The owner of Merry Poppins, based in Rome Twp in Ashtabula county, is John DeSalvo, who does fairly good work at times but is certainly not very reliable and sometimes doesn't show up when scheduled. He is also not true to his word so be extra skeptical of his estimates. We paid him over $2000 to completely cover our brick chimney in stucco (cement). The color was good and they took about 3 days to nearly complete the job. I said nearly because, when he said they were done, the top corners looked as if a first-grader had done it and was not smoothed out very well. The color was also pretty variable due to all the different batches of cement mixed with the color added, and the pattern of the wire mesh attached to the brick is visible in areas where the stucco should have been thicker. We made the dire mistake of paying him the remaining fee when he left that day, even though he guaranteed us that he would be back to completely seal the new stucco. That was July 30, 2021, and before he left, he promised us that he would be back the next Tuesday, Aug 3...but never showed up. And today is Dec 21, 2021...Need I say more? And we have texted him hundreds of times and left messages. A few times he replied and said they would be out, but never came. We wanted to ask him about the poor look of the stucco as well as the sealing, but apparently, we are totally out of luck. Overall, buyer/customer BEWARE of Merry Poppins Chimney & Masonry Service and especially LOOK OUT for MR. JOHN DESALVO who's honesty and ethics are lacking...to put it nicely.
