A fellow Yelper mentioned they have moved to Mercat de Sant Antoni and found out it has been 2 years. As the kind gentleman mentioned, La Boqueria was just too busy and this smaller market had a better pace for Pinotxo. They have a counter with 10 bar stools and open kitchen format with food displayed at the counter. I can see seating becoming a premium as the day progresses. I arrived shortly after they opened and already there were 3 customers ordering Cafe Con Leches and Xuxos. I did the same with my Xuxo to go. I saw they had Octopus Galician style and despite the am hour couldn't resist. Pinotxo's version was very good-that said, I've had more tender Octopus. Definitely a Tapa size and pricey for the portion but gave me my fix for one of my favorite dishes before leaving Barcelona. I saw Tripe and Beef cheeks on the menu and asked one of the servers which one? She gave me a look of "I can't decide"meaning can't go wrong with either. Ordered the Beef cheeks as I've never had it. Rich, decadent and definitely not a breakfast meal-I liked it! I was told the white cubes were collagen and not fat. Definitely a dish to try. Cafe Con Leche was excellent! The Xuxo (one of Jose Andres's favorites) was amazing! Like a donut, a little bit of flakiness of a croissant and filled with this rich, delicious Crema and as if that wasn't enough coated with sugar. We loved it! One of those delicacies that sells out early. Service was engaged and friendly from all of the people behind the counter. Very popular spot inside La Boqueria. There are only 14 seats for this place, so be ready to wait. I'd recommend coming here for breakfast. Their Xuxo (deep fried, sugar-coated pastry filled with creme) is amazing. This pastry's so popular that they're sold out by 11 am everyday. Their tapas are nothing special in my opinion. I ordered 3 tapas based on their recommendations (Spanish omelette, venison skewer, garbanzo beans). They're all pretty enjoyable but there're definitely better tapas in Barcelona. Mercat De La Boqueria is one of Barcelona's foremost tourist attractions. It's a public market where you can get all kinds of items or you can grab a bite. A bite at Pinotxo Bar. Not quite a bar as many would think - it's a food stand with counter seating and a few standalone tables. Meaning, probably not a place you'd want to bring a big party. Seating is first come, first served and you may have to stalk diners finishing up so you can swoop in on the seats before you lose your chance to sit and enjoy some tapas. My friend and I shared four dishes (see pics) and I have to say I enjoyed them all with the exception of the octopus dish. Not because of the flavors - but because it was overcooked. Mushy in the middle. I don't know if it was an oversight or if the dish is intentionally served that way but I prefer a more chewy consistency. Service was excellent. The chef, also happened to be the primary person helping us, though the rest of the team also jumped in with cleaning off empty plates, serving and closing out the tab. Another tapas bar located in the La Boqueria market we saw one of the pastries that we wanted to try. So we just order it for take way. Our reciept said xuoxi not sure if that's the name of it or just a generic name for a pastry but it was so delicious. The outer crust was so flaky and light like a malasada and filled with a custard cream. I highly recommend this pastry can't say if they are all like this If you find one at a different pastry shop. Whenever I visit Barcelona, I always make sure I eat at Pinotxo Bar! This trip I introduced my hubby and he loved it so much we came back the next day with my brothers. **December 2022: Friday Morning Visit** This restaurant was recommended by some youtubers and they specifically said to try the baby squid with beans, which isn't something you usually thnk to eat first thing in the morning so I wanted to see what it was all about. My friend and I got to Mercat De La Boqueria bright and early in the morning and even though many shops were still getting ready this counter-space only restaurant was pumpin' with eaters so I figured it must have been a hit! Finding a seat was a challenge, but after 8-10 minutes a couple left and my friend and I grabbed their seats. Initially we were going to just try the baby squid and beans, but my friend and I decided to add a few more including scallops, baby lobster, and octopus. It was pretty cool to see our server also prepare the meal in front of our eyes and within a short time we were given the creation. Aside from the scallops which were delicious (plump, and not too chewy), everything else just was not my taste. The baby squid was soft and mushy (and I couldn't finish my portion), the baby lobster tasted bland, and the octopus was creamy (but not in a good way - also another item I did not finish). I love eating seafood, but the execution on these dishes didn't impress me. I would not come again but to each his own! read more

You must make this mandatory visit to Pinotxo Bar. Come here and try the garbanzo beans and sardines, and if you don't like sardines try theirs! They open at 7am ( pretty early for the market) but not all items will b available. We came here a total of 3 times on our trip to Barcelona because we could not get enough. We tried this spot out by accident and it became our favorite! Upon visiting this bar we found that this place has been around and is a staple of the Boqueria market. The Mercado on las ramblas is one of the most iconic places to check out in Barcelona. We stopped at Pinotxo bar for tapas, our wait was about 20 minutes for a few seats at the bar. Ambiance was fun since it's a very active market. I really wanted this place to be a lot better but once I saw they were microwaving food to warm it up I knew it wasn't going to be amazing. The food was average, we tried a few of their popular dishes but it wasn't my favorite