I've been going to this dentist - specifically Sokolov - for over 20 years (yikes has it been that long??). Even though I've moved away I still come back here because these guys are the best around. Every other dentist I go to I feel like I'm going to the auto mechanic where they inevitably find SOMETHING wrong (usually a cavity). Or I just have to get the deep cleaning - a regular cleaning won't do (which of course is more expensive). Even though I now live two and a half hours away, I still come back to this office because I was unimpressed with the dentists in my area and felt they would just say anything to me to make a quick buck. I trust Sokolov because I feel that they're not money hungry and will just be honest with me about my teeth. I have teeth stains, and while the dentist does mention it, when I say "naaa I'm good" he doesn't pressure me. The hygienists are all great here too. You can trust these guys. Also, a sign of a good dentist is when it's hard to make a last minute appointment. And it is. Try to book stuff in advance because they fill up - and for good reason. read more

My husband and I have been patients of Sokolov and Piper Family Denistry for about 7 years now. I usually see Sandy for my dental hygienist. She is a very caring and thorough professional. Dr. Sokolov is my usual dentist although I've seen Dr. Piper on occasion and have been pleased with the treatment I received from both. Dr. Sokolov knows I have had a bad experience with a local dentist and goes the extra mile to make sure I am comfortable and not in pain. He takes his time and explains everything that he is going to do. He was able to save a tooth that I was sure was going to need to be extracted. The front office staff is very efficient and the environment is clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend their practice (and have!) to anyone looking for a family dentist in the Largo/Seminole area. read more

Had my first visit here today and am extremely satisfied. I was able to complete all of my new patient forms online in a few minutes, so all that I had to do once I got to the office was provide my name. No wait and they called me back within a few minutes of my appointment time. Rare these days! The office was very clean and comfortable. Every employee that I encountered during my visit was extremely friendly and professional, and I loved how Dr. Sokolov took the time to review my photos with me and talk through my options. This is the first dentist in FL that I've been to where they did not try to sell me anything, and I would have trusted them even if they had. Unable to schedule a timely appointment for treatment. Office is Just THAT Busy. That is Fantastic (for them). Unfortunately, I am of the opinion that my time is just as valuable as theirs, or @ the very least, my time be respected. Staff provides misleading and conflicting information. . Experienced a lack of concern for my best interest with no sense of urgency for treatment. Again, I am of the impression they are just THAT BUSY. Certainly feel I was overcharged for an examination for a problem that the office was fully aware they would not be able to treat until June or July. I do take responsibility for wanting to make the appointment in the first place. Unfortunately, I do not view the procedure necessary as "elective." A 25% deposit is required in advance to "reserve" an appointment for treatment. I will not be paying it. read more

