We come mainly for brunch on Saturdays at 11:00 am (occasionally Friday or Sunday) and sit in a booth. Here about every 6 to 8 weeks and shocked I haven't written a review yet! Server / main front of house person always remembers us and is kind and super friendly, even when she's busy. It's a diner with reasonable prices - I've had the breakfast sandwich, corned beef hash, mix of Ala carte side options, main breakfast with meat, omelette or scramble... my dad usually gets the 55+ 2 egg Denver omelette and my brother will change it up, too. It's also kid friendly, if you want to bring a kiddo. Food is always good, I try to remember not to eat a first breakfast at home in the morning when we come out so I'm hungry. Just passing through and stopped for breakfast. It's a diner type ambiance, with a counter area, booths, and tables, decorated with bears, woodsy things, and local pictures/memorabilia. Our server was friendly and efficient. It looks like she was the only server, with just one cook manning the kitchen during this mid morning time. My husband got the logger breakfast, which was way too much food for one person! He enjoyed what he was able to eat. I ordered the mama's portion of chicken fried steak and it was huge as well. It was ok, although I've had better. The meat was tender and easy to cut. She was happy to offer to make me a side salad instead of the higher carb hash browns and toast, so I appreciated that. Ordered takeout after a disappointing experience in Packwood and my allergy restrictions. I asked for clam strips, and was served oysters. I hate oysters and it's the main amount of seafood on this plate. Highly disappointed that they got my order wrong, and that I have to pass another meal along to my kiddo. Do better. read more

My husband, little brother and I stopped her with my baby on our way back from a trip to the mountains. We were so hungry and this was the only place open on Christmas Eve, which we were very thankful for. Upon arrival, we were instantly greeted and seated. We ordered our food which we got in a reasonable time I'd say for there only being one waitress and one cook for the restaurant. It was pretty busy I'd say, there were about 4 tables with decent size parties. Overall, the gal was so kind, I could tell she was a little overwhelmed with the amount of people, but I don't blame her. She carried herself very well and never was rude. Me and the wife frequent this place mainly when we don't feel like driving to Chehalis or South Hill for lunch/dinner dates, as it's super close to our house. The food there is decently prepared but if they are busy be prepared for a fairly long wait time as the kitchen is super small and only one short order cook works there. It's kinda pricey as well but the wife and I aren't too worried about that because of the money we save in gas from the location being so close to our house. The ambiance is always warm and welcoming and all the servers know us by name and treat us really well. They also have a full bar, and a great beer list as well. We normally will play pull tabs at the bar while we wait for our food or watch what we sporting event they have on the television. 7/10 would probably recommend to anyone passing thru Morton. read more

We stopped by this place early morning on a Monday on our way out of Mt. Rainier. The breakfast was really quite incredible. Everything from the biscuits and gravy and country fried steak, to the cooking it the eggs and pancakes. The service was fast, quality, and kind. Stopped in for lunch on the way to our campsite near Randle, and was pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. The interior feels half dive bar, half diner, and combined, makes for a cozy country café experience. Our waitress was extremely friendly and sociable, if a little befuddled at times, and engaged our kids in conversation while taking our order. The cuisine is your typical classic American diner fare: burgers, breakfasts, sandwiches and hearty dinners. Our orders came swift out of the kitchen, and included three kids burger baskets, the bacon cheeseburger for me, and The Gobbler sandwich (a relatively new item on the menu, we were told) for my wife. Everything was hot, fresh, juicy and tasty, as they should be, and portion sizes were significant without being overwhelming. The ratio of quality to price was definitely on point here. A good sign for any restaurant is if the kids actually finish their meals, which they did; all three baskets were barren afterward. All of them were, actually. I don't think we left with a single left over to supplement our campground cuisine! Previously, Morton was never more than a blip on a map to me; a place to pass through on the way to other places. That changed after our experience at Papa Bears this last weekend. Next time we are in the vicinity, I suspect we'll be hitting the brakes, putting on the blinker, and heading to Papa Bears. read more

Not sure why this restaurant only gets 3.8 stars. Maybe dinner isn't as good as their breakfast. We stopped for breakfast as we were passing through. Made it just in time before they stopped serving breakfast at 11:30. The veggie egg scramble, biscuits and gravy and pancakes were all delicious. The pancakes were a massive serving. You get 4 huge thick pancakes and my teenager could only finish one pancake with a side of eggs. The service was fast and friendly. We will visit again. read more

Great service and friendly staff. The food is so-so. Country fried steak has a definite chew. I recommend they pass it through the tenderizer a few more times. The patty melt had a lot of potential. Alas, one of the slices of toasted bread was one degree away from burnt. I recommend they pull both slices of bread off the flat top much sooner. It may be time to change the oil in the deep fryer. I ordered the Captain's Platter, & the chock full of the freshest seafood, very lightly battered--& the clam strips are the best I've ever had! I enjoyed a Pear Cider with dinner, & it was perfect! Their coleslaw is very fresh, but I'd prefer it with a bit of dressing (which I grew up with in Indiana) to hold the components together. This is "the place the locals go", so don't expect "fancy"--expect being comfortable & enjoying great food & drinks! Families enjoy dining here--you simply can't go wrong! Service is friendly & fast! This is a amazing small town restaurant with a very homey vibe, amazing food, great service and a vast array of delicious foods on their menu. I got the Philly cheese steak with chicken but ended up with beef in my sandwich. Honestly though I have no complaints with my experience and loved this place, popping through on my trip. read more

