I am absolutely disgusted by my experience with Piocos Chicken, and I am filing a complaint with the Health Department and requesting that this restaurant be inspected. I ordered food from Piocos Chicken for my daughter's FIRST birthday party--a milestone we only get to celebrate once. The food was served buffet-style as the main meal for our family and friends. Shortly after people began eating, guests started approaching me individually telling me something was wrong with the food. The food tasted old, the rice was badly burned, and we became concerned enough that we stopped serving the food altogether. One of my friends ate the chicken and shortly afterward began feeling unwell. She actually left the party early because she didn't feel well after eating it. Other guests also reported feeling sick after eating the food. Because this was supposed to be the main meal and our guests were expecting to eat, we ultimately ended my daughter's first birthday celebration early. It was humiliating and heartbreaking. You only get one first birthday, and instead of enjoying that moment with my daughter, I was apologizing to guests and worrying about the food I had served them. I intentionally did not call the restaurant during the party because I didn't want to add any more stress to my daughter's birthday. I called the following day, Sunday, and spoke with the manager, Jonathan. Jonathan told me he would look into what happened and call me back. He never called me back. I followed up, but days went by without any resolution. It wasn't until five days after the party that I finally spoke with the owner, Miguel Fontanez. That is when I was suddenly asked for "proof" and repeatedly told that I was supposedly the only person who had complained. Five days later, what exactly did they expect me to produce? My proof at that point was the people who were actually there and ate the food. My guests were willing to call the restaurant themselves and provide firsthand accounts of exactly what they ate and what they experienced so the restaurant could properly investigate. And I want to make one thing extremely clear: I NEVER ONCE ASKED FOR A REFUND. I wasn't looking for free food. I wasn't trying to get my money back. I contacted the restaurant because multiple guests independently told me something was wrong with the food, we had to stop serving it, and people reported feeling sick afterward. I believed the responsible thing to do was notify the restaurant so they could investigate what happened. Instead, I was treated as though I were lying or trying to scam them. Miguel Fontanez told me that I should have brought the food back. Again, this conversation happened FIVE DAYS after the party. I had reported the problem the very next day to his manager and was told Jonathan would investigate and call me back. Nobody told me at that time that I needed to preserve or return the food. Had Jonathan called me back as promised and told me they needed the remaining food, that would have been an entirely different situation. Instead, their lack of follow-up became my problem five days later. When I tried to explain this, rather than showing concern, listening to the guests who were willing to corroborate what happened, or simply speaking to me professionally, Miguel Fontanez yelled at me and cursed at me. That was the final straw. Restaurants make mistakes. But when a customer contacts you to report a potentially serious problem--especially when guests are reporting feeling sick--the appropriate response should be to listen, document the complaint, investigate it, and communicate with the customer. It should not be to ignore a promised callback for days and then treat the customer like a liar because she cannot produce food nobody told her to save. Because of what occurred, I am filing a complaint with the Health Department and requesting an inspection. I am not claiming that Piocos Chicken has health-code violations; that is for the appropriate authorities to investigate and determine. But based on what my guests and I personally experienced, I believe reporting it is absolutely warranted. What should have been a beautiful memory of my daughter's first birthday ended early because we no longer felt comfortable serving the food we purchased for our guests. Then I spent the following five days trying to get the restaurant to take what happened seriously, only to ultimately be yelled at and cursed at by the owner. I will never eat at Piocos Chicken again, and I would never trust them with another birthday, celebration, or important event. The food ruined the meal. The way management and ownership handled what should have been a serious customer complaint made the entire experience unforgivable. read more

The food tastes amazing. We came here after a family member's recommendation of authentic Hispanic/quick and cheap meal. The dining area is pretty cramped. The servers looked extremely tied (understandable, there was a huge line when we came in). Now, who decides to open the place each morning seeing how filthy it is? The utmost show of respect to your clients is cleanliness, basic! This place lacks tremendously. The ceiling is full of black mildew, grease and dust. All of that is bellowing on people's food. Chicken taste great some times, other times no taste. You order a whole chicken and they give you a box already packed. When you open it its missing a piece of chicken. Food is dry, that you should just throw it away after the first bite and I showed them and they don't care. Management don't get back to you. Piocos used to be a place I made a point to visit every time I came to Orlando. The chicken was always amazing, and it felt worth the stop. Unfortunately, my most recent visit completely changed my opinion. Since the restaurant is close to the airport and we were starving before a flight, we decided to stop for what we hoped would be a good, filling dinner. We waited in line, only to be told that ordering chicken would take 20 minutes, so we chose two combination plates instead. We were a party of three and planned to share. Because we asked for a twist on their regular mofongo to make it a trifongo, we were told the second combination would take a bit longer. That was fine with us, so we paid and started eating the first plate while waiting. About ten minutes after picking up the second combination, the same employee who handed it to us suddenly started yelling across the restaurant that she had given us an extra item and that we needed to pay for it. This happened in front of everyone. I explained that we had no idea how the combinations were supposed to be served and that the mistake wasn't ours, but she insisted we pay anyway. We did, because we are honest people, but the way it was handled was embarrassing and completely unprofessional. I can only imagine how this would have played out if we had taken the food to go. To make things worse, the food wasn't as good as it used to be. It didn't taste authentically Puerto Rican, and for a moment I wondered if the ownership had changed, because this kind of treatment and quality would never have happened before. This place has been around for almost 20 years and I really hope it never closes. The sandwiches here are so fuckin good and the prices are great. $1 coffee is unbeatable. They are known for the rotisserie chicken but I usually get the Pernil y queso and a big ass cup of rice. You dont need more than that but they do have a full bar of food choices and a good amount of sandwiches. They also have a big bakery area. Everyone that works here are helpful and attentive. My usual is carne frita ( fried Pork) with mofongo, but I am now hooked on the avocado salad and rotisserie chicken. I don't speak spanish, but I usually am able to order by pointing and trying to sound something out. Sometimes there is someone there to translate. Don't let that stop you from giving this place a try. Today I got half a chicken, two sides, and coconut flan for $10. Great prices! I will be eating on this for at least three meals. Came in around 5 to get dinner for my family. I was in line and ordered one specific plate with rice and chicken, nothing else since it's for a child. I pay and go to my car and rearrange the food, I open the plate with "rice and chicken" and it's not what I ordered. I come here often and they have this roasted chicken on the line and I always order it for my kid. I go back inside and let them know that the order is wrong. They tell me it's not, that that's what I ordered. I tell them it's not, how are you gonna tell me when I order this (spending $80 roughly every time for a family of 4) specifically for my kid? More employees come over to try and explain and I tell them I don't need an explanation, I need the food to be fixed because on top of the order being wrong, it has veggies and my kid is highly allergic to one of them. I explain, they get a guy to come over, he tells me they can't do anything because I took it out of the restaurant. I have to pay for another one with "apparently" the correct chicken I had ordered. What kind of customer service GIVES the INCORRECT food and makes a customer pay MORE for them to fix THEIR mistake??? I always wondered why people stopped coming here and why the restaurant is always empty no matter what time of day it is. I don't normally eat Spanish food because my mom is the best Puerto Rican chef in my opinion, but Pioco's is amazing! The rice tasted great and was cooked to perfection.
