone wanted a lobster roll today for lunch. So I put on my patience poncho--to survive the never-ending construction taking place along 151 in Mashpee--and made my way to Pink Door Catering and Market (800 Falmouth Rd--Route 28) in Mashpee. Formerly Chef Roland's, Pink Door Catering has full fresh meals for sale (many, though not all of which are located on their website), a deli counter with an assortment of sandwiches and salads, all made-to-order, and freezer with a variety of frozen soups (including chowder base) and desserts. Of course, they are also caterers and you can see everyone doing that work in their open kitchens and prep areas. "Cliff Notes" review for those who demand a single sentence: "Fresh ingredients, house-made breads, great variety, tasty fare at reasonable prices; great place to pick up sandwiches for a beach picnic)." For others, please continue reading. The lobster rolls at Pink Door Catering are huge, indeed, it's not in a small customary New England-style hot dog roll at all. The fresh lobster meat, mostly claw meat and knuckles, is mixed ever so slightly with some mayo and very small amount of finely chopped celery for a little crunch. What distinguishes this sandwich, aside from the abundance of lobster meat, is that the fresh house-made roll--think 8 inch sub roll--is absolutely delicious. It's $35, so it's not "cheap," but it's also not one of those hot dog buns barely filled with 4 ounces of lobster meat. So worth it when you really do have a craving for lobster. While I am a fan of their "Mashpee Lobster Rolls" I wanted to try something totally different so I ordered the "The Sicilian" and to really change things up I ordered it on a tomato and basil wrap. Wow, this was a truly delicious sandwich. Stuffed with freshly sliced mortadella and peppery arugula, what really made each and every bite memorable is that the wrap was also filled with freshly sliced mozzarella, topped with basil pesto and a tangy balsamic glaze. A fabulous combination of flavors and what impressed me is that even the last bite of the wrap contained a combination of all the ingredients (not always easy to achieve in a wrap or a sandwich). The wrap was 8 inches across, the same size as their bread rolls, and it was $12 (the prices for their wraps/sandwiches, save for the Mashpee Lobster Roll, range in price from $11 to $13). All sandwiches and wraps with a bag of our locally produced favorite chips. The Pink Door is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm (Saturday to 5 pm). A friendly stop to pick up a tasty sandwich for lunch or a delicious dinner to heat up at home. All their prepared meals come with instructions on how to properly heat them up and there are always items in the display case which are not listed as their standards on the Pink Door website. Chef Roland has been reinvented and is now known as Pink Door Catering. It is located in Summerfield Park on Falmouth Road in Mashpee. The owner and chef - brought up in the business - is Mark Lombardo, whose father owned the Lombardo function venues. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out! Three weeks ago we hosted a small wedding of an older couple. The food that we ordered could stand up to any of Boston's best restaurants. Since there were only 15 people, we got the prepared food in containers with perfect directions for reheating. The stuffed mushrooms, scallops and spinakopita were delicious. The main course : salmon, lasagna and chicken parm with pasta and marinara sauce: was five star. You can also take out small portions of pre-cooked food with no-brainer instructions for rehearing. Matt was the chef for my daughter's wedding and the food was so incredible, the guests went out of their way to tell us - AND to find the truck/kitchen at the back of the venue to see who (and how) such delicious food could possibly be happening. Chef Roland went over and above in helping us plan a small Outdoor Baby Shower for our daughter. We had a few dietary restrictions , gluten free, vegetarian, which he took care of with no problem. Chef Roland's catered a conference I went to, and the service and food was fantastic. Sometimes American is too sweet for my tastes, so there were dishes I didn't really like. We contracted Chef Roland for a backyard wedding reception based on some wonderful online reviews. I never know if I should believe online reviews but as the day approached and friends asked who was doing the catering, I found that he is well known for providing fantastic food at events all over the Cape. Those friends were not wrong. The flow of tasty appetizers was perfectly timed, the servers were able to describe all the offerings in detail so people who had dietary restrictions could eat what was appropriate, and