Scuba certification via SLO Ocean Currents at Morro Bay

My husband and our class got certified today. I still need to finish my training for open water, but had a great opportunity and spent the last two days of class with them. Amazing instructors worked closely with all of us (Ian, Morgan, Tom, Anthony, and Ty) with thousands of hours in combined dive experience! Also, can't thank Morgan enough for all his help in picking out our gear and my 'ferrari' regulator- it's the best! Thank you all for your instruction and advice - we all learned a lot! The last class of 2019! Happy New Year!!

I popped in the shop to take a quick look at their inventory. It was my last day in town and unfortunately I didn't have enough time on my trip to book a shore dive with them. However, when I called them last Thursday they were super kind and accommodating in order to help me find a boat charter going out that weekend. Thanks to their recommendation, I ended up having a great time down in Ventura diving the Anacapa island off of the Spectre. It was nice to meet the shop personnel and they even had four different types of gloves in my size(xs)!! I was so thrilled to have so many options because it's often hard to find such a small size without having to make a blind purchase online. I was given full detail on all four types of gloves and it greatly aided me in making the right purchase. The kind shopkeeper also pointed out that I should snag a California dive flag sticker because it was my first time having completed dives in California and he said I earned it. They sure do know how to make a visitor feel welcome and I can't wait to return to the area so that I can dive with them!

My young nephew is now going through his certifications, and I'm again reminded just how awesome this shop is. The owner Chuck is the nicest guy. He always goes above and beyond in helping clients out. From fitting gear, to sharing stories, he's incredibly helpful and never pushy. His heart is always in it. On top of that, he's a legend in the community. All the dive professionals I know (marine bio, search and rescue, etc) recommend Chuck, for good reason. The shop itself is well stocked with the highest quality gear, and Chuck stands by all rentals, purchases, and services. This makes it well worth continuing to support the shop, because he'll be there when you need it. My nephew's instructor Kim W has been AMAZING too. She has infinite patience and her highest priority is creating safe and knowledgable divers. Zero rushing through any of the material. Very compassionate and understanding of what new divers are going through. I couldn't recommend this place more, go see Chuck and find out why!

Overall, this was a wonderful experience…read more It was scary in the beginning because the waves were a little rough. We sat in the front and experienced "flying boat" - as in the boat was rocking so hard it left the water for a bit. Lesson learned for me - in choppy weather make sure to always ride in the back. The Captain was extremely knowledgeable and customer service was flawless. He knew the ocean very well. When he realized we were getting pretty nervous he made sure that the boat stayed in a position that limited the rocking. He kept checking on us to make sure we were doing ok. We saw whales, otters, birds, sea lions, and porpoises. It was amazing seeing them in the wild and they were beautiful. Make sure to dress in layers. It was cold in the beginning but warmer when we were heading back to the dock.
