Jody, Keith, and all the horses (even Spike, who was kind of a pill) were a real pleasure to interact with during our visit. The ride itself was a delight. Sure, I was sore afterward, but that's to be expected. Consider going to any of Montana's hot springs to recover afterward. If you're visiting in the summer, I do suggest scheduling a ride in the morning, as it's never too hot at 9AM.

The rooms were clean and inviting and had multiple living spaces which was great for a large group! I was absolutely blown away with this magnificent experience! We hiked about a mile up to the cavern entrance. It was a steady incline and almost all in the sun, so come prepared for that. Sunscreen and a water bottle would be wise. By the time you get to the top, you're pretty toasty warm-and then you can cool off in the cold, dark cave. The cave/cavern (what's the difference?) is truly remarkable. Nature can be awe inspiring and what you see inside this mountain is a perfect example of nature's masterpiece. Be respectful and don't touch anything you're not supposed to touch. This isn't a horribly physical excursion, although there's a good amount of stairs, narrow spaces and even one area where you slide down on your bum. People who have any mobility limitations might struggle with this one-although I did overhear that there's an alternate tour for folks who might need accommodations, so ask about that. This was likely my favorite part of the road trip-even more memorable than Yellowstone! (Sssshhhh, don't get me in trouble for saying that.)

You do have to pay an $8 entry fee when you arrive if your car doesn't have Montana plates, which our rental car did not. We ate at the restaurant and shopped at the gift shop. We each got a sweatshirt because we were told the caverns would be cold. It was kind of weird though because it was so hot outside while we were there! We did the Paradise tour which didn't require a lot of walking. Our guide was great and we really enjoyed exploring the cavern. It was quite chilly inside, which was a nice switch from outside. Unfortunately for me from outta town and on the road all day all week with many destinations on my list, I couldn't know well beforehand when I'd make it in time. So, I had to wait until I'm within ~4-8hr of this park before I can decide I'll be able to join a tour. But by then, all the spots are filled. The tours here are popular, even with MT's avg population density of 7 p/mi^2. . Yes, this park also has hiking trails, but because there are more flagship or exotic hikes elsewhere (nearby), like Ringing Rocks, I don't come here for general hiking as part of my vacation. . The drive up to the higher 2nd VC is pleasant with one vista. + The view there's nice and serene, . but not unique if you're on a mission for many unique views throughout the Mt West like Shoshone Falls and Berkeley Pit. + Polite, helpful staff. + Water and restrooms at both VC's. + Wasn't sure where I had to pay the entrance fee ;) Moral of the story: if you're committed to snagging a spot on one of the tours, gotta commit to this destination in advance and reduce distractions/other attractions, or have more time.

This is not well marked (the one park sign is easy to miss). But the busybodies will call animal control on you for walking an on-leash, quiet, well-behaved dog (instead of helpfully talking to you directly to inform you of the rule).
