The architecture is cool, the restaurant is huge with 2 levels plus a pool area (which has a stage for music sometimes) and from our experience this is the best sit-down restaurant on Dauphin Island (admittedly a low bar). Seafood definitely seems fresh and local, my wife loved her grilled shrimp po-boy and I got a seafood platter with fried shrimp, fish, and oysters that were perfectly seasoned and tasty. We were very happy with everything, and liked that the shrimp were peeled & deveined which we prefer but was unusual to find when we lived in New Orleans. Service was good, drink options sufficient, and the top level has a pretty good view even if you're not seated on the window. We typically cook on Dauphin Island for various reasons including usually travelling with a dog, but Pirates is a gem definitely worth visiting on any visit to Dauphin Island. Bravo! read more

Likely our last visit for a while as we move our boat up to Fairhope next week. We arrived on a friday at 5:45, the wait was 35 minutes. Imho, they were seating faster than each waitress could keep up and it affected our service for sure. They were slammed, so I left the 4th star. We ordered eveything at once as we were there a while before our waitress Tanya made it over. Beer / wine, gumbo, fried fish dinner with baked potato and fried okra, she had the ahi tuna with sauteed spinach. We finished with cheesecake and a berry sauce. Everything was tasty, I had a fish filet and enough okra for another meal. The view, makes this place, the building architecture, if you like that, I do, and the food is consistently tasty. Gorgeous views of the Gulf in a mid century gem! We stopped in for lunch and were warmly greeted right away. We were seated upstairs and treated to incredible views of the gulf and beach. Erika was our server and she was as sweet as sugar. Pleasant and friendly and offered us suggestions on what to order. We both went with the oyster po' boys and had them blackened. Our meals came two sides and we both picked the turnip greens and fried okra. When in Rome.... Everything was delicious! We came on a Saturday night around 530-6, they were down a couple of servers so we had a little over a hour wait. We didn't mind because we were able to see the sunset while we waited. They have several tvs if you go during football season. Food was excellent- my only suggestion would be to have homemade salad dressings. I was brought a packet of hidden valley ranch dressing. Stop by and had a sit down lunch at the bar. Front and bar Staff were super friendly and helpful. They don't offer draft at the bar but have plenty of bottles. Other wait staff seemed rushed and aloof. I wasn't sure about them. lol I ordered lunch and then a meal to-go. Lunch was less food than I expected for the price but was full just the same. The to-go was for the teen. He appreciated the packaging and ate it without words lol. If you're in the area after the parades, stop over for lunch.... Great place to grab a dinner! Good food and excellent service. We ate upstairs and I'm sure the view would have been great if it wasn't dark out by the time we were there. Our server, Tanya, was friendly and was happy to answer all of our questions. Food wise everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the CREOLE ROYAL RED SAUTEE which was very good. So glad we came in. Architecture was super cool, and the views! Those views are 5-star for sure. Stopped in after standard lunch time, so it wasn't super busy. Staff was polite and quick to serve us. Ordered the Thai chilli shrimp appetizer and it was tasty with a nice heat to it. We all ordered the lunch baskets and the shrimp and fish were hot, fresh, and cooked perfectly. There was a small issue with one of our orders but they fixed it super quickly. Only downer was they were out of the adult tshirts. We'll just have to come back when they restock. read more

We came on a Monday evening around 6:30. The place was practically empty with 3 people at the bar and another couple at a table. We were seated promptly and the waitress was friendly and attentive. My husband and I ordered from their specialties. He had the flounder pontchartrain and I had the creole red sauté. The creole red sauté was very salty and greasy. The vegetables were over cooked and they must have used frozen not fresh. No flavor except lots of salt. Sausage was not Cajun or Louisiana style but tasted like Hillshire Farms. My husband's flounder dish was better but nothing special. Read the other comments before deciding to spend your money on a greasy salty dish or at best mediocre. read more

I am going to be honest and say that this place gets the customers that is does because of the location and that there are not many food options on the island to sit down and with a view. We asked for a view and the hostess sat us next to the dumpsters. It was a good laugh. Speaking of a view one of the waitresses also had her backside hanging out of a pair of too small shorts and it was clear that other tables were noticing, looking, and talking about it. The menu is priced decently, but the food for us was nothing memorable. The crab cakes were extremely soft and without the mustard sauce no flavor would be detected. The fish had zero flavor to the batter and the hush puppies were hard as a rock. My fries were both cold and warm which was concerning. The coleslaw was so finely shredded and soft it also wasn't for me. Overall, this place lacks flavor in their food and not a place I would visit twice. read more