My husband and I have been patients of Sokolov & Piper Family Dentistry for many years. Dr. Sokolov apparently left the practice, and it is now Piper Family Dentistry. I always went to Dr. Sokolov and my husband to Dr. Piper. After my experience, I would highly suggest you reconsider seeing Dr. Piper if you have any type of dental anxiety. I went there for my usual teeth cleaning by Sandy and discovered that Dr. Sokolov left. I couldn't believe it. She informed me they split way. She was very professional and commented they are both very skilled dentist but have totally different approaches in dentistry. Was she right! That should have been my first clue "different approaches." Before I scheduled my next visit, I did ask Sandy if he knew about my dental anxiety and she assured me they knew from my records. I mentioned to Sandy I would eventually like to look into straightening teeth and maybe down the road maybe looking into Invisalign. I finished with her and came back 2 days later at 8:00 a.m. for my filling with Dr. Piper. Dr. Piper comes in and as expected he began looking at my teeth and started talking immediately talking about Invisalign. (I get extremely nervous about new people, fillings and I had no idea what he was doing, using a drill, or just filling it, or what, I wanted to get my tooth done and over.) I was nervous and asked if we could please talk about it after the filling. He picked in the back of my teeth telling me my upper right back took had food in it and then said I have issues with that one he thought with decay. Then he brought up Invisalign again! I said again, "Can you please address that after we get this done?" He said, "We have to address it now if you want your teeth straightened, we need to do before the implants!" I said, "I know, but please can we discuss this after this filling is done" for the second time as I was very nervous. I could see he was pushing to sell me Invisalign and wanted to discuss it during the procedure. He then opened my way with fingers and stretched my mouth so far open not only did it hurt, he began spaying air on my tooth, which was over and over and it seemed like forever, but the more dry my mouth was getting, I felt I needed to swallow, and he would not let me swallow and I started to feel like I could not breathe. Then he snaps: "KEEP YOUR MOUTH OPEN!! KEEP YOUR MOUTH OPEN!!" He did not even explain to me what he was attempting to do. I panicked and he pulled his dental tools out of my mouth and said very loud, when I was struggling, moving my arm and legs, "WHAT IS WROING!" and I couldn't speak right way catching my breath... and he snapped again, "WHAT IS WRONG!" I was composing myself before I could speak as I was on the verge of tears and he seemed very annoyed rather than concerned. I was trying not to cry and I heard him walk out and snapped to us both: "I AM DONE!" and I heard him say to his assistant very agitated: "SHE IS NOT A GOOD FIT!" and left me on the chair. I was floored and asked her what that was about? She said, "I guess he feels you were not a good fit." I even asked after he left, did he finish or what? She seemed as shocked as I was. I never in my life had a dentist walk out on me. His office manager was so kind and escorted me to her office as I was clearly upset. I asked the office manager if I could please speak to him, but I was crying. She asked him but he refused to see me, and the office manager said, very professionally: "I think it is best you both do not talk now as we both needed to calm ourselves down." I agreed and waited for another 10 to 15 mins. in her office. I know I apologized to her -- as I do have dental anxiety and it was clearly stated in my chart since DAY 1. The receptionist got me water and everyone there was completely wonderful and professional but the Dentist would should be. I asked the office manager again if he would speak to me as I wanted to give him a chance, and she she said he moved on to another patient. Again, in disbelief, at this time it was a useless cause and walked out sobbing. Not only did Dr. Piper walk out on me, his unprofessional behavior and cowardly actions, made me never want to come back to that office ever again! Also, I wanted to mention, I politely asked the staff if they would please provide me the office where Dr. Sokolov's moved to? Dr. Sokolov offers totally PAIN-FREE dentistry and I can totally attest to this fact; as well, he seems to be a perfectionist with his work with is totally okay with me! I've had to have several crowns due to teeth fractured in an auto trauma and this dentist created and applied these to the teeth without flaw. Years later the crowns maintain their great tolerance and fit great. This dentist CARES! The dental hygienists are terrific - especially Susan [for me that is] and the others in the office are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. Give this dentist and his staff a try, okay?! Im new to the area and did my research, and there's a reason they have good ratings on health grades. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and kind. The place is clean and modern without being intimidating. They offer things, but aren't pushy. I was hesitant to get 2 fillings redone that aren't that old... concerned about an up-sell, but when I asked if they could show me why they felt the work was needed, they quickly and kindly put my mind at ease. It's a nice blend of what I think makes up a good office. AND while I was having a filling redone and my mouth was numb, the tech didn't make me feel bad for chomping on her finger. read more

I absolutely love this dentist office. Been going there for over 4 years. I have been petrified of the dentist for years and did everything I could to avoid going, almost to the detriment of my health. But I finally gave in and went and have been going back twice a year ever since. The office is a 5 star office in terms of cleanliness, layout, and design. The staff goes overboard to treat you nicely, with patience, and to accommodate your scheduling needs. Granted I've never had to schedule a last minute appointment for any issues so I can't speak to how well they would handle that. I even switched my children over to this office rather than continue them with a pediatric dentist. And they love this place. Even if my insurance didn't cover this place, I'd continue going there. Had my first visit with Dr Sokolov. I was treated with dignity and respect even when I told them I am an extreme dental coward. I went in with a bit of an emergency. They saw me as quickly as they could and got me an appointment with the surgery center for a tooth removal. That went smoothly. I felt they took advantage of me because I had good insurance. I was new to the area and referred by someone (who also left this practice). I felt at ease, but was presented with quite a treatment plan. I was okay with the work at first, but then after sitting in the chair for at least 2 hours more than once - with the dentist going from room to room; I began to question this. Then, like others have commented, the calls from the billing office started - demanding a credit card payment on the spot - even while I told her I was driving!! I would not pay. My explanation of benefits from my company said I did not have to pay for certain items that she was trying to get from me. They paid the reasonable and customary for most, while other charges they said were not to be paid. I went back to NJ for a couple of months, and saw my old dentist. I showed him the treatment plan, as well as the work already performed. He took new X-Rays, and confirmed that there was nothing wrong with teeth they wanted to fill or cap!!! Horrible experience !!!!!! I went in with a gum abscess, very swollen and puss . Dr Gapstur was very in professional. Terrible chair side manner. I live in Pinellas county and she wanted to send me to a periodontist in Tampa, when I explained to her I didn't want to go that far , she had such a nasty attitude with me. Told me " Well that's who I recommend!" Didn't offer to clean the effected area in my mouth or give me antibiotics for the swelling or puss, got mad when I asked for antibiotics and said to me do you want a long term solution or just short term. When I insisted to get antibiotics for the swelling and infection, she gave me a script for Amoxicillin 500mg take 1 every 8 hours for pain. I didn't notice it until I got to my pharmacy and had to call the office for them to correct her mistake, than they told me it should say until finished. Well I spoke to several different dentist and that is the incorrect dosage. I believe she purposely gave me wrong dosage because I didn't want to go to Tampa to see the who she wanted me to see. Come to find out that was her husband in Tampa. read more

