We ordered some lunch time specials on a weekday, which were a great deal. You get a main with hot and sour soup and a spring roll. The pad Thai wasn't anything special. It tasted like I've had it before. Not that it was bad, it was just very basic, like I wouldn't go out of my way to eat this again but wouldn't mind eating it if it was there. My bfs basil chicken was actually delicious. The basil flavour was so strong. Which is exactly what I expected. It's a great portion as well. But the star of the meal was the hot and sour soup. Maaaaan, I'm so glad it was too spicy for my bf cuz I got to have two of those to myself lol. It was SOOO good. The consistency is great, not too runny or thin. Flavour on point. Not pinch on the tofu. I will order this again and again. Even their spring roll was amazing! I don't expect much from lunch time special spring rolls lol but I was so surprised at how these didn't get soggy in the bag. I consumed it probably 10-15 mins after getting our order and it was STILL crunchy! The filling seems pretty primo too and not just a bunch of cabbage and carrots. This place is very spacious and has a great ambience. Come here for dinner with some friends, we ordered the chicken satay, spicy noodle chicken and pad Thai chicken. Loved the satay chicken with the peanut sauce. I had the spicy noodle chicken, it was a good portion with lots of chicken and vegetables. I wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce so I would recommend sticking with the pad thais to be safe. Overall, the staff were attentive and friendly. It's a large Thai restaurant in which the door is interesting to open. Upon entering, I felt it was quite dark for a Thai place, especially for lunch. Wait - the washroom is even darker than the dining area!! Geesh, let there be light!! There's a limit of how far one can go to be romantic, but when you have to find light to see the menu (which is in tiny font), that's not cool. Due the pandemic, we got to choose our tables only to be told in five minutes to move over to another table in case other customers came. What??? There were over 12 tables and not social distancing for sure. At the end, no other customers entered during the lunch period. Sadly. We went for their lunch menu only to be told it's online only. Bummer. (We ate lunch there years ago.) My noodle dish came in a cool fish plate which I really liked and admired. I want one!! The food was decent, but portion size is smaller. Reading reviews for Soontorn Banh Thai in downtown Oakville, Ontario, suggests a possible change of ownership or chef somewhere in the distant past. Regardless, our experience there on a recent weekday evening left the impression that the kitchen had lost its touch and service/management hadn't figured out what to do about it. Once we realized that they had no parking lot despite affirming it did on their Yelp page, we walked into a dark, yet well appointed dining room. Service was provided by nicely dressed seater and server, so we hoped for auspicious moments to come. Unfortunately, they really didn't arrive. By the time we sampled our order of Tom Yum Soup, Coconut Chicken Soup, Pad Thai (shrimp) and Spicy Noodles (chicken, described as "Pad Kee Mao"), we realized that the kitchen lacked appropriate spices for each dish, and was heavy handed with sugar and pepper, not nearly in proper proportion, nor as called for by recipe. To explain: The Tom Yum Soup was sweet, when it should have been sour and hot with the influence of lemongrass. There was none to be found. The same sugariness was present in the Pad Thai, where a subtle sweetness mixed with other spices would be acceptable. Those other wonderful Thai tones were missing as were the ground peanuts. The Spicy Noodles (Pad Kee Mao by their own admission) also lacked the key ingredient, lemongrass, and small red hot chili pepper or flakes to bring the expected flavor and heat. Rather, it was loaded primarily with white pepper, salt and another unidentified spice, which although not seen, packed a strong punch of the wrong taste. Further, rather than broad noodles usually present in this dish, much smaller gauge noods were found at the bottom of the fish bowl platter. So disappointing. And, what about the over abundance of broccoli and onion and the absence of carrot, celery or other greens? The final insult was that our request for chopsticks was met with distain as if we were bad children for even asking. I am not Thai, but having been there twice on business and dined in both fine restaurants and indulged in their great street food. I never had to ask for sticks, because they were ever present. We were just trying for a more Asian feel to the meal. That attitude killed whatever hope we had for redemption from the house. So, cool the dismissiveness, and work on warming your costumer service, not to mention securing proper provisions. read more

