Especially since anytime needles are involved I have a tendency to pass out. I have always had great dentists and I think that is part of why I have enjoyed going to the dentist, but at Mass Ave Family Dentistry you are not just getting a fantastic dentist--you are also getting a great team that works well together. Once I informed the dental hygienist, Amanda that I could pass out I was amazed at the extra steps that they took to ensure for both my safety and comfort. Shannon, who was shadowing for the day, and Amanda both did a fantastic job of keeping me talking and making sure that I was feeling ok. Dr.So and Amanda did an amazing job on my filling, it is not noticeable at all and has not changed my bite or smile. I also needed to get part of my permanent retainer fixed and I appreciated that Dr.So and the receptionists let me know that it would likely be cheaper to get it done at my orthodontist's. I think it says a lot about the quality of healthcare professionals when a healthcare office lets you know that there might be cheaper alternatives for the same work! In the end, I decided to get my retainer fixed by Dr.So and Amanda instead of traveling to get it fixed at my orthodontist's office. My retainer has never felt so unnoticeable, once again I really cannot say how amazing the work they did for me was!

He talked to me like I was a child making snide remarks about how I couldn't bother to listen to him saying it doesn't matter what I want to hear and how I rolled my eyes at him. Which, yes. I did because I had no choice. He sat there and talked at me so defensively and unprofessionally. He did not respect or understand my needs or concerns. Somehow we were derailed so I even said to him, in an attempt to clear the air, that I wasn't trying to disrespect him but I just wasn't interested in talking about night guards, to which he made another snide remark about not listening to him and how I rolled my eyes. I'm not sure why he had to have such a strong and angry attitude towards my disinterest in a nightguard, but it was enough that I had no faith or trust in him or his office. Of course, this set me back $300 as I had to start over at a new dental office, which was worth it as I was treated with respect as a patient. Dr. Xu is always helpful and friendly. She has another office in Carmel alongside this downtown location, so I believe each location is only open a few days out of the week. I never have an issue getting my appointment and they seem to keep their schedule open enough to accommodate for any last minute changes. I find that they are good about taking insurance and anything not covered is cheaper than what I've heard of other dentists. For example, I had to get a night guard for my teeth which cost me $150, while these can often cost $400. I think the only thing that might make this office not ideal is that there's more open space so you can hear what goes on around you in other rooms. This doesn't bother me at all but I know some folks prefer a more quiet space.

Although, we have given this dentist office years of support, they do not care about customer loyalty or customer service. I recommend better customer service, a customer care line, office manager, or the office record calls if no one is willing to accept constructive criticism or have difficult conversations. These could all be good strategic/measurement tools to use to prevent bad customer service and present bad customer service if it continues. Remember who you have on the frontline of your business is the most important because they represent you. Before the appointment, I spoke with the doctor about modifying one of the procedures to better accommodate my son's needs. She was incredibly understanding and assured me that they could absolutely make that adjustment. Unfortunately, the first hygienist was unable to complete the procedure, and another hygienist made me feel as though the accommodation I was requesting was unreasonable and that I was causing my son unnecessary stress. As his mother, I know my child's needs, triggers, and limitations better than anyone, so those comments felt dismissive and insulting. Thankfully, Kacey stepped in. She had worked with my son before and immediately approached the situation with patience, compassion, and understanding. She took the time to meet him where he was, handled him with such care, and successfully completed the procedure without adding to his anxiety. Most importantly, she treated both my son and me with respect. As a parent of a child with special needs, finding healthcare professionals who are willing to listen, adapt, and provide individualized care means everything.