We visited in the third week of October '25 as we took the Ferry over from Fort Morgan. Enjoyed our lunch and the views very much. We had a table on the window and had great views of the beach and ocean. Staff were friendly and gave us great service! Thank you! We tried the fried shrimp with fries and coleslaw. Very good. Our daughter tried the burger with cheese and fries. She enjoyed hers also. My husband had fish and fries and coleslaw. He also enjoyed his meal. For the time we had to visit - the food was good - staff did a good job and the views were great! Would recommend if you are visiting here. What a stunning view over looking the "Pelican passage" Bay Area! The building is unique in its infrastructure; we were seated in the upper area with a gorgeous view and full bar. The staff weren't the friendliest, but the service was very quick. I ordered the Luau Burger, and man, it was soooooo juicy and good! Their garlic green beans and loaded potato salad were delicious. Twenty of us from the Armed Forces Retirement Home had lunch at the Pirate's Bar and Grill today. I had a great Caesar salad with shrimp. Everyone I talked to enjoyed their meal. I believe most of them had one kind of fish or another. I met the manager before we went in. He was pleased to see us. We felt very welcome. We had a few really good meals on the Island while on vacation and Pirate's Bar and Grill was the best. It was a weeknight and relatively early (5:30 or 6) but it was apparently a less busy time for them as the ferries were closed due to high winds that day. Still, a line of folks lined up and a wait time over an hour so we opted to sit at the bar. We started with the blue crab and conecuh spinach dip and it was fantastic. Served with warm, freshly baked pita chips this creamy dip was topped with a hard case cheese topping that resembled creme brulee. Each bit was delicious. I had the Flounder Ponchartrain which looked to me like the best thing on the menu---and I suspect it is b/c it was fantastic. Lightly battered flounder, a creamy sauce with blackened shrimp. A side of turnip greens and surprisingly fresh/crispy onion rings (noticeably frozen ones tend to spew the onion out on first bite, these did not). My wife kept it simple with a pirate burger, but said it was the juiciest hamburger she's had in quite some time. A huge patty, and I snuck a bite and concur. She really dug the mac'n'cheese as a side, super creamy. Service was friendly. The bartender seemed to be very busy as there were folks around the pool and all throughout the restaurant drinking, so though I could have used a refill of my tea and he never asked, no real complaints on my end as it was evident he had his hands full. Note--seems to have decent beer and drink specials, but every bar on the island has a sign that says drinks only contain 1.25 oz of alcohol...that's less than a shot. Not sure if it's a law or what, but I'd stick to beer if you're drinking out. read more

I really enjoyed my family dinner here. We generally only go out once a vacation because of how big our family is and we were not disappointed with this decision. I had the grilled shrimp meal with okra and a side salad. Each part was very well made. The service was slightly slow but very kind lady. Portions are huge and the ambiance is great. Perfect views of the beach and water. We heard of this place from the nearby golf course manager (I will review that course as well). The only complaint I had was my mom's steak was very undercooked, but they entirely comped it from the meal. I would 100% return again. read more

Super cool place, great food and incredible views. We took a group motorcycle ride to Dauphin Island with friends and decided to take a chance on this place. I'm so glad we did! The building was a bit "aged" but it had a cool, fun beach vibe that we enjoyed. The parking was gravel but solid, so we didn't have any issues parking the bikes. We had a group of 9, so we had to wait a bit to get a table, but it wasn't bad. The service was good and the food was delicious. As far as the beach : before pool etc opened went to beach and only One tiny space of sand, rest was grass beach. Tons of kids shortly took over and all of them followed to the pool when it opened. Terrible drinks at pool and must have shirt on if you want to go to the restaurant bar even if your bathing suit top is as much coverage as a tank top. Food was like concession stand food. Right off the bat I will say this place gets 3 stars because the food was amazing and our waitress went above and beyond to take care of this. However, we arrived with a big part and were told 60-90 minutes for a wait. We send no big deal and got some drinks. During our eventual 2 hour wait, we noticed several 6 and 7 tops come in after us and get seated long before us. At the 90 minute mark our kids started getting unruly so we went and asked and they said we were next to be seated and they were currently making our table. Half hour later and the kids had lost all patience so we asked how long it takes to make a table. The host told us we had to wait to ensure the kitchen was not getting behind. So we said we were leaving because even if we got sat that it would take a while to get our food. Our waitress stepped in and said don't worry she has us. She immediately got the kids meals in and got them out nearly immediately. We ended up getting the seafood platter and it was absolutely delicious. All the food our group got was fantastic. However, this place needs more training for hosts and management was nowhere to be seen to rectify this situation. read more