Located in downtown Oakville, which is important to note because when I searched for the place on my GPS, it took me to a completely different area in Oakville. After realising this mishap, jumped back onto the highway and needed another ten minutes from where it originally misled me to find the actual restaurant. With road repairs, know you'll be surrounded by heavy construction and if you aren't familiar with Oakville, the walking path leading to the restaurant is quite the journey.. Met girlfriends for lunch during a work day. Restaurant was fairly empty, minus four tables, including ours. Has the feel of a fine dining restaurant and is dimly lit. Good for romantic evenings, I guess. We each ordered from their lunch menu. I had the shrimp green curry. If it weren't for the soup, salad and spring roll that accompanied my meal, would have left feeling hungry. There were four pieces of shrimp in my dish, with the majority being rice and vegetables. The sauce was also fiery hot in spite of enquiring about since the dish was labelled as mild. Had my friends not requested this place for convenience, I'd not have gone out of my way to dine in. I was very excited to find a Thai restaurant while roaming around since I have lived in Thailand pretty much half my life and LOVE Thai food. Then I got their Basil chicken, coconut chicken soup, green curry soup and noodle soup. Let's begin.. - Basil chicken or should I say, onion and broccoli chicken?? The dish was FULL of broccoli and chicken and barely any basil. If you've been to Thailand then you might know this would have been a crime there! You aren't supposed to add any vegetables and only protein, chilies, garlic and the basil. Was it good? Yes but this is not the dish!!!! You cant make up a dish and slap a name of another dish to it. - coconut chicken soup. Why so sweet? This is supposed to be sour and salty bit it was SWEET! I don't know if thr chef accidentally used the coconut milk for the desserts for this soup? Its not supposed to be sweet but omg we had to add the lemon from our drink to make it less sweet . - green curry. Why would you add broccoli to green curry????????? They added the bamboo shoots which I wouldn't have been so mad since you can find that in Thailand but you aren't supposed yo add broccoli! Broccoli doesn't go with everything and its not even a common vegetable in Thailand! - noodle soup. Wrong choice of noodles, the soup was too thin. I love their food here it is one of the best in the area. They're very accommodating for those with dietary restrictions which isn't always as easy as you may think at Thai restaurants. Some of them make their sauces ahead of time, but not these guys! They make everything fresh. My one complaint is the lack of light inside. It is very dark! I was craving Thai food (it's seriously becoming my fav), and my boyfriend and I were in town so we found this place and decided to go based on the positive reviews. Amazing experience, so glad we went! We ordered the green currie, spicy beef stir fry and 2 servings of white rice. The food was delicious (ate every last bit haha), the serving sizes were prefect - we were full and could not have eaten a 3rd dish even though we contemplated also ordering the pad thai when initially ordering... so 2 main dishes for 2 people is more than plenty. I'm someone who doesn't eat a lot of spicy food at all, and I found the green curry had a kick to it, but was really good! The ambiance was wonderful, lighting dim, nice suitable decor, very spacious and open. Last thing I wanted to mention... the service was outstanding!!! Everyone was really on top of things and extremely friendly. There was little crab meat, it was not really distinct. $15.95 Tom yum soup - too sour. Not a lot of tom yum flavour just overpowering citrus flavour and not spicy. $7.95 Basil shrimp - it was good, loved it but there was only 6 pieces of shrimp for $18.95 felt like it was overpriced for that portion. It was mostly vegetables. Garlic beef - the flavour of the garlic beef is really good but the beef is a little tough. Taste better than most places. $5 Piña colada - pretty good if you like coconut. It's not too sweet. Mange sticky rice - the mango was hard and really sour. The sticky rice was warm and soft. Trendy Thai spot in Oakville's Town Square. You can't miss the huge fortress-like door, that looks straight out of all the dungeon porn I watch. A bold first impression. We were greeted immediately, but cautioned that closing was an hour away. Was that necessary? Anyway, we grabbed a table when I noticed these spacepod-looking booths along the far wall. "Can we sit there?" I asked the way an eight-year-old might. If my mother was there she would have told me to sit quietly and behave. But she wasn't, so it was spacepod time! Truth be told, the booth is a little weird. The seats are pretty low to the floor and the booth is backless. It's almost like the area is a pimped out version of sitting on the floor. I liked the moody lighting and the plush triangular shaped pillows, but honestly I wouldn't cram more than four people here or things would get weird. So the first time I'm in a Thai restaurant, I usually order the pad thai. I decided to branch out and get a spicy Pad Kee Mao (big step, I know). My DC ordered a spicy pineapple chicken curry with a side of rice and we starte with an appetizer sampler (for one) to share. It really is meant for one person: three pieces of fried taro, one chicken satay skewer, one spring roll, one shrimp rolls. It wasn't amazing. The mains however were pretty good. I enjoyed the taste of the pineapple chicken curry more than my own chicken noodle dish, but both flavourful and spicy! It was a little