they do shoddy work as well....all the work I've had done there over the years and now have tons of re-do's.....shame. both are extremely nice and funny - they are over booked and staff not that great at booking appts. Know a few people that used to go there and are suffering the same problems....all their caps have caused more problems from not being fitted properly in the first place. I need to find a new dentist, but don't want to get ripped off. Was going to someone good, but I just can't afford them even with the dental insurance. Ugh read more

This place started off great. We were a new family to the area and they were well recommended. The first visit seemed to go well but then when the doctor came in with the sales pitch about purchasing products, I should have known. We sent several friends here as well as our entire family. Interesting Each one had the same sales pitch due to excessive wear at night. Things were fine as we went but then noticed a few things. Our children would go back alone for their visits. Which is fine. But the doctor would never come out to tell us if there were any issues. We had to ask the hygienist what the doctor said. Thought this was rather impersonal. 4 visits. We never once saw the doctor to discuss the kids teeth. Then came the unnecessary procedure applied during our visits that we were told ware covered. Once it was determined they were not. The nasty phone calls started to come from the office. My wife went in with the kids and the front desk lady calls her out like some bill collector in a harassing way. Meanwhile there were patients in the waiting room. Very rude and not hippa compliant. The calls continued and were very condescending. We protested the charges and they dig their heels in insisting that we pay them. I asked for the doctor to call us three times. He never did. We moved our care elsewhere. I guess there was no concern to lose 4 patients from them. There are plenty of dentists in the area. I would choose another. read more

Nice office, but then you are paying for it. This practice leans heavily on cosmetic dentistry to bring in the real dollars. Routine cleaning etc, are just loss leaders. Expect them to find a problem "under the hood" in short order that will require more than just a filling replaced. In my case, it was the very first visit It was brought up again on my subsequent ones. Funny how all my previous dentists whom I went to for years didn't call this out. The doctors and hygienists are seemingly extremely competent and employ a positive patient bed side manner. However the nightmare of dealing with front office and appointment issues caused me to leave this practice. They had no way of knowing if I had made or broken an appointment and I was called/reminded of appointments that I didn't have. I was in a practice that these two DRs bought out. I immediately noticed the difference in the office and the push for extras like teeth whitening and xrays way too often. I refused the teeth whitening time and time again and they would bring one of the Drs in to "talk to me" about it. I was just not interested. I once called to make an appointment and I was told that I had to have a 730am apt because I needed xrays. I explained I was not interested in xrays and the girl tells me it is Florida Law I have to get them. I ask her to provide me with the statute number - she can't. I ask for the office manager or the Dr and she says they will call me back. They dont'. I had to post on facebook directly to the DR to get a response which was rude - saying I was not pleasant. Of course I was not pleasant, your office staff was lying to me about the law trying to make a profit on me by shooting me with harmful things that are unnecessary. My next visit I was told by Dr Piper that I get xrays or leave his practice. NOW they are refusing to release my medical records to my next dentist. I have had to file a complaint with the Florida Department of Health to get my dental records. Very unprofessional to say the least. read more