each dish was better than the last. Incredible desserts followed the dinner and everyone rolled home, just a few pounds heavier than they were when they arrived. We've had many weddings among our social group over the past 5-6 years as all of our kids are in their early 30s. A couple of the attendees, who are rabid foodies, came up to me at the end of the event and said that they had never tasted such great food. I was also told by a number of people that I had set the bar high for future parties. Everyone left happy. If I ever have an event that needs catering again, Chef Roland is first on my list. Chef Roland orchestrated all the food for our Cape wedding in September of 2014 and people are still talking about what they ate!! If he has availability for your wedding, stop looking any further! Chef Roland catered my grandparents 50th anniversary party and it was amazing! He came up with great suggestions, listened to what we wanted and really came up with an awesome menu. He delivered everything to our house at the exact right time. He also gave us what he thought the right amount of food was, and we doubted him so we ordered a little bit more than he suggested. We should have listened to him. He's an expert and clearly knew the perfect amount of food. We had a lot of leftovers! I highly recommend his services! We used chef Roland catering for a back yard wedding - the endless appetizers were phenomenal. The dinner selection lemon chicken and sirloin beef and grilled vegetables were so good . My guest have told me this was the best food they have ever had And can't believe how much good was served . They also came out with lobster salad sandwiches and pulled pork . Then the desert was incredible so different and again my guest haven't stopped talking. About the food . The waitstaff and bar tender and bar back never stopped. Absolute highest recommendation!! The food is absolutely AMAZING and Chef Matt really knows his stuff. We hired Chef Roland's Catering to do our wedding catering. But this is not your average wedding catering company. This is wedding food your guests will be talking about for months after! (Our guests are still talking about it 5 months later! And we 100% agree.) We had so many questions during the planning process and Chef Matt was extremely patient and helpful in answering them, even taking a call when he was on vacation (sorry Matt!). He crafted an entirely gluten free menu for us which was incredible! The selection of appetizers was fabulous and we chose to do micro-desserts as well which were a huge hit. Thank you Chef Roland for making Mother's Day perfect for my mom! I had planned to cook for my family and friends for Mother's Day, but had been ill this past week, and when yesterday rolled around I knew I would not have the energy to put a decent meal on the table for everyone. I stopped in to Chef Roland's new place on Route 28 and shared my dilemma with him Saturday morning. He whipped up lasagna, meatballs and chicken marsala for me to pick up last minute. I served it to my friends and family today and everyone loved every bit of it! Thank you Roland for saving Mother's Day at my house. Incidentally, we are very happy to have you move to Mashpee, and love that you serve pick-up and to-go sandwiches, soups and dinners. Take a look at the freezer case w desserts, like 'Baked Alaska' and Bread Pudding. The cooler holds Chicken Pot Pie, Shepherds Pie, Moussaka, and several other dishes including 'just out of the oven' Quiche Which two of us just had, it was delicious, draped in melted cheese w a crispy buttery crust. There 's 1/2 a Quiche left for tomorrow. We also bought the Moussaka and a frozen Mushroom tarragon soup. Chef Roland catered our wedding a couple weeks ago at the Pelham House Resort. The minute we met Roland about a year prior to our wedding we knew he was going to be our caterer. The food was beyond perfect and we can't stop hearing from our guests how yummy each and every appetizer (there were about 15 or more different choices!), salad, entree (fish with lobster tail and scallops, beef tenderloin and a vegetarian quinoa dish) and the passed desserts (push pops, gelato bar, and many many more!!) was. Linda was onsite on our day to make sure everything went smoothly and we couldn't have asked for a more smooth day!! She even made sure the staff came down to the beach with drinks and apps during the cocktail hour while we were taking photos with our family and the wedding party. This review is catered (no pun intended) to our wedding this past summer, but I urge anyone in need of catering services to call Chef Roland! Roland, Pat, catering manager Linda, and their entire team offer the BEST quality and service for the price, and we are SO happy that we had them by