I decided to try the catfish recipe poboy this time and had a few bites of the Cuban and the shrimp one. All were delicious. Love the bread, perfectly toasted. Service here is quick and everything is served piping hot. The staff behind the counter is grabbing drinks as you're placing your order. So you have your drink in hand as you're walking away from the counter, while waiting for fresh food to be prepared. It's super casual with lots of benches and wooden picnic style tables.I've never had trouble finding parking. But the downside is when you're leaving the lot, if there was a train that passed, traffic might be backed up so take your time leaving the lot. read more

Pirates cove is one of my favorite sandwiches places on the Mississippi gulf coast. This visit we had our poodle with us and there is a very lovely deck space that is pet friendly. The breeze was wonderful and we enjoyed our lunch with our pet. read more

I am glad that we came to try Pirates Cove since so many had recommended it. My husband ordered two po boys- their sweet heat brisket and a small fried shrimp. I was on a mission to try their roast beef. Absolute deliciousness! It was messy as a great po boy should be. I had a side of gravy for it and to dip our fries. This gravy was so rich and the perfect compliment for the roast beef. My husband devoured the brisket so I knew that it was a hit. He is a fried shrimp fanatic but wasn't too crazy about the shrimp. He said that it needed some seasoning in the batter. He loved their fries with the gravy. I now crave that roast beef po boy quite a bit. We dined in with a group of five at Pirate's Cove on Saturday afternoon about an hour before they closed. The service was awesome, the food was affordable and it tasted good. They do close at 4 PM, so you want to arrive for lunch to give them a shot. Everyone liked their food. My son had the hamburger (single) with all toppings and french fries. I ordered a 1/2 size (6 inch) po boy with fried oyster and fried shrimp with alll toppings and fries. My husband and mother in law had the chicken tender po boy sub (whole & split it). The half subs were a great size. Their tap water did not have an after taste. My brother in law ordered the same sandwich as me and his gf ordered the shrimp po boy! There were no complaints about the food, portions or taste. They even had bluebell ice cream cones available and shakes. The icing on the cake for my son was the mini arcade room, where he got to play a few games while we waited for our food to come out. This is a must have if you are in the area or even neighboring cities like Gulfport or Long Beach. We will be back! read more

I happened to be in Pass Christian , Mississippi on some business and had a few hours so we decided to have a couple of Po Boy sandwiches. I had a large Shrimp Po Boy full dressed and my friend had their large Cheeseburger Po Boy . We had an order of Fries and Onion Rings . The sandwiches were great. My Po Boy was loaded with Shrimp. dressed with lettuce , pickle, tomatoes, along with a simple Mayo . The fries were coated crunchy and tasted great. My onion rings were cooked perfectly and weren't at all greasy. I would definitely come here again. Compared to other places in the area, their prices were fair. This restaurant was very busy. You place your order at the counter they then call your number, when it's ready. It's pretty much self serve. I ordered the roast beef with gravy sandwich that came with French fries and my wife ordered the bbq beef sandwich & hush puppies. My sandwich tasted like reheated beef as well as the wife's. Both meats were tough to chew with little flavor, we were expecting more. The only saving grace were the hush puppies and French fries. There was plenty of seating with lots of tables and chairs and looked clean and well kept. This was my first visit and possibly my last, this was my wife's second and agreed with me. Well, the roast beef poboy was good, but whatever dark gravy they are using now on the RB poboy and messy fries doesn't taste good, IMO. I've been a Pirate's Cove patron since my teeth came in. Years ago (won't say how many, just trust me, it was years back), we used to visit my late Grandmother's on East 2nd, and we would walk to my cousins' on Espy to gather them up, then we would head to the old location of the Pirate's Cove for lunch before heading to the beach. Shrimp poboy -- always... the seasoning was perfect and I could eat the bread - not too hard, not too soft. After Katrina, one of my aunts was thrilled to tell me they opened a location, so when I came to town, we stopped there and the flavor was the same, and wow did the taste just flood my head with memories. I don't make it to the Pass as much as I want to these days, but on a visit in the not-too-distant past, I swung by the Menge shop, and while I don't order too many friend things these days.... a shrimp poboy was a must, and memories of my childhood, sand, my grandparents, family, holidays, and that good ole Pass feeling just overwhelmed me. Even if you don't have a connection to the Pass, the Pirate's Cove will give you one, and you'll want to come back, come home, again. read more

This place is a long running standard of excellence in poboys. There used to be one in Gulfport but that was many many moons ago. Katrina wiped out the original location of this one and they even reopened as a trailer for a while when this was being built. Easily the best shrimp poboys in town. My husband and I have been contemplating stopping here and we finally did yesterday and wished we wouldn't have. My husband ordered the Roast Beef po boy with French fries - the meat itself was ok, but the gravy was burnt and had a strange taste like it had been cooked down way to far it was very very dark, and the French fries were soggy and tasted like old grease. I ordered the shrimp po boy and onion rings - the shrimp were frozen (Sam's club like) the batter wasn't even sticking to them, and they were clear looking - strange. The onion rings were not fresh (frozen) over cooked and greasy. We were both really disappointed that a restaurant that has been on the coast for this many years would serve frozen shrimp and not have more pride in the quality of food they are serving. Pirate's Cove is a great casual place for a po-boy, but I have to strongly disagree about their roast beef. Pirate's Cove is wildly popular with locals. I had several tell me how much they love it, but they were particularly vocal about the roast beef po-boy. I'll get to that in a minute after explaining to you why you should visit Pirate's Cove. The Good Pirate's Cove is an order at the counter, get a number, and seat yourself kind of pace. While not normally a fan of that format, it works here. The employees are incredibly friendly and welcome each customer, regardless of the line, warmly and as friends. This is a po-boy joint. Don't expect fancy takes on modern classics. You're here for a good, classic, New Orleans style sandwich. Although proper bread is hard to get outside New Orleans, they toast theirs which gives it that crunchy exterior that is required for a good po-boy. I've tried several different types, but think the cheeseburger is one of their best offerings. The shrimp is also good, but I think the thin pattied cheeseburger is the best. Roast Beef Po-boy Ok. If you love their roast beef, you can stop reading here. Never in all my years on this earth have I heard so many people rave about a roast beef po-boy and it turned out to be so bad. They claim it's world famous, but I find that hard to believe. Their roast beef seems to be sliced deli roast beef with an artificially dark gravy. The gravy is so dark, it is nearly black. It is incredibly messy, but lacks the flavor I've come to expect from a legit homemade roast beef. Looking down and seeing my hands coated in black goo was not my idea of fun. If this is the best Mississippi has to offer, I strongly recommend you make the hour drive to R&O and taste what a real roast beef should be. Should you visit? Absolutely. I am a roast beef purist. Don't let that stop you from visiting. Pirate's Cove makes pretty darn good sandwiches as long as you stay away from that roast beef. read more

Yuuummm. The staff is always friendly and remembers him whenever we come in. Lacking that last star because I really really wish they had a spicy chicken option.
