For our first meal in Rome, we wanted something quick for lunch, so why not start out the trip with a little authentic Italian pizza. Pinsere was a semi hole in the wall pizza joint a short walk from our hotel. This place was a bit intimidating because of how chaotic it was. Their menu was massive...just so many different combinations of pizzas to choose from. While we were trying to figure out what we liked, what was a must-get item, etc., you had the added pressure of the guys working there trying to keep everyone moving. They were trying to be helpful but they talked so fast and I think we just agreed to the guy's first two suggestions haha. On top of that, there were no tables, just a ledge along the outside to stand in front of. Like I said, I blanked out when I got up to order, and we ended up getting a bacon/smoked gouda/pumpkin pizza and a mortadella/ricotta/pistachi pizza. I came to my senses at the end and tossed in a cacio e pepe arancini ball as well haha. The guy just kept saying you like this? It's very good. And I was like uhhh, sure why not. Total cost for 2 pizzas, a rice ball, and 2 bottles of water was $16, which wasn't terrible. The taste of the pizza was interesting. I've never had pumpkin on a pizza before, but it was a very subtle flavor. The other pizza was closer to a traditional meat and red sauce pizza, except with a drizzle of crushed pistachio sauce on top, which again wasn't too overpowering in flavor. The crust was perfect. It was crispy and bubbly, but not too dense and filing. My favorite item was actually the rice ball. It was crispy on the outside, steaming hot in the middle, and was just so cheesy. This was definitely a popular spot because there was a steady flow of people the entire time we were there, even after 2PM. Overall, I'd say Pinsere is a pretty solid stop for pizza, especially for to-go orders or a really quick bite on the run. read more

We hopped on a short bus ride with rolling suitcases and all to find this place. It was crazy packed with people and everyone outside had a little gold tray of pizza. A stayed with the luggage as I braved the overflowing crowd. As the crowd slowly parted left and right, the display of amazing personal pizzas I think literally sang to me. Suddenly I was overcome with ordering anxiety. What was I supposed to get again? What if I get the wrong thing? OK. I'll tell you now. I don't think there is such a thing as ordering wrong here. In a jumble, I pointed to three random pizzas, paid, and slunched back into the crowd to await my warmed 'zas. The staff was super nice and knew quite a bit of English, but there is definitely a lot of pointing and confusion at times as to who's order was up. It all worked out and we ended up with a box full of goodness. A and I used our suitcases as seats further down the street and dove in. We ended up with a prosciutto (or a darker cured ham) & fig, squash blossom & zucchini & anchovies, sun dried tomato & goat cheese & proscuitto. They were all so different and all displayed the perfect balance of creamy cheese, salt, and sweetness. We gobbled it all up. Definitely the best pizza of the trip. It's thrown quickly into a hot oven, just enough to melt and blend all the flavors together. Then take it to go or lean on a counter and enjoy it right there. Dear New York, Rome sees your neighborhood pizza slice place and raises you an artisanal individual pizza. The key to Pinsere is that the crust has been precooked, then sauce and toppings added in a beautiful arrangement and put on display. All that is left to do is just a few minutes in the oven and it's ready to go. The thinly sliced meat isn't in the oven long enough to get tough. The cheese gets perfectly melted quickly and the crust gets just a little more browned and crispy. After having a few doughier pizzas, we welcomed this more crispy crust as a great change of pace. Pumpkin, Pancetta, and Smoked Provolone - The owner bragged about this award winning pizza. He only had one left for the evening....it was meant to be for us to try that pizza. The pumpkin cream sauce that lightly layered the crust wasn't overly sweet and paired perfectly with the pancetta and lightly smokey provolone slices. Yes it's worthy of an award. 5 stars Speck and Buffalo Mozzarella - speck is sometimes confused with prosciutto. Speck is actually cured smoked pork belly. It totally lends itself well to being heated up on a pizza without drying out. It was sliced razor thin. The base of this pizza was a tasty traditional red sauce with dollops of buffalo mozzarella that melted nicely. 5 stars Ciauscolo and Stracchino - looking at one of the uncooked pizzas I was a little nervous as I thought it had raw ground sausage on top. Usually a flash fired pizza like this would have precooked sausage. But you have to trust this man, these are well thought out pizzas from beginning to end. Using Ciauscolo is genius. It is more like a soft pork based salami that is spread on bread like a pate, but it is already smoked and ready to eat before going in the oven. There is a world of cured meats that in the United States we rarely get to explore and they are delicious. Same goes for cheese and rather than just mozzarella, this pizza had Stracchino, which is similar but a little more creamy. You don't see if very often in the US because it needs to be eaten very fresh, within a few weeks, thus doesn't travel well to be sold on a large scale. Again a red sauce was the base of this pie, but it should be noted that the sauce on all of these pies were a very thin layer to just flavor the crust rather than be its own topping. After baking, a little bit of pesto was drizzled on top completing this tasty masterpiece. 5 stars. It was hard to tell which pizza I liked best, each was outstanding. We got these to go and ate them back at our apartment on our last night in Rome while we were packing. I wish I would have tried this place sooner, it was definitely worthy of several stops for a quick bite. Make sure you do. read more

