First off its been 40+ yrs since I ate there. Second, I don't think that Dam burger looks anything like the original,, the original has a slab of ham, with lots of bacon, and it was so big you couldn't eat half of it,, I always took the rest home! The food, one burger, chicken strips and clam strips took an hour. The servers were so nice but there is no reason that our order should have taken an hour. There were only 6 people ahead of us. Stopped in for lunch don't let the front of the restaurant dissuade you. Behind the door is the best hamburger I've had in many years. The cook is excellent and fast. The service was outstanding and it was pretty busy. When you see a group of local old men from town gathering for lunch, you know it's the best place in town. I had the Dam burger with everything. Tasty deluxe burger. Not a lot of tap beers (and they were out of IPA). Service was slow, but it was the Blueberry festival with many more grabbing food than is likely typical. Though it took awhile to get fed, the waitresses were attentive and didn't let you go unacknowledged. That's yuge when they're slammed. read more

This is definitely a home town watering hole. There was already a large (loud) group in the center table when we got there. It reminded us of our dive at home. My husband had a dam burger and Damn!! It was huge but it was good. Almost more of a knife and fork burger because it was so messy. But he ate it to the last bite. I had the shrimp and they were as expected. The fries, unfortunately, were not completely cooked and I dislike limp, just warm fries so I passed those up. I had to go to the counter myself to get a refill so service wasn't great but there were only two of them-a cook and a waitress-to start with. I would go again and try something else. read more

This is the only game in town in Mossyrock, if you want non-Pizza dinner after 4pm; luckily, it's good! The service has always been decent when I've dropped by, so not sure about other reviewers' comments. Prices are reasonable, portions HUGE, and the food - though almost entirely of the fried diner-type - is filling and tasty. The Dam Burger is legendary with good reason, and the Reuben shouldn't be missed. I always go for the fish on Fridays. The Pioneer is a small-town slice of a time gone by. Best random stop ever!! This is that great little town off Hwy 12 one stop sign. It has this tiny restaurant/bar that everyone knows everybody... Their special on Tuesday was a cheeseburger and fries for $3.50. Weird. So we asked about the "dam" burger it was $7.00 with fries. Well its huge (it had a comment that splitting the dam burger was plus $1.50 should have figured that out). Hubby ordered that, I got the shrimp basket for $7.00 (she said 15 shrimp, yep, 15 and they were not the tiny ones). It was amazing. We both loved it. I recommend that you stop. It's a minute off the main highway but the main street brings you back 40+ years and its good. read more

The food is marginal and the service bordered on rude. I had their Deluxe Cheese Burger but wasn't asked what I wanted on it so I got it with some sort of dressing that has no business being put on a burger and sweet pickles, which I don't care for. How hard is it to ask your customers what they want on the burger? But of course that would involve actually speaking to the customer with more than a grunt and head nod. This is the 2nd place I've stopped for lunch since arriving in the area and in both cases the service has been atrocious, (the other place was called the Brown Shack Tavern and is about 8 miles away). It's like I've been transported to some alternate universe where kindness and civility have been replaced with indifference and rudeness. I don't expect anything special, just common courtesy will do and so far Lewis County, WA is sorely lacking in that category. A large group of us went there to eat last night and the service was awful. Our food order was good but when we tried to order more drinks we were completely ignored and the staff was engrossed in serving their "local" crowd. They totally ignored us standing at the bar and served people who came in about 10 minutes after us. When we said something to them they got attitude with us and we took our money and left. We will be following up with the owner of the bar to make sure they know how there staff is treating visitors from out of the area. read more

