This place is absolutely fantastic. Everything always tastes really fresh, including their salsa. My family gets burnt out on fried seafood and pizza on the island so Miguel's is ALWAYS a hit. While I can go on and on about the food, the staff and owners really care about their customers. Spent a little time on the island and had lunch here. Simple chicken nachos could have been better with more cilantro. The cheese was awful. They watered it down. ?! Why??! See the puddle in the picture. Not worth the $10 if they were going to mess it up by drizzling it with cheese-colored water. My kids were fine with their quesadillas and had BBY gives his fish tacos a 3/5. Service happened, nothing particularly extra. Amazing food! The shrimp quesadillas is the best I have ever eaten. The shrimp was fresh and full of flavor and the white cheese is a perfect pairing. The burritos are huge. It's a bit non-descript and can be difficult to notice, but food options on the island are limited and who doesn't like a burrito? It's takeout only, and the people are friendly but I find the burritos to be consistently over-salted. On one visit we threw away at least half a burrito because it was practically inedible - and my wife actually has a high salt tolerance so when she agrees that something is overly salty that's unusual. A lot of people like it here which tells me that the quality must vary, but that's not exactly a good feature for a restaurant. My experiences won't lead me back here, everything can be a bit hit-or-miss on Dauphin Island but for me Miguel's Beach 'n Baja has sadly been a miss. read more

There is nothing Baja or Mexican style about this place. The idea is great but the food doesn't match the vibe.

It's the blue building FYI -- don't go to the cyan building with the white door as shown in some of the older photos ---that's their location. This building is the one right off the road coming in from mainland - beside the dauphin Island store. Solid 3.5 stars. Food came quickly. Service was friendly. Easy stop and go but they also have a single picnic table outside to eat at. Fish had good flavor--tad salty but still good. Nothing special or different about the food - but it's a great option in a small town where there isn't much to choose from. Guacamole portion is good- chips are bagged Tostitos. read more

If you're looking for a local chipotle-like place, this is it. Their menu is small but mighty. It's a little hidden gem right next to the Beach Planet, and they served up a tasty burrito bowl. I still don't know how this place stays in business or how it is so popular. It is not good, the service is so slow and it's expensive. So I had the shrimp tacos this time and they tasted as weak and bland as any of the other things they serve. It like they are afraid to use salt, or lime juice or something. We're finding that eating is a challenge on the island. But we found this place - only open from 11 am to 3 pm! But the food is fresh and tasty. No indoor seating. Outdoor seating is only one picnic table. I guess they expect you to take it and go? Anyway, food was fresh and good, as I said. One minor complaint is that one person in our group ordered a burrito bowl and got a burrito. Not the bowl. So, not a giant issue but not what he ordered. Standout food of a recent vacation. Several people in our group who could not have or did not want seafood experienced difficulty finding a place to eat and Miguel's was an oasis in a desert of shellfish-laden menus. We were on the island in low season so bit off hours of operation but we were able to get a lunch one day here. All food is take out. This business shares the building with other businesses. Turn around time from order to food being ready was extremely quick. We got their burrito, burrito salad, tacos, queso and guacamole. Everyone enjoyed the food. The chips were a bag of Tositos for the queso and guac. The queso was a tad salty and then you had the very salted Tositos a bit much for me. Prices were high in my opinion but you are on an island so it is understandable. We would eat here again if in the area. read more

Haven't had a burrito this good since I lived in California. I would drive the 1.5hrs here just for the burrito.

The food was great, and the people were friendly. We didn't have to wait hardly at all for our food. My only two issues are: since it was raining we had to eat in our van, and I feel like $11.50 for a small burrito bowl with a small portion of fish is pretty steep. read more

Do yourself a big favor and get the tamales. They are my favorite ones I've ever had -- and I live in Houston! The cornmeal outside has so much flavor, and the pork on the inside was so tender. The tacos were solid, but not as wow as the tamales. The guacamole is extra as usual but delicious and comes in many sizes. The traditional red sauce for the tacos is super savory. I'd love to eat here again. One warning is that is completely outdoor seating, and there are no bathrooms. read more

Could have been really good but. . . I ordered the flour soft tacos- one shrimp and one mahi-mahi . I also go5 an order of the chips and queso. The cheese dip was good, but the shrimp and fish taco were much MUCH TOO salty! I am one that thinks there is no such thing as too much salt on French fries, baked potatoes or chips. I even more more salt on these. But it was so overly salted to was all I could do to eat them. Maybe a different entree would be better- but stay away from the shrimp and mahi-mahi. read more

Oh my goodness. I am sitting outside the shop right now, having just finished the mahi-mahi taco and nearly weeping knowing that I will not have more for another year. Our family got pork and mahi mahi tacos, mahi mahi bowl, and the ground beef nachos. Everything was fresh and phenomenal. Good prices and fabulous service. Cool vibe. Went for lunch, we showed up a little early waiting for our condo to be cleaned. Wow this place builds a line quick. After we presented the line grew and grew. It says they sell out everyday and I can see why. We went with the shrimp tacos, shrimp nachos and shrimp burrito bowl. All were incredible, very authentic and flavorful. Stopped at this place after a bike ride. The Tamales were amazing!!!! I got the steak taco bowl. It was very good. However for 10.50 I would have wanted more steak. The tamales however were to die for. 2 tamales and rice and beans for 7.00 was a great deal! There is only one table under the awning. However they have picnic tables outside with umbrellas which is what we got under. Quality food on the island is hard to come by. This place is a must stop for some authentic tamale Thursday. Well, I just had to stop in here so that my teenage son would stop talking about it. Turns out that he was right, totally worth the stop! There are a few tables outside, but it's really all to go. I had the shrimp tacos, a daily special, and he had the basic three tacos. Along with that, we got an order of chips and guacamole. All of the tacos were very good, the shrimp was a tad spicy...wonderful. The chips were good, I like them with some salt, though. The guacamole was very fresh and the salsa was outstanding! I'm a big fan of cilantro! The price for all of that was $26, maybe a bit high for take away. The service was quite friendly and very fast, especially for food that is obviously fresh. read more

I went to Coden recently to visit my mom. She took me over to Miguel's and let me tell you...the food is divine!!! I ordered the shrimp tacos that day and the mahi tacos the next time I went (I insisted lol) The food was excellent and the customer service was impeccable. So much YUM! My family and I decided to try Miguel's, on our last night on Dauphin Island. Super cute place, brightly colored, beachy looking, with all outdoor seating. Super friendly, welcoming staff. When you walk in, you will see a list of items they are out of. I saw that they were out of soft corn tortillas, and was concerned (I have Celiac, so no flour tortillas for me). They were gracious, and concerned, as well, and offered crunchy corn shells, as a replacement. Perfect! I had shrimp tacos, my son had mahi-mahi, and chicken tacos, my daughter had a chicken burrito, and my husband had a pork burrito. We got a order of chips and queso, and my kids got churros. All of the food was really good. My only slight complaint was that the chicken was a little dry, but that's it. The chips and queso were awesome! Seriously the best queso I have ever had! My kids absolutely loved the churros! Any time we visit Dauphin Island (I am hoping to visit regularly), we will definitely stop by Miguel's! read more
