So it started out with my friend ordering pizza. But he realized I can't have gluten and so he said, I'm going to get you the best thai food from my favourite place. He ran in to pick it up, as we temporarily parked semi-illegally to wait in the cold, very busy streets of Hamilton. I wasn't able to go in and check out the ambiance of the place, but I imagine it's cool. We got it, picked up the pizza and got it back to his place. This was for New Year's Eve. I tasted the curry on its own. Delicious. I basically poured the rice into the bowl and stirred it around. And I proceeded to eat it in silence, ignoring everyone around me as I ate the best curry of my life. He asked if I liked it, so I nodded and kept eating. I suggested that I wanted a pill or something that delayed my fullness so I could eat like 5 orders of it, because it's so good. Massaman Curry with Braised Beef 11/10

We needed lunch and came upon this Thai restaurant on Google. Their lunch menu is a few dollars cheaper than their dinner menu. The ambiance is rustic and there are about 9 seating areas. It feels like it used to be a bar place. The kitchen is at the back with an open door concept. My partner's beef pad Thai was decent and the portion was large. The noodle flavour and texture reminded us of Thailand. However, the beef was very chewy. One has to chew it like it's gum. I had the duck curry with some fruits. The fruits could have been more infused with the curry sauce. Curry sauce came lukewarm - not hot in temperature. The duck meat was pretty good. The rice, I was surprised came inside the dish. It's usually on the side at other restaurants. Then, by the time we got our bill, it turned sour. They charged us an extra $1 for a merchandise (I know $1 isn't much, but we didn't buy anything expect food!). The waitress had to ask the kitchen staff, and she told us that it's added to all bills. What??? Food was decent, but they shouldn't be charging extra for nothing.

You can now order on Uber Eats. I tried the Khao Soi which was a delicious yellow broth similar to a mild curry, with amazing egg noodles, and lots of herbs and spices. I ordered a jar of the chili oil and added some to the dish which added the perfect amount of heat. The noodle dish had such a beautiful umami flavor and feeling, I really enjoyed it. The chili oil was pretty special and has all sorts of spices! We transferred the oil to a jar and look forward to adding to more dishes. The Thai rolls and ice tea hit the spot. Can't wait to keep working our way through their amazing menu! Yum!!

Notably, I really enjoyed their Shrimp Cocktails and Chiang Mai Noodle a.k.a. Khao Soi (4/5) since they ONLY use the crunchy fried-egg noodles and drench it with with super sweet reddish chicken curry soup. Other Thai places Khao Soi would also intermix regular rice noodles, but not here haha! Consider sharing this dish bc it's large & can get overwhelmingly sweet.

So, that's good and bad. Food will invariably be in front of you within minutes, and for this and other reasons, you'd be well advised to treat this as a family style dining experience. Order a variety of dishes to share. I've probably dined here a dozen times over the years, at least, and it's a consistent, reliable win. This time, I went with the intention of taking photos for the purposes of a review, but got distracted, so can only produce the sticky rice with peanut sauce appetizer. ;-)

I was surprised that they did not highlight more of their Thai curry or other traditional Thai dishes. This was a bit of a red flag for me. Overall, the dishes were watery and needed more flavour. It did not taste authentic. Anything that was supposed to be breaded/fried was soggy by the time we got home. They should adjust their recipes for takeout by serving the meal separately with sauce on the side. Quality and taste were below expectations compared to other authentic Thai restaurants I have eaten in the Greater Toronto Area. Restaurant and location cleanliness and ambiance could also be improved, Unfortunately there was a homeless person sitting in the waiting area and I did help him out, but was surprised as this was my first experience seeing this at a restaurant.