our side throughout the planning process and our magical wedding weekend. I was prepared by other reviews to know that Roland operates much more casually than a standard caterer, and that was very helpful to know going into our conversations. He doesn't have a set menu, packages, or contract, but his work truly does speak for itself and I'm more than happy to add to their collection of outstanding testimonies. We were working within a tight budget and Pat was nothing short of amazing in her accommodations with us. From helping us run through our rental order with an outside rental company, to tweaking menus, to organizing workload between her staff and ourselves, we were able to create a menu and timeline that worked for everyone at a price that we could afford. And the FOOD! I knew it was delicious from our tasting, but I was not prepared for the number of people who told us during and after the wedding (and months later) that it was the best wedding food they'd ever had, some of them saying it was the best XYZ they'd ever had period! From our rehearsal dinner meal, to the variety and quantity of the hors d'oeuvres on our wedding day, the delicious salad and entrees, and the passed desserts were just hit after hit after hit. They also wrapped up our small wedding cake for us after cutting (after storing it at their home that morning- talk about above and beyond). We have used Chef Roland's Catering for several parties we have hosted so the first thing I did as I started wedding planning was inquire with Roland and team on their availability for September 2018. There was no way I was getting married in Falmouth without Roland. When a caterer sets your wedding date--- you know they are good! Our wedding was unique in the way that we transformed our backyard and dock area into a venue for 280 guests. With limited tables and seating, Roland had to be creative in what he served so that it could be easily consumed standing. He rose to the challenge serving 15+ different kinds of passed hors d'oeuvres, assorted salads, beef tenderloin with fingerling potatoes and an extremely unique "Cape Cod Paella" comprised of a huge variety of seafood. Like our other parties, our guests raved about Roland's incredible food: "the hors d'oeuvres kept coming--something different every time!" "the roasted vegetables were so good I almost forgot I was eating vegetables!" "I've never had anything like this paella--amazing!" "I ate 4 of the delicious ice cream sandwiches--I couldn't stop!" Just some of the comments from my guests. If you are OK with mediocre wedding food complete with 3-4 generic hors d'oeuvres and a simple main dish, Roland might not be for you. If exciting and unique dishes that will wow your guests are an important part of your wedding, then hire Roland--you will not be disappointed! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding. Chef Roland was the caterer at my sister's wedding 10 years ago. I am so glad that I decided to give him a call when I started planning. He is extremely popular so be sure to call him at least a year in advance, especially for the peak season. He gave me great advice on how to schedule the night to ensure a relaxing but structured event. His front of house manager Linda was very professional and understanding. She kept everything moving all night without a misstep--even when we had an unexpected vegetarian. They didn't just serve her a veggie dish as an afterthought- they served her this enormous grilled veggie tower that she raved about for hours. So, let's talk food! He had no less than 14 passed hot appetizers. From your standard; scallops wrapped in bacon and coconut shrimp to more eclectic items like lamb turn overs and braised arugula on crostini. My favorite by far was the goat cheese with pear on crostini! Two weeks later and I am still fielding calls and emails about the food! Then a wonderful creative salad, an intermezzo of lemon sorbet and for the main course- perfectly cooked tenderloin of beef with whipped sweet and white potatoes and sauteed seasonal veggies. Second to food is the value. You get all the appetizers, a three course meal, a desert bar with gelato and coffee and amazing service! All for a price that couldn't be beat by anyone- even those who offered cruddy food! The best is there are no tack on costs. No cutting the cake fee, no oops I forgot to mention we charge for this. None of that. He says up front what is covered and what you are responsible for. The final cost is dependent on the exact length of your reception but I over budgeted and underpaid. Much less stress! I'm trying to find as many places as I can to rave about Chef Roland! If you have any event and need it catered- big or small- call him! You will not be disappointed. read more
