Don Chendo is not on 5th..it's on 30th..take a walk to Don Chendo you won't regret it. I highly recommend the Meat's Lovers pizza and the Meatballs Sunday Sauce pizza if you like red sauce. If you don't like red sauce get their chicken pesto pizza. I have personally tried all three of these pizzas and love them all. This place has amazing & friendly service and excellent pizza. I got the Don Chendo which came with a chewy yet crispy pizza crust. The sauce could have used a bit of garlic+ salt, but otherwise this was a great time. It's right around the corner so I will definitely be returning! read more

Excellent deep dish Chicago style pizza (not too deep which I really enjoyed)! Come here for the crust & the customer service- the crust is light, flakey, & delicious! The staff was so good to us! I used to really like this restaurant. Unfortunately, they have gone down hill recently. I ordered Pene pasta with creamy tomato sauce. Half order of tomato bread. I went in early to avoid any crowds. One other table besides myself. I waited 30 minutes for pasta. The bowl was hot and the pasta was cool. The bread they served with it was hard. What does bread cost? This pasta cost 250.00 nmp. When I told the waiter it was not freshly cook after waiting 30 minutes. He laughed at me. Better choices exist near by. Romeo, Romeo. Where are you? We had read some good reviews... so had to come check out the hype. It was well worth it! We ordered the pizza Chendo... and thought we wouldn't order an appetizer so that we would have space to try some of the awesome desserts... but alas the pizza - seemingly so little... bit jam packed with flavour and dense... (in all the good ways a deep dish Chicago pizza should be) conquered us. Hospitality was wonderful. Waiters cared for us and took an interest in our every needs. It's a little of the beaten path from Playa, but well worth the journey. We've decided that for our next trip we will eat the dessert while we wait for our pizza to be cooked... and take the pizza home with us! We were very excited to try this place as this place is onevery must try list. We got seated right away which surprised & delighted us. There are only about 8 tables & the place is cozy & cute. We ordered a bottle of wine and the Easterner pizza minus the artichoke. We were told it would take about 25 minutes. No worries for us, we're on vacay & had a bottle of wine to enjoy. Well, 70 minutes later no pizza. After finding our server we were told 4 more minutes. We finally got our pizza & it was incorrect & COLD! It was also missing the green olives so the waiter just brought over a mini cup of them. We talk to the manager & asked to reheat the pizza which still back COLD. Deep dish pizza in Playa??? Yup! This is the place and it's utterly delicious. So is everything actually. I've already dined here about 5 times since arriving in Playa and plan to continue my explorations of their delicious offerings. Just an fyi; on Fridays, they offer gluten-free deep dish. You can also get vegan cheese at any time and at no additional cost. Other dishes: The spaghetti bolognese was sensational, I think they cooked the sauce for a whole week, it was that rich and flavorful. The best spaghetti and meatballs I've ever had, shrimp sautéed in lemon, garlic and white wine, unbelievable lasagna. Next up is the chicken park, which is supposedly' 'last meal' worthy! The apps were great too. I wanted to drink the bruschetta sauce. Even the Caesar salad was A+. A bonus, you can get half portions of the apps. If you want a dose of first rate Italian in Mexico, this is the place. It's actually better than most Italian restaurants I've been to at home (and we have some exceptional choices!). The service is fabulous (most of the staff speak English too - for anyone who prefers that. Plus they have an an English menu). Prices are very good and it has a very cute and comfortable ambiance. While staying in playa del Carmen me and my wife came to this hidden gem . the service was awesome and the food was out of this world. the restaurant took all the proper precautions to ensure we had a safe and clean dinner . The 4starts is taking into consideration my years of personal consumption of mass quantities of pasta pizza and garlic bread. For starters let me say this place is about as close as it gets to the real deal but I have to rate it a 3 star due to the runny ness of the pizza as well as the sauce that came on the pasta it's flavor was perfect but sauce should stick to noodles not lay in the bottom of the plate like a bowl of soup. The chicken was all white meat and clearly good quality it was however over cooked :( the noodles were perfect aldanté fresh and no complaints. The pizzas is DEEP dish with a 1.5" tall crust edge that was great for cleaning up the extra sauce from the noodles. All of the ingredients on the pie were again fresh however due to the sheer amount of toppings the pies crust was basically swimming. Not my style. I like a robust tomato basil garlic sauce and this pizza for sure had it! I just can't get over the 2oz of water on my plate! Finally the garlic bread, fresh, lightly toasted with home made garlic butter spread.... this was the perfect pair for the pasta the butter was not to much that the bread was soggy but enough that the whole piece was adequately covered every bite was even more addictive then the last I could have easily eaten 3 loafs my self! The bottom line: We will be back! Every other time we've walked past Don Chendo, there's a line, so we were thrilled to get a table last night while just passing by. Great service, super friendly and attentive staff, and extremely generous portions! Started with the delicious cheese balls (essentially cheese sticks). So amazing. Hubs had a gigantic "regular" sized house salad. Delicious. For entrees, he had the Sausage Rigatoni, kiddo had the Penne in Pink Sauce, and I had the Chicken Parmesan. All came with garlic bread. Incredible flavor, and to say that we left with leftovers is an understatement. We could feed our neighbors for 2 days! Equally delicious today, too! I'd like to begin by saying when we come to PDC we don't come here to open our maws to anything other than little gems, and those gems are usually little spaces run on love, sweat and passion. The establishments are also usually run by an entrepreneurial Gen-Xer Mexican who has come to love, cherish and take pride in their country's rich history and heritage that can be told through food and food alone; no translator needed. They do this by either painstakingly learning great grandmother's mole or by taking a more direct approach by simply employing her in the kitchen. This place happens to be such a place that is run on love, sweat and passion, but also just happens to be run by a guy transplanted from the Northeastern part of the U.S. whose dream was, "to cook sausage and spaghetti and meatballs for people" and just happened to be doing it in Mexico. Russell will give you the best. That's it. Simple. Tonight we had a glitch...it happens. I'm GF..I was excited..GF pasta..in Mexico.. I was beyond excited to dive into an abnormal carb frenzy and cheese delirium of Double Butter Alfredo...but it was not to be, as Russell said to me, "I'm out every day looking for the best gluten free noodle, and if I can't find it, I won't buy it." So instead, he created a beautiful dish of homemade sausage on a bed of spinach with crisp grilled broccoli and zucchini. It was exactly what I didn't know I wanted. This place was a lovely surprise. We ordered the deep dish pepperoni pizza. It's like Chicago style with the pie crust. Very good pizza for Mexico. The only thing is they only go to medium size, but I wouldn't say it's a medium... it's more like a "personal" size pizza. If your really hungry, this might not be the place to go but the pizza is tasty. If you go as a couple, you may need to get 2 mediums which translates to 2 personal sized pizza's based on what they provide you which is not a medium pizza. read more
