Love this place! Super casual and open for lunch & dinner :) great lunch specials! They serve beer & wine too! Came here for the first time to "Lucky Gnocchi Night" which is the 29th of every month. For $15.95 you can stay here as long as you want and try unlimited gnocchi all night until midnight when they close. Tonight they had 10 different flavors that they will pass around spoonfuls to each person with a plate and as many as you want. If you've never had gnocchi, it is like a potato dumpling served with a variation of sauces = deliciousness of pillow texture goodness. My friends and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a very long time, so we finally made our way over to Piola. When we got there, we were impressed at first because the waiter asked our preferences for our water (i.e. ice or no ice, straw or no straw) -- I'd never been asked that before. However, the experience went downhill after that. Our table felt largely ignored during our time at the restaurant. I ordered the Italia pizza. It came out in the design of an Italian flag, which I thought was pretty cute, but it also meant that the toppings were not evenly dispersed on the pizza. The food at the restaurant was overly priced, too -- additional toppings were much more expensive than either my friend or I was willing to pay. Overall, Piola's food was decent tasting, but overly priced. We didn't receive great service at the restaurant, either, so I probably will not be coming back in the future. read more

Some family friends were in town and I was looking for a quiet-ish place to take them to catch up. This was a good fit, on a Sunday evening it wasn't too crowded. We had a reserved table and they probably could have seated our table of 6 without it. I got the chicken parm but definitely can't wait to go back and try the pizza! Went we on a Thursday evening. The Caprese salad as an appetizer was delicious. We had the Carpricciosa pizza on wheat which was loaded with ham, mushrooms, and artichoke. Delicious! The menu has a ton of selections for pizza. I only wish they had a better wine list. Service is always fast and good! read more

Had the Born in the USA pizza, came with a side salad. Excellent it was enough for two people for a nice lunch. Lunch portion of tiramisu was a terrific add-on and portion was perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch. read more

This place has delicious authentic Italian pizza. Thinner crust, fresh mozzarella, and awesome toppings! We ordered two pizzas-the Miami Beach and the Brooklyn-so good!! The individual pizzas are 12" so they can be shared among other orders if you also want to try the pasta or entrees. We also saw that they had a pretty big wine selection and a more clubby interior design, but people from all ages were eating there and seemed to be enjoying themselves. I wouldn't recommend this place for parties of more than 7-8 people because seating is a little squished, unless you went during non-busy hours. Would definitely go back! read more

The pizza here reminded me of my trip to Italy back in 2010. It's a cool modern pizza joint. I tried the bruschetta as a starter. When we got the food, my first thought after the bite was "that's a lot of tomatoes." Then I kept eating them because the tomatoes were well-seasoned and delicious. Bottomline: I have never had such an uncomfortable time eating pizza. Someone else mentioned that this place seems to benefit solely from its location, which is why they seem to get away with charging so much for subpar pizza and I agree. It could be that our food and service happened to be terrible, but I don't see the fuss. Piola has been a place I have been wanting to try so we decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, our waiter made this such a terrible experience (which is a shame because the hostess and food runner were quite nice). Ishmael was our waiter according to our receipt; he never bothered to introduce himself, hence my uncertainty as to what his name really is. The very first words out of his mouth when he came up to us were, "What do you want?" There was no name exchange, cordial greeting, introduction, etc. Being our first time, we were very unfamiliar and overwhelmed by the choices and when we told him we did not know, he just left and only reappeared when he wanted to take our order. What made things more difficult besides his lack of interaction was his accent, whenever I asked for clarification or for him to repeat what he just said he got frustrated with ME. It also didn't help that he got my order wrong and attempted to blame me, even though I told him that I never said the name of the pizza because I knew I couldn't pronounce it and instead used the pizza number. He became visibly angry, took the wrong pizza, and walked away with out saying anything. The food runner later came by to tell me that he checked the menu and that the number I gave was the correct (#131, mushroom) and it as the FOOD RUNNER who had the courtesy to communicate to me that they were remaking the pizza. If you are willing to overlook terrible service for good food, i can't even say that I found redemption in the food. Our carpaccio was bland and our pizzas were also bland. We dropped in to Piola before a Rockets game as we'd read good reviews and it We had the Moderna Pizza which was so tasty, the crust just perfect, and our waiter was so professional, efficient and friendly. The ambience is modern but comfy, stylish and colorful. Great location in midtown on a pretty block, no trouble parking, minutes from the Toyota Center. Went here one night recently for pre-drinks and then went back for dinner while visiting Escape the Room. It was four of us, and we all loved both the drinks and the food. It was fun to sit at the bar, and the bartenders and manager were friendly and informative. I appreciated the vegan options, and my friends appreciated the free happy hour appetizers. I had the Houston pizza (without cheese) which was awesomely spicy, and the Roka Cabana salad without mozz. For drinks, I had the caipirinha, which is now a new favorite. I ate half of the pizza and salad, and then had the other half the next day, and I wanted more. I'll be back! read more