This bar and "grill" is more like the local dive bar. They advertise delicious big, Dam burgers... But quite frankly it tastes like cafeteria food. It is what it is however. You go into a bar LOL you get barfood! My friend and I stopped in hoping to grab a quick bite and a drink before we were off to explore Mossyrock and surrounding areas. He got the Dam burger, I got a BLT, and we had fried mushrooms. Everything was frozen, nothing was fresh, nothing was spectacular. Even the restaurant/bar it's self could use a good cleaning or revamping. LOL maybe even a few new employees. It seemed as if they were too busy to serve us or continue serving us. Yet ironically, the place was going to be open until 2 AM and it was only about 6 PM! They seem to be in some kind of hurry, maybe it was shift change, I don't know, I don't care. Terrible service however! No one refilled drinks, asked how we were doing, if we needed anything else, or even brought the check. We had to wave them down to remind them, customers were still seated! I'm an honest person... But I could've walked out of there without paying the bill, I really don't think they would've noticed, or even cared for that matter!! This is a wonderful little place in a nice little town. The food is good, they have very lengthy hours, and the people are friendly. They were wonderfully accommodating when we descended on them with 20+ people (without notice) for breakfast one Sunday early morning. We camp at Mossyrock Park about once a year. Finally got to Pioneer Bar and Grill for dinner. I ordered the Dam Burger, classic case of eyes bigger than stomach. About the best burger I ever had. My wife got the seafood platter, she kept bragging about the crust being perfect, and how well it was cooked and how good it tasted. Waitress was friendly, which considering how fast she was moving to get orders, was unexpected. Not sure how they make money with their low prices. We paid $30 for dinner for two, got good food, (more than) enough to eat, good service and somebody picked some great country songs to play on the jukebox. read more

With limited food options in Mossyrock, this is an A-OK place serving up your standard bar food. We opted for the famous "Best DAM Burger" and it is HUGE! They offer up daily specials with decent prices throughout the whole menu. A pitcher of beer only runs $7! They also serve liquor. Hamburger was fine, but it was it was pretty clear they don't necessarily want to see customers who are not locals. I walked up to the bar twice to get items and finally, after waiting and waiting, walked to the bar to get my bill which meant I was behind another couple doing the same thing. This is a typical small-town bar, where locals gather to share their lives. It's a slice of Americana. Their Dam Burger, probably named for two nearby reservoirs, is among the best that we've had. It's a 1/2-pound patty, with an assortment of toppings and a very nice bun that's better than those at chain burger joints. Our server said that the Deluxe Burger is the same, but smaller. However, she said that the Dam Burger is somehow better, and suggested that my wife and I split one. We followed her advice, and added two salads. Tables have a roll of paper towels, which is good, since the burger is somewhat messy to eat. The food menu is limited to typical bar food: burgers, pizza, fish & chips, and sandwiches, with a reasonable assortment of each. The food prep area is in a back room, but the grill is behind the bar, so you can watch your meal being prepared. The beer selection is typical, and includes four on tap. All four were specialty beers. I remember an IPA, Belgian Shock Top, and Irish Death. I chose the last one, and enjoyed it. Presumably, the generic American lagers (Bud, MGD, etc.) are limited to cans/bottles. This appears to be an all-ages establishment, though I would suggest checking in advance if you plan to bring any "miniature people" with you. The place is clean and well-organized. The music was a bit loud when we entered, but the server lowered the volume without our asking. Prices are very reasonable. Whenever we stay at the 1000 Trails resort (15-minute drive), Pioneer Bar and Grill is a mandatory visit for a great meal. read more

Food is great customer service sucks. I do recommend this dam burger. I can honestly say that every friend I brought in was pleased with the food but appalled at service and how unkempt the greasy staff is. So pay your money and take your chances. The brown shack Tavern is worse but that is like a comparison between Trump and hilarious Sodom Clanton. I choose the pioneer but wish someone would open a Bernie Sanders bar and grill. A good Dam burger. Large and in charger this burger is big and they don't cheat you on cheese and bacon. It is not the best food in the world, but if you are on the way along Route 12 it is a nice little stop for a big and inexpensive lunch. Families and children are welcome. read more

My friend even had to plunge the toilet and clean the floor after the toilet was clogged before she used it. No thank you or smiles from these young girls.
