The restaurant is located off the main street in Independence, OR. and is in an adorable pink house. The house itself is wonderfully old, the decor inside though is awful. The hostess was not friendly, just pointed us in the direction of our table, the waiters were friendly enough, didn't really check back once the food was served, and then there was a random woman floating around, maybe the manager? She was dressed in shorts and tennis shoes with a visor on, she was too casually dressed, it was strange. The food on the other hand was really good. We had the Garden burger, Pink house burger and the Greek chicken salad, all of which was very good. Meat flavorful, garden burger had sautéed veggies on it! Super good! The JoJo potatoes were YUM! THE BLACKBERRY COBBLER WAS DISGUSTING though!! And we will eat any dessert and we each took a bite and left it! Horrible. Tasted like burnt prunes!! And the ice cream was old. Worst dessert ever! So all in all, I may go back to try the breakfast, but even though the dinner was good I don't know if it was good enough to go back. Prices were decent. read more

We've been going for years, but it seems to be encountering problems lately. Today, our table was missing utensils, coffee refills slow, and one of the orders was missing its side. The grilled cod was good, but it's not made correctly. They took breaded cod and grilled it; I don't think that's what is expected when you ordered grilled fish--not what I expected anywhere. Last year, or so, I warned them of a safety hazard on the top of stairs. A child could easily fall; it's still unrepaired. I don't quite understand this place's Issues, but it is a pleasant environment in which to sit and talk. read more

Decided to have breakfast here while on vacation. I had the bacon, cheddar frittata. And a chai. My boyfriend has biscuits and gravy. Both were decent. Lacked flavor a little. The homemade biscuit was really good! My chai tasted like milk. It was not the best food I've ever had! Portions were large though. We have gone here for years, and it is unfortunate (and sad) that I have to post a less positive review of this once excellent restaurant. We did not know that the restaurant had been sold to new owners, and found that out tonight, which explains a lot. We noticed something different was going on with the restaurant, and now we know why. The Pink House was one of the few restaurants I really enjoyed for a combination of reasons. First, and most important, was the atmosphere which was directly influenced by the previous owner who was attentive and present in the dining room, knew his customers by name, and was enthusiastic and warm. In addition, the food quality (including display) was high for a restaurant in this price category. The chef used top quality ingredients and put forth meals that were tasty and visually appealing. Last, there was a professionalism and high standard to the running of the restaurant. The wait staff was experienced as was everyone else associated with the restaurant. Unfortunately, none of the assets or appeal of the original restaurant has transferred to the new ownership. Our dinner tonight lacked quality, quantity (not the hallmark of a good restaurant, but it was less than before), plus the prices have gone up. Couple that with a less experienced staff (servers and cook), lack of professionalism in dining room, and you have what we considered to be a disappointing evening. The restaurant was far less busy than we would have expected for a Saturday night, and given what we experienced, it is clear why. It pains me to say that we will not be returning to the Pink House again. read more

If I were pressed to make a complaint, at all, it would be the limited/cramped quarters. But it's nothing I'd levy against them, personally. I sat upstairs, too. This little place keeps getting better with each visit. My mom lives down in Monmouth, and when we go down to visit her, she always wants to take us out to eat. The Monmouth/Independence area is pretty limited when it comes to good eats, but the Pink House is at the top of our list! It's a quaint little old house that's been nicely restored, the environment is casual and homey, and the staff is very nice. The menu is a bit limited, but I'd rather have a place do a few menu items and do them very well verses have a huge menu and have it be mediocre food. The menu is nicely diversified, and the staff was very flexible when requesting minor changes or substitutions to any particular dish. Plus, the food is just flat out good... excellent soups and salads, as well as delicious main entrées. The portion size is generous, too! On top of the Pink House being a great little place to get a meal, their deserts are fantastic... namely, their out-of-this-world cream cheese swirl brownie!!! Ooooh mama!!! It is FANTASTIC!! It's big, warm, and topped with a soup of vanilla ice cream. I'm not one to get excited about desert, but this brownie cinches the Pink House Cafe's five star rating!! read more

The service is friendly, and at times a little slow. However, Independence is a small town, so what's your hurry? Breakfast is amazing, the food is local, and it's a great place to take guests. They do take dinner reservations, and I recommend them for larger groups because they sometimes have to push tables together. Save room for dessert, and be prepared to share! read more

This place checks all the boxes. It honestly feels like your at your grandmother's old fancy house eating her cooking. Super nice customer service, incredible environment that just feels soooo refreshing, a great menu with very different choices yet the menu is short and tight (everything I've tried is so unique and delicious). This place is my #1 go to when im in town. I stumbled upon I one day while I was working across the street and am continuously blown away. I took my coworkers here the last time I was in and totally got them hooked. Bought them the special Prime Rib Sammy with apple studets and we nearly had to nap before leaving hahaha. Stuffed to the max with the amount of good food we had. I've been here 5 times now and had something different every time with not an ounce of regret. The breakfasts are spot on by the way. So good. The curry chicken salad sandwich is like nothing I've ever tasted but wished I had earlier. The desserts ate all unbelievable. I usually do the flan but I dare you to find a flaw in anything. Our waitress was a bit on the gruff side...didn't really fit this place. i ordered their veggie burger was was 5 stars all the way. it was presented amazing! it was literally melt in your mouth good! the other three in my party all liked their food as well. we were happy they were open past 2pm on Sunday, as most smaller restaurants close early on Sundays. We were the only patrons in the building at 3pm on a Sunday. located inside a converted house...and the decor...is......homey. i did knock a start off because the interior should match their innovative food. read more

This is a place that I'd heard so many outstanding things about. I was so excited to finally go, but was a bit disappointed. I made a reservation for brunch with my family and still had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated. Service was not great. I don't know if they were still training, but the servers that helped us were all very scattered and awkward and less than friendly. The food was good and we all enjoyed our meals. Overall, I'd give it another shot, maybe we went on an off day, because I'd like to experience all the good things I've heard about this place. read more

I have lived in Monmouth for almost 7 years and have heard nothing but good things about the Pink House Cafe. My mom and I were hungry after a busy day out and about today, and I suggested the Pink House for dinner since neither of us had ever been, and we had heard nothing but great things! Well, unfortunately, the front porch was the only decent thing about the Pink House. When we walked in, we instantly were overwhelmed with the smell of urine-I mean OVERWHELMED by the smell of urine. A kind, older woman greeted us and sat us down. Three flies were flying around our table and she said, "Oh they are your welcome wagon!" My mom and I just stared at each other and sat down. We looked at the menu, which was extremely overpriced, and as the older woman walked away, we decided to leave. I was gagging from the urine smell and we apologized to the woman, and told her we would be dining elsewhere this evening. We ended up eating at a better restaurant in town, with no urine smell, and affordable prices! My advice: STAY FAR, FAR AWAY, unless you like the "low-rate nursing home smell" of urine and ammonia as you dine. read more

The atmosphere is lacking. The old house creaks and if you have a large party good luck finding seating because there is none. Reason NOT To Go: The menu sucks. Wouldn't go there for the food. An adorable pink old house - the owner standing to greet you and guaranteeing there would be no bees on the patio (there weren't), soft breezes and very friendly staff. The menu is somewhat limited and I wasn't sure about the Korean short-ribs - but man oh man - it was delicious - and so was the Mt. Angel sausage. Haven't tried the desserts yet but I've been promised they're delicious and all cooked on premises except the cheesecake which is baked locally. Don't go there if you're in a hurry though.