We stopped here based on Yelp reviews and there were so many folks in and outside this tiny little place we almost kept walking but since we weathered the elements from the Termini station we had to try. I got the tomato pesto, It was good but it was kind of bland (it was missing basil or something). THe broccoli slice was better. It was visually very appealing but honestly It looked better than it tasted. After we paid the casher came to find us bc she over charged us by 1/2 a euro (is that 50 cents?? idk anymore, Anyway, they also gave us a taste of a potato pizza, also better than the tomato pesto one. This pizza place is great and cheap. 5 euros for a full pizza. That said, the full pizza size is pretty small and many people can eat two of them if they come in with an empty stomach. I went there twice in a day, once at 11am and once at 530pm. There was no one there besides me at 11am but I was charged 50 cents just for eating in store. But I wasn't charged for eating in at 530pm when there were a few other people there. I think the guy who served me in the morning thought I was a rich tourist lol. The pizzas tasted great but were really greasy. So definitely not for you if you prefer the less oily ones. The best pizza in Rome -- no exggeration. The owner makes the pizza shop the most welcoming and hospitable restaurant in Rome. His catch phrase for english speakers is "Tell me!" and it was funny watching him greet new people coming in. While I was waiting for the pizza he told me that the place has been open for around 8 years now and they sell ~500 pizzas a day. I ordered two pizzas and I would say one is perfect for a single person, but I was feeling extra hungry that day (and I wanted to try as many pizzas as possible). I ordered a ham and mozarella pizza as well as their award winning bacon, smoked cheeze, and pumpkin pizza! The pizza's texture was perfect -- the bottom was crispy while the top and middle were still moist. The flavors of the pizza were also delicious and balanced. Each pizza was 5-6 euros which was absolutely a steal in Rome. I can't recommend these pizzas enough. I asked him what he thought about all the pizza shops in Rome and he said there's too much generic pizza. They tend to be too thin and dry, which I agreed with based on my experience. Best. Pizza. Ever. Okay, it's not technically pizza, it's pinsa. But no matter what you wanna call it, this is one of the best places to get dough+cheese+meat anywhere in Rome, and even the world. I came a little later in the day my first time and the famous pumpkin cream proscuitto pizza was sold out, and so I randomly pointed to two kinds. It ended up being an artichoke/sausage and a chili/onion. The chili/onion was DELICIOUS, and was something that sparked my tastebuds after not finding much spicy food in Rome. Although I don't like artichoke, the pizza was also good as well. The second day, we came in earlier and got the pumpkin cream proscuitto pizza and one with proscuitto and mushrooms. OMG I see what the hype was about, the pumpkin cream added a creamy richness to it, and was almost salty rather than sweet. I could eat one by myself if my parents weren't stealing slices from me. The best pizza I've had in my life. My friend and I tried this place at the recommendation of our hostel host, and it did not disappoint! The small shop was filled with locals trying to grab a late lunch, but the line moved quickly. They have fresh unfired pizzas on display, and they fire it for you once you choose it. Since my friend and I couldn't speak Italian, we couldn't figure out if we could custom order, but the pre-selected ingredients were perfect anyways. I got the bufala and my friend got the porchetta, and both were amazing and devoured in seconds. We then decided to walk back to try the margherita, which I actually liked the best. THIS IS THE BEST PIZZA. I was in Rome for a week and we ate pizza every day for lunch, and pasta every day for dinner, because #YOLO. This was the best pizza we had. I scoured all of the Yelp reviews and blog posts on "Best Pizza in Rome" and "Where Locals Get Their Pizza" and consulted sites like Katie Parla's Rome (highly recommended). Everyone mentioned Pinsere, and so we walked over after our Borghese Gallery visit. It's a tiny place and there's no seats, but don't let that deter you for a second. The staff are friendly and helpful, speak English, and let me take copious amounts of photos of their pizza. Here's the way it works: 1) Walk in and gape at the beautiful array of pizzas in front of you, in the glass case. 2) Hopefully you're there with a big group, so you can get a bunch of different kinds. We ordered 6 pizzas for 6 people and it was plenty - the pizzas are personal-sized. 3) Tell the staff which pizzas you like. My wife and I agree that this was the best Pizza place we had this side of the Tiber River (Pizzarium being the best near the Vatican). The prices are reasonable, they speak English well, the flavors are spot on and they work with the speed of excellence! This area is where we noticed more locals and the patrons just kept coming and going so there's continual churning of new and fresh pizzas. I really enjoyed the margherita pizza with its fresh grape tomatoes and crispy thin crusts. Absolutely the best pizza I had during my time in Italy and quite possible the best pizza I have ever had. Fast, fresh ingredients and affordable (oh Europe why are you so expensive?). When we dropped by yesterday for lunch there were about 8 varieties to choose from, with more coming out. The service was fantastic, especially for a "fast food" atmosphere. They were all so delicious -- I probably could have eaten another 2 pies by myself. The crust was thin, airy and crispy. And all the toppings were very fresh and plentiful. You really can't go wrong with any of the pies - just choose what looks appetizing to you. Definitely go by Pinsere for at least 1 of your meals in Rome. Excellent pizza place. Went here a couple times (actually 3 times but we didn't know it was closed on the weekends). Actually, what they sell is apparently not technically a pizza. I read on someones web site that its actually something called a pinsa - which is a oblong flatbread. They insist it doesn't have much in common with pizza. the dough is a mix of 4 different organic and GMO free flours and extra virgin olive oil and its left to rise for 2-3 days. Pizzas are freshly made and wide selection. They are cooked in the oven to order so you have to wait a few minutes. The toppings change seasonally and you get all sorts of different combinations. The people there speak English so no problem with ordering. First time I just picked what looked the nicest (which was a potato based pizza - was a bit interesting as it had no tomato so kind of tasted more like a hashbrown - a bit). The 2nd time I went for a spicy salami one. One suggestion is to ask what there favourite is - its bound to be good! The pizzas themselves are a fairly deep base - certainly not what you would call thin crust. Its all pretty cheap with the pizzas all for about €4. Its a popular place which seems to be mostly tourists when we were there. No doubt helped by being ranked no.2 of all restaurants in Rome on another review web site - which shall not be named! We were lucky that it was pretty close to our hotel! Recommended place to go, great food, good service.
