We definitely got into a few places where we had to be rescued but that was smooth and easy. Randy does a great job patrolling and was really funny and kind to us. After our two hour dune buggy rental Randy let us take out some new ATVs and we had a blast. The location at 470 Price St. is perfect with convenient and free parking on the street right out front. We rented the e-bikes and rode all the way from Pismo to Avila Beach. Tyler was so friendly and helpful, made the experience even more amazing! The bikes were in great condition and made the inclines along the coastline feel effortless. If you want to see the best views of the Pacific without the leg fatigue, this is the place to go. Highly recommend for an adventure!

Vista Del Mar Beach & Beach Access staircase will lead you down the far end of Shell /Pismo…read more/Eldwayen Ocean Park. This stretch of beach is tidal. There is limited or dangerous access during high tides. Both kids & adults do not seem to get the danger of a wave washing you into a rip current. On my last visit, their were dozens of kids or people who were close to or right again the retaining walls at most areas. The local police stopped by & I asked if they could warn them, but they maintained that it was their choice. Few seem to read the posted warnings at the top of the stairs. This beach, as well as, the nearby ones, such as Eldwayen & Margo Todd seem to be jointly owned or maintained by both local Government [City of Pismo] and the California Coastal Conservancy [who is also developing the local Pismo Preserve way up the hill, where they need a few million dollars to do the bathrooms, pavement, and finishing touches]. We are fortunate to have the Coastal Conservancy active in the area with multiple projects that have or will create more jointly controlled local preserves that are Parks, Nature/ Wildlife Conserves, or Coastal Beaches. The pending Pismo Park is at least 800 acres & most of the land was donated by local residents. Many thousands of people have donated time, money, and effort to help create many of the local nature attractions. They and others have somewhat preserved nature from the ravages of rampant over-development of coastal land. Thus we are lucky to have a series of coves, beaches, parks, all along this coast. So whenever you see a little sign on Shell Beach road that indicates a Coastal View, you should both thank them and check out the views. Some have stairs and limited beach access, but some are tiny dead ends which still boast amazing views and few tourists, since they are not indicated on most maps, including Goggle nor Yelp. As for the this particular beach access, it is fair to middling since it is so tidal. It is a rocky coast with lots of vertical interesting exposed weathered rock formations that are both beautiful and dangerous to walk on. This particular beach does have a narrow sandy beach. Beach-combing here is limited to small rocks, but few shells or sea glass. It is definitely not a swimming beach, such as Avila. On top of the beach, there is a stretch of park that has nice views, some benches, a picnic/ BBQ area or two, and a small grassy area. There is a Telescope at the small Penisula that divides the beach in too. As with nearby beaches during the summer, you can see a variety of birds, mainly perennial seagulls & seasonal visiting Pelicans. You may also see various other less common birds, that do not mingle with Pelicans nor Seagulls. Local Seagulls are noted to be feces dive bombers so wear a hat. The water is very cold, so beware of hypothermia. You should not allow your little kids to wade in this beach since it is so hazardous. Nearby Avila Beach or even Pismo/ Grover beaches are far safer. The Cliffs while a fascinating mix of twisted Sedentary rock, Sandstone, & dirt, are under constant erosion and break off frequently. Please respect the safety warning & chains, but even if you do, there have been cases of local landslides that have almost claimed a few lives. Many locals are familiar with the dangers since many incidents make the local paper. All in all, this Vista & nearby ones are ideal for views and watching nature. Please behave yourselves since this is practically my/our backyard, so please keep it safe & clean. Thanks & enjoy!

Stay: July 7-14, 2026 I voluntarily checked myself into…read moreVista Del Mar because I wanted help. Instead, my experience was far more stressful and traumatic than I expected. I will NEVER do that again. When I arrived, I was told there wasn't a bed available and that my blood pressure was too high, so I was sent to the ER by ambulance. I had driven myself to avoid that. I was alone, far from my home in Santa Maria, after reassuring my kids I'd be okay. The ER staff were kind, but despite repeatedly asking for anxiety medication, I didn't receive any for almost 24 hours. Once I finally did, my blood pressure dropped to a normal range within about an hour. That was incredibly frustrating because I had been saying my anxiety was making things worse from the beginning. After nearly 26 hours in the ER with little sleep and most of my regular medications stopped, I returned to Vista Del Mar exhausted, hungry, and with a severe headache. It took about two hours to get Tylenol, and I was told I had missed my meals and couldn't even have a sandwich. I honestly thought I was dreaming. The unit often felt chaotic. Some patients behaved in ways that made the environment feel unsafe and increased everyone's anxiety. When I needed help using the phone to call my son, another patient helped me because staff did not. After my son contacted the patient advocate, everything changed. A manager came onto the unit, checked on patients, inspected rooms, and made sure orientation was finally held. I had already been there almost a week. His presence made me feel much safer. I do want to recognize the staff members who were genuinely kind. The nurse who discharged me, the front office staff, and the security guard treated me with compassion and respect. Thank you for letting me charge my phone and for treating me like a person. I spent seven days at Vista Del Mar. When I left, I had to ask for some of my personal belongings, including my toothbrush, toothpaste, comb etc I never got!!! I checked myself in during one of the hardest times of my life because I wanted help. While I met some wonderful people, my overall experience left me feeling unheard, unsupported, and less safe than when I arrived. I sincerely hope improvements are made so future patients receive the compassionate and timely care they deserve.