tapas of the trip. You're in barcelona, walking to this amazing food stall area, and are wondering whether or not this place right up front is actually good or if it's a gimmick. Fortunately, you look it up on yelp and see this place is THE place to go. It was definitely our favorite in Barcelona. It's unassuming. A small stall with bar seating around the counter. A menu that hangs up top and is hard to see (and is only in spanish). But then you're greeted by a friendly team (family?) and feel at ease. You can see their fresh seafood all around the counter and also see them cooking behind on the grill. Everything they do is with finesse and is simple, yet overly flavorful. What we got: - Grilled red shrimp: Beautifully dressed, super fresh, light sweetness to the shrimp. Delicious. Right amount of olive oil/rock salt - Fresh lobster: You can see the lobster still moving in the case on the counter. They grill it right in front of you and it is absolutely amazing. Pricier at 25e, but well worth it - Fresh grilled prawn: Smaller than a lobster, bigger than a red shrimp. Another big winner that was nicely seasoned and tasted fresh - Codfish salad: This didn't look like much but everything they did, from the presentation to the mixture of flavors was absolutely delicious - Chick peas with meat: I couldn't imagine ordering the chickpeas. But then you realize every. single. table. orders the chick peas and you have to try it. We ate that thing so quickly, as it was super delicious and something they are known for - Squid with beans: Another result of sitting at the bar and seeing other people order it. I wandered into the market on one of my very first mornings of full exploration in Barcelona and told myself I'd pick up a few bites to eat here and there, really having not done any research of the stalls and highlights here. I'd already had a flat white and a fresh orange juice ;) I asked for some seafood suggestions and opted for the octopus salad and grilled shrimp. Perfect place to stop by in the market to enjoy a bite, just a bit on the saltier side sometimes when they sprinkle salt on their dishes. Our family came here two times because we really enjoyed this cool brunch spot close to our hotel in La Boqueria market. The main dish that stood out to me was definitely their xuixo, which is a fried croissant like pastry but filled with a custard filling, and with sugar sprinkled on top. A bit sweet but super tasty! I don't regularly drink coffee but this would have been perfect to rinse down with coffee to balance out the sweetness. We also tried their omelets, in which they have different variations depending on their ingredients and what they have left available. The ones we had were combos like potatoes + bell pepper or onions and eggplant, but ask one of the friendly staff what kind of omelets are available and they will let you know. The tomato bread is also a must to go along with the omelet. Not too much to say here, just as good as you'd expect out of this classic Barcelona staple. We tried the whole fish as well, which tasted incredibly fresh. Wait, what, I never reviewed Pinotxo Bar and Juanito, the legend!? Wow, my b. But hey better late than never. This place is legit one of our favorite eating experiences in Barcelona/all of Spain. It's right in the Boqueria Market and is still a local gem somehow. Juanito runs the place, and you can find him there everyday making your cafe con leche, serving you the legendary garbanzos (a must have!) and whatever else is fresh that day, pouring your wine (or just handing you the bottle and letting you do your thing), and chatting it up. If you don't get the chance to be served by Juanito himself, no worries, the rest of the team will take care of you. The best part is they only serve what's in season and what's fresh that day. The first time we went, we had the most amazing gambas a la plancha. Then the next time, we asked for the same thing, but they said the fishermen weren't able to bring any in that day and suggested a few other alternatives. Which of course were fire. On our recent trip, we had breakfast there first thing in the morning. The place was busy with locals grabbing breakfast before shopping. My friend wanted to come here to try the xuixo, which is a Catalonian pastry. It is similar to a croissant, but deep fried and coated with sugar on the outside. The filling is a delicious custard, crema catalana. We came in the afternoon and luckily got the last xuixo of the day. I imagine it would be even tastier if it was fresh and warmed up. It is counter seating around the bar and you grab your own seats. They don't have many seats, so it isn't really a good spot for big groups. We asked for a menu and the waiter proclaimed that he was the menu. He listed off all the dishes they had and they are all basically in the cases in front of you on the counter. We ordered the chickpeas too, as it seemed to be their signature dish. The chickpeas were delightful and mixed with blood sausage. This is another popular restaurant located in La Boqueria. Pinotxo seems to be most popular for the seafood, as they had it presented on the glass counters where we sat. We took a while to decide, which might have annoyed the staff a little, because our interactions didn't seem to be the most friendliest. We were quite full from our recent meal at El Quim, so we decided to just get two of the recommended items from here: the garbanzo beans and xuixo (Spanish pastry). The garbanzo beans were delicious, but we definitely couldn't fully enjoy it because we were so full. The xuixo, however, is definitely a must-get. The inside of the pastry is filled with custard and it was absolutely delicious. I would probably come back just for this! I am here to tell you that it is definitely worthy of the praise so don't call me Pinocchio or (Pinoxtco), but the wife and I loved Pinotxo Bar, vale! We especially loved