pricy for Thai (Over $50 for two including tip), so in that regard the food falls a little short of my expectations. But with a great atmosphere and a solid menu, I'm sure to be back. If you are really hungry, go elsewhere. I had the Chicken Noodle dish and it was literally a hand full of noodles plus veggies and maybe five pieces of very thinly cut meat. It was very tasty and definitely fresh. Ambiente there is nice, too, and really clean...but I don't think I ever left a restaurant that hungry before and I don't want to have to rummage in my backpack outside for that muesli bar somewhere in there. I came here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend for the first time. We both enjoyed the decor and the atmosphere with the low lights. It's great for dates. The food itself was good. We ordered a hot and sour soup and spring rolls to share. Nothing special but i felt that the soup was sweeter than what I am used to. We then proceeded to order the green curry with chicken and pad Thai with shrimp. I really enjoyed the green curry but we thought it was weird you had to order rice on the side since most restaurants would have it with it. The pad Thai was good but nothing spectacular. My only complaint was the service. We felt that it wasn't very attentive where several times we had to flag someonw down to get out waters refilled. Excellent, slightly upscale Thai restaurant in downtown Oakville. It's in a little square next to L'Atelier Grigorian, through the massive wooden doors. The place is dark and atmospheric with cushy pillows and ornate furniture. Definitely has a lounge-y vibe and would be a nice place to go even just for drinks. Lots of cozy nooks and round tables which are great for groups. Thankfully, it's not just style over substance. The kitchen delivers with hearty, authentic Thai dishes with fresh, quality ingredients. My friend and I shared: fresh vegetarian rolls, chicken pad thai, and red curry tofu. Portions were generous (we both ate a lot and still had leftovers). Service was courteous. The prices are slightly more expensive than your average Thai restaurant, but still pretty reasonable. Definitely one of the best Thai places I have found in the west GTA. read more

What a terrible experience.We decided to celebrate our Anniversary at SoonTron Bahn Thai restaurant so we reserved a table at 7:00 pm.We had to wait for our table for 10 minutes. Then it took the waitress 15 minutes to take our order. At 8:40 we left without having our dinner as the waitress kept apologizing.Very bad and slow service , they ruined the special night out we planned. Left angry and frustrated , we paid for the 2 appetizers and 2 non alcoholic drinks ($40 which was not cheap by the way). GO THERE ONLY IF YOU WANT SLOW SERVICE AND UNORGANIZED STAFF WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. I would give this restaurant ZERO STARS but one is the least I can give. read more

While I am hesitant to hand out 5 star reviews, this experience was close to perfect and gave me no reason to offer less. My go to dish for testing a Thai restaurant, and perhaps my favorite dish on the planet when done well, is a simple Thai basil with chicken and vegetables. This was easily one of the best offerings I've ever had in this regard. The spice level was fairly low and gave room for the subtle flavors of the seasonings and the fresh basil. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the chicken was very tender. The classy atmosphere would make a great setting for a date or for a large gathering. This was a quick lunch visit on my lonesome so I didn't go deep into the menus offerings but I left extremely happy. *side note. It was highly recommended to me to try the tofu and taro appetizer but I didn't have the appetite. read more

This was my first visit to this place. First we were out on lakeshore road in middle of snow storm yesterday couldn't find the Resturant called them twice they failed to guide properly. Went in cold as hell. Ordered a bottle of wine and they only had normal glasses no wine glasses. They offered to give us champagne glasses instead. Although it was -12C outside. White wine was warm. After 8 mins of my order they brought all the food out and didn't even give us 10 mins to enjoy our first glass of wine. Food was just ok and for the prices they charged we expected much better. Tonight the six of us went for the first time. If you are rating just the food itself then the scores would be 4.5 out of 5. Ambiance would be a 4.0 out of 5.0. The reason for the less than perfect score would be the less than perfect round tables. They look nice but the seats on the end aren't comfortable; there is nothing to lean back on. We tried it out and then opted for a table. The dishes we tried were the Chicken Pad Thai, the Shrimp Pad Thai, the Spicy Thai Noodle, the Cashew Chicken and the Chicken Fried Rice. The Pad Thai was awesome. The Cashew chicken had "kick" so avoid that if you don't like a little fire. The best parts of the evening were the food, the friends and the ambiance. Probably the best Thai food in all of the GTA. Firstly the decor inside is absolutely beautiful! Staff is extremely friendly and able to help you with anything. The chefs are also open to changes and will accommodate any dietary needs.
