When visiting family in Milwaukee, you MUST make a stop to stock up on this craft brew. The New Glarus Brewing Company was founded by Deborah Carey as a gift for her husband, Daniel. Before starting the New Glarus Brewing Company, Dan Carey was an experienced diploma master brewer. Today the company brews a variety of beers, with its Spotted Cow label leading in sales. New Glarus brewing employs about 90 people today. The brewery made the choice to pull out of Illinois sales effective 2003 leading to the sale of New Glarus beer 'Only In Wisconsin' for all time. So enough about the beer now on to Piggly Wiggly. First off, that name is amazing. I've heard of the chain before and know that it's quite reputable. On our drive from Milwaukee to St. Louis, this particular Piggly Wiggly is the PERFECT stop for a beer pickup. The alcohol selection at Piggly Wiggly is amazing! There were so many amazing craft beer selections, all of which were Wisconsin based! The Piggly Wiggly had every selection available from New Glarus. From Spotted Cow to Moon Man, we had so many options. There were also so many other brewery options. We got beers from Point brewery and also from MKE Brewery and Great Dane. Loved their focus on local. As for the actual grocery portion of this store, I can't comment too much. We walked around briefly and it was... a store! We did want to buy some pretzels for our journey, but there were only two lines open and they were packed. Would have loved to have seen more lanes open to get patrons through quicker. The ribs were meaty fall clean off the bone with a nice texture, not the super soft steamed meat texture but not the little chew texture that I like. The meat was moist and tender but not very smokey and the bark didn't scream anything flavorful to me either so this is a mild bbq that in my opinion needs sauce which I got on the side so I could properly evaluate the bbq. The sides were average which is not a bad thing because they were not terrible. The Mac and cheese was not cooked to total mush with a thick creamy cheese sauce with a small mild cheese flavor. The jambalaya was once again just average and not terrible either with tomato's, chicken and sausage. The corn bread was very good because it was very fresh and moist with that soft creamy texture, not the saw dust kind that chokes you. Overall it's just average bbq and not bad with everything being consistent, it's not the worst or the best bbq that I have had.
