Just finished THE BEST Authentic Thai food EVER!!! My husband and I were in the Hamilton area and randomly fell across this restaurant. A very sweet family run business!!! The inside has been recently renovated and was extremely clean (bathrooms too)!!! We felt very safe dining out here during the pandemic. I'm sure everything is amazing on the menu, but we especially enjoyed the fresh rolls, chicken skewers, and chicken pad Thai. read more

Honestly when you first see it you have some doubts. The outside is very old-school gas station diner. The interior has some touches of Asian decor mixed with burger diner booths and tiles. HOWEVER, the service is astounding. The owner and his waitress periodically checked to ensure we were satisfied with the food without being suffocating. The food was fresh. I had the pad thai where it was a balanced noodle to shrimp & chicken dish. My boyfriend had #29 (0 idea on what it was called) it was crispy chicken with a curry. The yellow curry was amazing - it was creamy and full of flavour. This dinner has convinced my boyfriend to return with me when he originally had the "oh no" facial expression walking in. read more

While the food was very tasty.. The slow service was the braking point for the group of four that I was with today. We were shown to our table quickly enough and presented with menus (Which are extensive and a lot unique choices. Had the Crab Rangoon and Spring Rolls for starters, the spicy spaghetti (Minus the chilis and green peppers) was my main dish (it was delicious) Other dishes ordered were the sweet and sour chicken and fish and finally spicy noodles with chicken and shrimp. Kudos to the kitchen staff and chefs! The drawback was the SLOW and I mean SNAILS PACE service. 10 minute wait for the appetizers to the table.. another 15 minutes for the mean dishes to arrive and while we ordered dessert after an almost 30 minute wait we choose cancel them and leave. Also two of people in our party ended up taking the dishes back to the counter... after the waitresses failed to do so. We were told that the reason for the slow service was because they had "online orders" to fill first. One would think that those actually sitting in the restaurant would be the first priority. The likelihood that we will be returning is slim to nil. That being said if you have a couple of hours to kill and don't mind sitting and waiting for your food.. This is the spot for you! read more

Ordered food from here with friends a couple of months back and really enjoyed the meal. Unfortunately when we ordered last Saturday we were very disappointed. The coconut soup was watery and tasteless. Probably the worst I have ever had. Our pad Thai was a sticky blob of noodles with heaven knows what strewn inside (one was chicken and the other vegetarian) The spring rolls were dry with very little filling and the insides of the mango cold rolls tasted stale. We have had better Thai food at food courts. One almost wonders if this food was hanging around from the day before. The bottom line. Will never order from here again read more

This is my go to Thai place for sure. It has everything at very reasonable prices. The food never disappoints and since discovering this place I rarely order Thai anywhere else. Don't let the exterior fool you either. The food is always hot and ready to be picked up and the staff is so friendly. 10/10, 5 stars for sure. read more

Wow! Did not expect the quality of food from the exterior appearance of the restaurant. Probably best Thai food I've had between Chicago and Toronto! Ignore your first impression of the strip mall where Thai Tamarind is located: The food is top-notch, and very, very authentic. We have never had a bad meal here, and they do take-out as well as dine-in. Pad Thai is excellent, Green Curry is excellent, Drunken noodles are excellent. Should I go on? This was some of the best Thai food in Hamilton but they have recently changed owners and with it, the menu. The new restaurant is much nicer inside with a complete renovation. All the furnishings match and the old tacky ornaments have bee replaced. I have only eaten at the new place once but was very upset that they couldn't get the curry pad Thai correct. They don't even offer shrimp penang anymore. The food they do serve is still good but this is not the same hidden gem it once was. read more

I've been here a few times now and never had a bad meal! The chef came out today to tell me that they really mean vegetarian when you ask for it: no chicken stock/soup mix, no fish sauce, no egg, etc., if that's what you want. The last time I ate at Thai Tamarind was years ago when they were in downtown Hamilton. We've driven past the new location at Hwy 2 & 52 numerous times without stopping. Today we thought we'd check it out and were pleasantly surprised. The food is still excellent and authentic. My wife and I both had the cashew chicken stir fry. It is very authentic, with big chunks of orange in it and well flavoured but not too spicy. Our friends' chicken curry and mango salad were also excellent. The mango salad was a huge portion. My only begative comment: the background music was way too loud and we had trouble conversing. We asked to have the volume turned down and they honoured our request. On the outside, the place looks a bit run-down and sketchy, but the food is suprisingly good. Food was very inexpensive for the amount that you got, and we liked pretty much everything we tried. We had a great dinner here ... it's an unassuming location (beside a gas station) but my sister has had take out from here many times. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty. It's a "simple" dining room that was formerly a donut diner and they added a few Thai decorations. Reasonable prices, large portions. read more

This is the BEST local Thai food in the city. Aesthetically the place looks like a diner they took over and haven't put the time to redecorate so it doesn't have an exotic atmosphere whatsoever.
