It was my wife's birthday, and thus she had the privilege to choose where we would go for brunch. I had previously decided that I would not dine at this restaurant again, not because I had some gripe about the food, which was excellent, but because their table arrangement in the main dinning area made it difficult for wheelchair bound customers, such as myself, to navigate. This was not a hard and solid decision on my part. Instead I had decided that if I had my druthers, I would not eat there. Of course when it is my babécita's birthday my druthers were of no consideration and I found myself again at Tamara's for a Saturday brunch. We arrived to find the main dinning area to be full, and since we didn't feel like eating in the open to the outside area, we learned that we had an estimated 20-30 minutes wait for a table. Their was six to eight customers waiting around the hostess's stand inside, with another six waiting outside under a covered area. We decided to wait outside, but after about 15 minutes a rain shower began. The kind people waiting on the benches and standing under the awning encouraged us to move in further from the edge where they we were getting wet. A couple standing moved into the restaurant to make even more room for us. The hostess, seeing that it was raining outside when this couple opened the door, came to the door and invited us all in, announcing that she would make room for us all. Which she promptly did. My wife had informed the hostess of my needs, and had requested a corner table for ease of access, but once inside the restaurant, I noticed that the table arrangement seemed less crowded, which helped to ease my concerns about getting to a table. As it happened, right at the 20 minute mark, we were informed that our table was ready, and we were led to a table, not on a corner, but to a table at the end of a row of tables, and against a partition. I found this arrangement even better than our requested corner table, as it meant that I had no foot traffic behind me that I might inadvertently bump into, or bump into me. I was grateful for the evidently experienced hostess working out such a fine alternative to our request, and doing it in such a timely manner. Now I get to the food, and wait staff service. All I can say is that Tamara's management has both pegged to the highest degree. Our waiter appeared immediately, took our orders since we had perused the menu while we were waiting to be seated. As for our food, my birthday girl had the Spinach Eggs Benedict, and I had the Fried Chicken and Waffles. Both were excellent. Neither of us had a single complaint, and my wife, who is fascinated with Tamara's long list of various types of Eggs Benedicts, promised that we will be back for many more visits to try each one. I am grateful that I was forced to forego my pledge not to patronize this establishment again, as it provided an opportunity to learn how the good people at Tamara's made adjustments that allowed my experience to be enjoyed more fully. I am also grateful in that we can continue to enjoy their excellent food. read more

We celebrated one of my birthday dinners at Tamara's, and the food definitely lived up to the hype. I had the Shrimp & Cheese Grits with Conecuh sausage and a fried green tomato, and it was excellent. The piña colada was delicious, and they brought me a blueberry crème brûlée for my birthday that was amazing. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals, and everything was beautifully presented. The only downside was the host. He came across as extremely rude and impatient, which was not a great first impression. Thankfully, the rest of the experience was much better. We dined at Tamara's Downtown on April 12, 2026, around 5:10 PM, and overall I'd describe the experience as good, not great. First off, the ambiance is very nice--comfortable, welcoming, and a great setting for a casual evening out. The service was also very good. Our server was attentive and friendly, which definitely made a positive impression. As for the food: * Raw oysters ($22): Fresh, plump, and overall very good quality. That said, it almost felt like each oyster had a bit of added salt, which threw me off a little. Not bad, just slightly off from what I'd expect. * Sushi-grade ahi tuna appetizer ($14): This was one of the highlights--very good flavor and nicely prepared. * Gumbo (large - $12): Probably the biggest disappointment. I'd rate it about a 5/10. It wasn't terrible, but it lacked depth and richness compared to what you'd expect in this region. * Happy hour mimosa ($3) and margarita ($6): Solid for the price--no complaints there. Total came out to about $62 cash ($64.30 with card fee), which feels reasonable for what we ordered. Overall, this is a place I'd come back to if I were already in the area and someone suggested it, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way for. If I did return, it would likely be for the oysters or the ahi tuna. Good experience, just not quite memorable enough to push it past three stars. read more

This is one of the BEST restaurants in all of Alabama! They have fantastic service and good food at Tamara's Downtown. This is the ONLY spot out of the legion I've been to in Alabama that actually serves what folks from Louisiana would call gumbo and I was so happy to finally be able to enjoy a good actual gumbo instead of the icky Alabama soup all the other places serve. The ambiance here is really fantastic and they have a beautiful bar here as well. They make some of the best burgers I've ever had and I've had a LOT of great burgers along with way too many blah one. They have an amazing selection of beautiful desserts that make it VERY hard to choose which one you need to order. I've eaten at a LOT of spots in Lower Alabama and so far this one is at the top of the list. read more

Our last visit as we are moving back to Georgia. On a Saturday at 5:15 pm the service by Jamey was very good all night. We ordered drinks, followed by the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, it was very tasty, great flavor and textures with the breading and the crab on top was a very nice touch. Next she had crab cakes entree and I had the grouper. The grouper was cooked perfectly the panko crust was tasty. The gouda potatoes and spinach was a nice compliment to the grouper. Her crabcakes were tasty and she enjoyed them. We have had many enjoyable meals here during our 18 months in the area. read more