the charm of its eclectic owner, Juanito Bayen. Dressed like a real-life Gepetto and assisted by his family that works the 14-stool famous bar that is only open from the early morning to 4 PM, be sure to take a photo of him so that he will give you his signature two-handed thumbs up. The food is all things Catalonia. The escargot was amazing. The baby squid with beans in a balsamic sauce known as chipirónes con mongetes was really tasty. And the suggested garbanzo means aka chickpeas were really flavorful. On top of that, this is one of the few tapas bars in the entire ciutat that serves a house cerveza that isn't the typical Spanish beer of Estrella or Cruzcampo. The house cerveza happens to be the Czech beer Pilsner Urquell, which pairs well with everything la familia serves up. If you come here expecting typical Spanish tapas, you may be disappointed. But if you come to try some real home-cooked-style Catalan food, make a beeline for the Pinotxo Bar and hover behind the occupied stools. This was the most disappointing meal I had in a week in Barcelona. I truly don't understand the high ratings. I'd give it one star for so-so quality, poor value, and uncomfortable seating, and throw in another star for lack of gastro-intestinal distress afterward and location - it's easy to find just to the right of the Boqueria entrance. One of my all time favorite Yelp reviews was a one star that said "I get sick every time I eat here." This place was much better on that minimal standard. So unless I find myself making a "call to Ralph on the big white phone" or looking up the nearest ER, two stars is about as low as I go. The market itself is more oriented for people buying ingredients and is huge with a wide selection. There aren't many sit-down lunch choices. Maybe because the Boqueria closes in the afternoon and there are so many other places on the Rambla. I had to wait a while for an uncomfortable metal barstool. I ordered items based on Yelp mentions: - Squid with beans. Allegedly a signature item. Very disappointing, gritty and bland. - Chick peas. OK, but nothing special. - Razor clams. They were out of these and suggested another variety, which turned out to be a small portion of clams the size of a US nickel (see photo) that cost 13 euros! I did violate the rule of "always ask the price for the special", but caveat emptor. No starters, bread or olives were offered. The bill came to almost 30 euros, more than I spent for a great lunch another day at an elegant Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant not too far away. The market itself is interesting and impressive. The tapas in La Boquería are definitely pretty good, but still not really as good as the ones at Can Paixano. It was still up there in quality, especially the white beans and squid and the chickpeas. While a bit oily, it was pretty flavorful and filling. Minus one star for ripping us off on seafood, as the price definitely is more than 5x more than what other places usually charge, but it wasn't too much damage and the other tapas made up for it. My daughter in law came up with the idea of hitting it up for breakfast. Atmosphere - Located within the Mercado de La Boqueria, one of the few restaurants located within in one of the many small vendor stalls. A classic American dinner interior, is the best way to describe it. We found some space on the end of the counter top to enjoy our breakfast. Food Drinks - Coffee, black. Breakfast - A little of everything today. There was no menu for us, there is chalk board but it was difficult to read from our spot. Our waiter showed us some of the things the where cooking. We went with his recommendation. Their omelets are more like pic, and they serve them by the slice. For the group we started with a large mushroom omelet. Perhaps two inches thick, almost quiche like. I think I could have finished off that whole pie. We also had a chick pea meal that was amazing, I never did catch the name. We also had some sausages that were cooked on the flat top, excellent source of protein for these very busy tourist. Service - Our waiter was spot on. We loved this so much we came twice on our weeklong trip to Barcelona. First visit, we got their famous xuxu, even more famous chickpeas, and the beef stew. Came this morning for breakfast had a very tasty portion of potato omelette which came with a piece of baguette with tomato and olive oil and a Coca Cola. The owner was pretty nice and price was only six euros. read more

Holy cow, what a great spot! Our waiter and the entire staff were all great! Saved a counter space for me and my DD and gave me a beer and tapa while I was waiting. Great food and beverages for a refreshing lunch after a long morning of Parc Güell. Their use of flaky salt is perfect. The flakes melt on the tongue in happy explosion. This place was the first establishment in Barcelona that I knew I absolutely had to visit after watching F*ck That's Delicious with Action Bronson (highly recommend by the way). Super small pinotxo stand ran by the cutest family. My hostel roommate and I split orders of fresh grilled prawns, chickpeas, and baby squid with white beans, listed in descending order of mouthwatering deliciousness. The grilled prawns, which I hope were local, were drizzled with gorgeous flake sea salt and high quality olive oil. I've never had such easy peeling and sweet shrimp in my life... The chickpeas were also really good, tossed with olive oil, raisins and pine nuts. The baby squid was was I initially saw online and knew I had to try it. I definitely recommend giving it a mix before diving in, to equally distribute the balsamic reduction that was sprinkled on top. Three dishes between two girls was plenty sufficient and got us full enough to lament getting out of our stools. The bar offers wine if you'd like to pair it with your food, which I didn't do but I'd definitely try if I ever go back. read more