Overall my group had a great evening and meal at this restaurant. I will warn though, even for a Tuesday night, we still had a 45 minute wait for a group of 3 when we arrived at 5:45 pm. Makes sense for being the best (and one of the few) places on the island, but still plan ahead when choosing to dine here. To start, we had bushwhackers from the bar while waiting for our table. They were amazing! Also pro tip: order these from the bar, as we paid 22 for two rather than 27 if we ordered at a table (from the menu). Once seated, our waitress was there quickly and got our drinks. She returned not long after to take dinner orders, which didn't take long given how busy the place was. I personally ordered the mahi tacos with coleslaw and onion rings. I also ate the hush puppies from my partners plate, as he didn't want his. Overall the sides were great. The onions rings were fantastic and the coleslaw was so refreshing. My tacos themselves were okay. The mahi was overcooked and over seasoned. The hush puppies also weren't the best I've ever had, but definitely Weren't bad. I still would come back and eat them. The others in my group ordered the fried fish dinner, which was large and tasty (and went great with their seasoned fries). Their only complaints were about the tartar sauce, which was not to their liking. If you're on the island, I would definitely recommend the visit! While some things could be improved upon, they are still obviously the best for a reason! read more

Had lunch here during a visit to the island. Very good, attentive service, the food good but not outstanding, a few of my raw oysters for example were fresh but the shucker really mangled them. I had issues with the po boy I had, their idea of "dressed" is seriously understated and the bread used for it was at best ok, and its face it the bread always makes the sandwich. FYI for any visitors, the upstairs has a much nicer view and there is ever outdoor patio seating which also has a very nice view. We ate downstairs and as a bonus there was a plague of houseflies that attended up during our meal. Lastly, a good place for lunch, but not so much for dinner unless your just drinking and need something to go with it. read more

This was a great place. We were confused what part of Pirates we wanted to go to, but the hostess showed us our options and we chose the upstairs bar! The bar tender Bree was so sweet and knowledgeable, she was such a natural. We shared the sweet and spicy wings and the western burger with fries and loaded baked potato salad as sides. Great portion and really yummy! Highly recommend extra fries! Even the guests that posted up next to us at the bar were so enjoyable! Whereas the wait was rather long, the food was quite good. The atmosphere of the restaurant was 1970's "fried fish-house" chic but still, well-done. The service was top-notch and the food was plentiful and well-prepared. I went to the bar while I waited to be seated to grab a Bloody Mary and it was mediocre at best. The live "music" was ear-splitting caterwauling that made my eyes bleed and made dogs in the vicinity howl at the moon. I don't know who this dude was who was singing but there was NOBODY down there at the bar listening to him. It was on the high side of sad and I kinda felt sorry for him. There were dozens of people waiting to be seated and NONE of them were down at the little amphitheater listening to him. Overall, not a bad place to eat. Parking can be a pain in the rump. read more

I read good reviews of this place and not sure if we hit them on a bad day, but the food was not good. The onion rings were chewy and the fish tacos were basic at best. The oysters in the basket were undercooked because there was too much batter on them. The meal was reasonably priced, one basket and fish tacos with 2 drinks and an appetizer of onion rings and the waitress was very attentive no complaints there. The restaurant was filthy the door coming in was grimy and the female restroom had gross body fluids and graffiti all over and half the tiles on the wall were missing. I would not recommend this restaurant unless there was no other place to go, even Wendy's has better tasting food than this place. read more

Come for the pool, stay for the drinks! We came here on our trip to Dauphin Island. This is like a bar/country club with a golf course. It's $10 admission for the pool. There were a lot of people so it seems popular. Their showers were a little alarming. One set really needed to be cleaned, I was scared to even use it to rinse off afterwards so I showered as soon as I got back to the house I was staying at. Their strawberry daiquiri was delicious and just picture perfect. They don't skimp on the whipped cream at all. The Bushwhacker has a banana flavor I really liked and was a nice surprise. read more