My wife and I had brunch on Saturday morning. We got there just before they opened and stood outside with 2 other groups of people waiting to get in. By the time we left, the place was packed. Prince was our waiter and he did an excellent job. I had the Chicken & Waffles with a side of Bacon and Gouda Grits and the Bloody Mary Bar. My wife had the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict and a Mimosa. So... we were getting a few bottles of water and some other things at a local CVS, and after talking to an employee there, was given the recommendation to visit Tamaras. She raved about this place, so took her up on the recommendation and tried it a few hours later for an early dinner. The lightly panko fried fish with gouda mashed potatoes with Béarnaise sauce... was so incredibly tasty, i had to pause between each bite to appreciate what was placed in front of me. Wife loved her Caesar salad with added chicken and sweet potato sides and had to ask how they got the sweet potato fries to taste so delicious! We ate here twice last weekend. Friday night was very busy but the staff kept up pretty well. ( line at the door busy).I had a Martini that was perfect and my wife tried a couple of specialty drinks she liked. There is a great happy hour from 3-5:30( memory here). Bottle beer was $3.00 and apps were ony $6.00. I had the Tuna and she had the Salmon for dinner . Both were perfectly cooked and delicious. My only criticism was the Risotto.....slightly overcooked but still tasty. The next night we came in after a wedding and sat at the bar. Quick and friendly bar staff. I had fried shrimp and she had a grilled shrimp salad. I am from the Mississippi Gulf coast and very picky about my shrimp cook and these were great. I had out-of-town visitors that wanted to try a variety of seafood. Tamara's has a great variety of food and even happy hour drinks. We all had something a little different, but we were all very pleased with our entrées. We started off with raw oysters and oysters Rockefeller that were amazing. I had the seafood platter that was cooked to perfection and so much food that I had to take half of it home. The special was a triple tail fish that not only tasted delicious but looked as good as it tasted. Two of the entrées came with the Gouda mashed potatoes and you couldn't beat the flavor. My husband surprised me by taking me to Tamaras for our anniversary. Although he does not enjoy bougie atmospheres or food, he knew I wanted to try this place, so he took me. Listen, when I say the meal was excellent, it is not based only on my opinion but also on my husband's. We ordered the Brussels sprouts for an appetizer, and the feta with pickled red onions tickled our tongues. The taste was devouring I ordered the pesto salmon, and wow, it was cooked perfectly. The rice with the bite of salmon was impeccable--truly fantastic. My husband ordered the burger, and he said it was delicious. Like I said, he doesn't do "fancy bougie," but he noted that this restaurant is still high-quality, but without the snooty. He also said they made the old-fashioned correctly, and he is an old-fashioned consiongor. We will be back and truly enjoyed our anniversary dinner; our server was fantastic. Oof. Came here for the recommended happy hour. We were visiting in town and some folks told us about this place being a staple in town. Upon looking at the photos we decided to try it out. They advertise outdoor dining on the Google photos and we were disappointed to find out they don't have it. We sat at the bar, couldn't get service for about 15 minutes. Bartender was too busy talking to another guest, completely ignored us. Then who appeared to be maybe a manager came behind the bar and got our drinks. Then we never saw her again. We were going to order food but while sitting at the bar a roach crawled across my arm. We paid the bill and left. I cannot believe this place is remotely recommended by anyone. The mirrors behind the bar have a layer of thick dust as well so they obviously don't clean. Wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

If I had to pick one thing that wasn't my favorite, it would be the French onion soup--it just didn't quite hit the mark for me. On the bright side, the mimosa was perfectly strong, the rest of the food was incredible, and the service was top-notch. The staff was attentive and friendly, making the experience even better. The atmosphere is a little more upscale but not at all pretentious, which we really appreciated. It's a great spot for a nice meal without feeling overly formal. My wife and I were in Fairhope for an overnight stay and enjoyed our time here immensely and ONE of the reasons our stay was, and will be, so memorable is the meal we had tonight at Tamara's. It was just a wonderful culinary experience from beginning to end. From the moment we walked in we loved the the ambience, the lighting, the intimate feeling at the tables. Our server was Faith and she was simply terrific - friendly, knowledgeable and professional. She's an asset to this place. And then the meal began and it was ON. The appetizer was Roasted Brussels with goat cheese bacon and balsamic and it was DELICIOUS. That could have been a meal. That paired wonderfully with a Lavender Martini. For our mains we had Rack of lamb with mint jelly, potato gnocchi, spinach, crimini mushrooms and heirloom tomatoes. It was an absolute symphony of flavors. Our other main was Blackened mahi mahi over Gouda mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach, heirloom tomatoes, with garlic Parmesan sauce. What do I love about Tamara's? Brunch, with more than a dozen choices of Benedict's (and the bloody mary's), that it's open on Mondays!! That it serves lunch and dinner, and has an amazing menu. I was told that the building was previously an auto garage , and was renovated into its unique and charming exterior/interior by the savvy owners that knew Fairhope needed a great dinner place. Always crowded when I've been there, my friends and me have always found a few places to sit at the 20 foot (?) bar, where a gracious bartender is always ready to serve you drinks, appetizers, or your meal, right there. The range of choices is amazing, and a few times I've ordered three appetizers (along with a glass of wine-large selection), like a cup of gumbo, the ahi tuna, and a wedge salad. Or avocado fries, crab cakes and a spinach salad. Whatever you order, you'll be more than happy with your choice. My friends and me make it a point to eat at Tamara's when in Fairhope. read more