We got the mozzarella sticks for apps and the menu mentioned there's pizza sauce that go with it and we were served ranch instead. Asked for sauce and they said they didn't have it. As a server myself, it's required to inform the customer what isn't being served with items and what isn't in stock, and instead, we would've chose something else. I got the fish and chips, it was decent but not for the price. And the steak, it had no taste and it was 30% fat. The overall service wasn't the best. It took maybe 15 minutes for someone to get to us. I understand when restaurants get busy and it takes a little while but there were two servers and it wasn't busy? read more

Traditional diner. The food and menu are exactly what you would expect. There was basically one thing on the menu my husband and I would eat so each got that (veggie burger). It was fine. Nothing exciting. Kids enjoyed their food as well although my daughter ordered a plain hamburger and received a cheeseburger. For once, she was hungry enough to eat it (she doesn't like cheese normally). Service was a bit slow, but very friendly. My husband wanted a pie slice, and they were almost out. Stopped in after a day of hiking at Mt Rainier, couldn't ask for anything more, a simple, locally owned restaurant that is a bar restaurant combo, there was 6 of us and we all got something different and all of us enjoyed our food. My wife and I were camping at Mossyrock Campground, and decided to try a restaurant in Morton for dinner. My wife got the Captain's Platter and I got a rib eye steak. My wife said everything she got was really good. She had warned the waitress that I am picky about my steak. The steak was great, cooked just how I asked, juicy, flavorful. Waitress was friendly, helpful. I am into trains, liked the train pictures on the wall (pictures of Felix Hernandez and Russel Wilson were noticed too). Music playing was oldies we both knew. Show up during Breakfast with large family and young hungry kids was told 20min wait end up waiting 40min and when we ask how much longer we are told not much longer but they will not serve you breakfast only Lunch. hostess was nice and goes and checks with manager an answer doesn't change. This very bad management there are not many restaurants that would deny servicing breakfast to a large family that been waiting almost an hour to be seated for breakfast. A friend told us to check out Papa Bears for lunch and they did not disappoint us! The staff was so friendly and the food was great with excellent prices! There were 4 of us and we all ordered different things that were delicious! Total hole in a wall place but I would definitely stop there on our way back from camping because the people are not judgmental! The only reason they get more than one star is because the waitress was very sweet and apologetic for the disaster that was our meal. They forgot half our order, and our nachos got messed up. We got a replacement nachos and it was maybe a tablespoon of cheese on plain chips, and it costed almost $10. The fried chicken was ice cold in the middle. There was almost no meat on the pulled pork sandwich. Onion rings super soggy. And the pie was just god awful, weird consistency and bad flavor (especially the banana cream which had no actual banana in it). This is all after we finished a 24 mile hike so it's not like we were at all picky. Mask compliance was questionable at best (under the nose on all staff almost the whole time, including when at our table). This seems to be a trend looking at past reviews, despite what the owner claims. read more

We had a big day ahead of during the 2017 West Coast Eclipse Journey. This day we were heading up the mountain. A hearty breakfast was critical fuel for the adventure ahead. We stepped into Papa Bear's and immediately knew we nailed it. We took a seat at the counter and ordered beers (hey, we're on vacation!) and looked over the menu. It was huge compared to the size of the kitchen. It took only a few moments to spot the Promised Land, a chili cheese omelette. I am a sucker for chili and cheese, so I closed the menu and looked no further. It lived up to my expectations and, in no time, I was fat and happy. I gave the cook two thumbs up when he stopped over to check on us. The servers working behind the counter were genuinely friendly and fun. We chatted with them throughout the meal and learned about their families and an upcoming move. They gave us great tips on where to pick up park passes to see the mountain and off we went. Love this place every time I come here every one has a smile on. The atmosphere is very cozy and comfortable. Waitresses are always happy to help and the food is amazing my favorite thing to have at papa bears is dessert. The owner always makes new handmade items and omg everything I've tried so far is delicious . I'll be back every time I visit this small town. Came in here at 530pm...its currently 630...still no food. We are sitting at our second table due to the first one being covered in sugar ants. I killed 7 before we moved to a booth. This is ridiculous!!! This is the WORST service I've had in years. 645 our meal came and my country fried steak was burnt to a char covered in gravy..nearly chipped a tooth. My husbands bacon burger had less flavor than an am -pm burger. The only positives were the hard to screw up baked potato and no charge for our drinks. They had new flamboyant waitstaff that had no idea what they were doing. Not going back!! Sad because we loved the breakfasts here. read more

Finally returned to Papa Bears after the last review, because they used to be great and I was dying for their Gobbler sandwich and hubs loves their roast beef and mashed potatoes with a side of Mac and cheese. The food was ON POINT, as was the staff. Thank goodness. We used to eat here 3-4 times a week and it's nice to know their quality is back up to snuff.
