    Basil martini

Short and convenient walk from our hotel. Happy they could accommodate our large group without a reservation as well. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Searing offered both inside and out was great too. My basil martini was out of this world delicious! Would def come back for it. I was not however wowed by the food. The chorizo pizza, garlic bread, mozzarella appetizer, and garlic bread were misses for me. The chicken parm however was pretty tasty.

My friend was on the hunt for a good margarita (sin sour mix - without pre made sour mix) So we found this little place a few days before we came here to eat just to grab a margarita. At that time it was 2 for 1 and they went down a treat for my friend whilst I had a soda (wasn't in the mood for drinking that night) So we returned a few days later since she loved the margaritas (and it's been hard finding an authentic and good one around) and she's been craving pizza for the past week. Me - not so much. Living in NYC has afforded me a very encompassing pizza experiences - so I'm very lucky. We started with margaritas before ordering. This time I joined in. The cool thing is that we both have different style margaritas and they both came out wonderful. She has her traditional whilst I have mine without sugar (no health reasons... I just am not a a fan of sugar and it doesn't sit well on my tummy) Clearly made with the Smokey aromas of a mezcal my friends was a classic margarita whilst mine had no sugar. Delicious - although my friend would think otherwise "too sour" was written all over her face - haha, but I thought it was tart and delicious - so I had 2...3! She had 2 margaritas and 2 Dos Equis (draft) We met some people from the states who got stuck in Playa during COVID and a lovely gentleman from Canada who decided to spend a month in Playa after a friends wedding (because that is a great idea! - esp if you can work from home) Now.. to the food - which is why I only left 3 stars. The pizza lacked a few elements that I desire for a thin style pizza. The flakey crust was burnt and crumbled while the base that lifted the toppings wasn't fully cooked and lacked the dexterity to hold the pizza without using two hands. I would have expected for flavor in the toppings with more basil as suggested in the menu pictures online but alas there was none. As for the eggplant parmigiana- which was nicely priced (MX$170-190, less than USD$10), it was so underwhelming because of its lack of cooking time. It wasn't fully cooked leaving it inedible - that is my only pitfall for the dish itself - if it were cooked fully it would have been lovely as the flavors were all there. But it's hard to chew on uncooked flavorful eggplant. Nonetheless, worth the stop. Maybe you can ask for it to be sent back and cooked further but I decided to take it home and cook it myself. Service was quick and delightful. Good energy and clean space. Would return again for the margaritas but probably not for the food. But I'm a pizzasnob so there's that. I do however subscribe to the idea that everyone has their own idea of what good food is to them. So if this food rocks your world - then I'm definitely not about to Yuck your yum! Cheers!

Where do I start with Piola?! This was my go to spot in South Beach, Miami! When I found them on Yelp, here in Playa, I could not believe it. I made this my first meal stop! This is my #1 pizza favorite! Stop here! The food is worth a visit everyday while in Playa

The place stands out. First, when you just walk down the street and see all the festive multicolored lights.... the happy atmosphere just lures you in. And then you see the menu and have a taste of the food, experience the friendliest service, and you never want to leave. Everything we tried was great. Pizza had a very thin crust and was delicious. The fettuccine Alfredo was a perfect al dente. The steak was juicy and cooked to perfection. The tiramisu desert was fantastic. (Yes, we went here three times - had to keep trying new dishes.) Our server Jonathan, was the first one to great us here and to charm us with his service. He is very sweet, professional, polite, funny, cool, personable. Thank you Jonathan!

Pizza rellena de jamon y queso was very average, but i am biased to the thick crust deep dish pizza that is rarely found in Mexico. Jamon was actual slices, seemingly cold cuts which was strange and unexpected as a pizza topping. Service was a strong point.

There is a hyped up "pitch man" standing outside encouraging people off the street to come in. He told me he could make a special that included a drink of "whatever I wanted" well since I was thinking of pizza anyway I decided to give it a try. I decided on a glass of Cabernet and even though it wasn't on the menu, a mixed salad. The waiter couldn't have been sweeter, he was very accommodating. I also asked for water and I noticed the waiter poured the water from a bottled water. I didn't question and assumed (u know the saying about a-ss-uming) that they just used bottled water since he didn't say anything. The mixed salad was simple but a nice size. I also ordered a margarita pizza. Well the pizza was just a cheese pizza with three pieces of basil. I asked for more basil and the waiter did bring a side of basil for me. This was really bad bland pizza! It reminded me of a frozen Digiorno and that was even being generous! When I received my bill...surprise! No special, it was only if you ordered 2 pizzas. Oh and also a tip was added on. I didn't mind the tip because honestly the waiter had nothing to do with the crappy food. I had heard that there was great pizza in Playa but this was NOT it! Not only was it my crappiest meal in Playa it was my most expensive!! Almost 30.00! And yep a-ss-uming, I was charged for the water. On my next visit to Playa, I will definitely avoid this place.

Chas found this spot while vacationing here and loved the area so much that he rented an apartment nearby and flys down often from New Orleans to stay there. We started with some Mezcalina's and fresh house fried tortillas with salsa's. The chipotle salsa and the avocado with cilantro were a nice change of pace from your normal salsa verde y rojo. The chips were clearly freshly fried and tasted great even without the salsa's. Our appetizers were a baked Camembert with fruit and tortillas, a sopa azteca, and fresh tuna tostadas. The Camembert was quite good as was the soup, but these tuna tostadas were one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. Everything on them worked so well together and you could add a splash of soy sauce and it was even better! I'd order these as my meal at 90% of the spots in the world and leave happy! Our entrees were a grilled pichana as well as a lobster pizza from the wood fired oven. I love cooking pichana and don't see it often on menus when I go out so that was a nice treat. The temp was perfect for what we asked for and it was seasoned well. The potatoes that came with it had excellent flavor as well. I could take or leave the corn haha When Chas told me he was eating pizza in Mexico with lobster on it I said "dude, what are you doing with your life?" He said just wait til you try it. He ... was right. The lobster was delicious and buttery, the sauce had great flavor, and the cheese (which was not mozzarella) worked surprisingly well. I will say that I normally like my pizza crispy and this was missing that element...but the flavor more than made up for it. Add on to all of this the fact that you're surrounded by a beautiful pool, swings over the sand, a nice bar, and the owners dog is always nearby to say hi to haha. One of the easiest ones yet.
