Doing some interstate driving on interstate 77 we needed to change drivers and grab some lunch. We stopped at the Pit Stop Italian Restaurant. While I read the reviews, we stopped anyway . The place outside/inside wasn't much to look at but the reviews said the food was good. The reviews were right about the food, and sketchy bathrooms. It didn't mention the gnats and flys we shared our lunch with. While I killed several, I think they were just the scouts... The salad was fresh with peppers, tomatoes, and cucumber. The Stromboli and "taste of Italy " were delicious. Overall service and food were EXCELLENT but I don't think I could dine in again. Get your food to go and you will enjoy. read more

Let's start with the things I loved: the servers were super friendly and there were a lot of them, so also super prompt. The menu had a huge selection and the prices were fair. And the food itself was...above average, I'd say. Nothing stunning, but okay stuff. Now, the dislikes: really small seating area with some rickety wooden chairs. If you can't fit in a booth, they have like one 4 person table and the rest tiny 2 person ones. The chicken stromboli I got came served on a small metal plate that was hard to eat from, and the bathrooms were pretty terrible. About what you'd expect in a high traffic place like this at a truck stop. It's overall a 3 star place, I'd say. Nothing great, nothing awful, would consider stopping again if I'm in the area. I was staying at the Big Walker Motel up the road and decided to give this place a try as there isn't much in restaurant selection in this rural area. Although the place doesn't look like much inside or out, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food I ordered. I had their hamburger steak dinner. It included two fresh patties on a bed of brown rice with their own special sauce and a load of fresh mixed vegetables. WOW! It was delicious and filling. Also came with a fresh side salad. I ordered a large garden salad to go to eat later at the motel. Everything in it was fresh. This place has a menu that doesn't quit. Something for every taste. They even have 28" pizzas! Unbelievable! They're almost as wide as the front door. The service was good and the staff friendly. The restaurant itself is plain. Nothing fancy here. But the food alone makes it worth the stop. I'll be back again on my next trip. I always stop over at Big Walker Motel and now I'll make Pit Stop diner my place to get something good to eat. read more

We stopped for lunch on our way through and I cannot say I was impressed at all. I had read reviews that it looked kinda divey on the outside but that it was good food. The guy serving us was very nice but the place felt dirty. I ordered the tortellini with marinara. He brought out a little Salad first and the cheese was hard and you could tell old because it had that white stuff on it. I picked most of it out and the Italian dressing was thick. Needless to say I didn't eat much of that. Tortellini came out and looked ehhh Had some dried Italian seasoning sprinkled on it. It tasted very peppery though and pasty like it was leftovers that had been reheated in the microwave. I was kind of grossed out at this point so I only ate about 1/3 of it only because I was really hungry. My husband got a deluxe calzone and he said it was okay but it had a lot of bell peppers in it. The sweet tea was ehh not fresh. A gnat was flying around us. Our meal was like $44. I cant recommend this place. read more

This was another random find on a road trip. Located right beside a gas station, definitely seems like a good spot for truckers. The service was great, 2 gals working well together and working hard. It wasn't the cleanest place I've ever been to, but I didn't feel grossed out. The food on the other hand was GOOD. Took a little while to get, but was worth it. My husband got spaghetti, and he loved it. I got a burger and it was great, not a frozen patty! My favorite thing of all was the fried pickles with ranch.. YUM. This place opens in the wee hours of almost afternoon, 11 a.m. I'm looking at the Loves Truck Stop and remember my wife mentioning a diner next door. That was a few days ago. Who would have guessed our travel would circle back to this very same spot. They close at 8 p.m. I'm reading the reviews because nearing sixty, you can't spend valuable time eating Arby's. I'm reading of the times and am happy we aren't planning on moving anywhere too quickly. After a walk with our dog and a visit to Love's Truck Stop, I mention the rave reviews on the hamburgers. Yes, this is my decision but no. I decided on spaghetti. That's my determination of food if a meatball sandwich isn't available. No, you're not looking at fine dining but pure deliciousness. It's a diner with limited seating. You have to remember that local places operate differently and relax. The food was delicious from mozzarella sticks to fried green tomatoes. I nearly licked my plate but what would the neighbors say? My wife had the cheese steak. It was as good as a Philly cheesesteak. We are from north of Philadelphia and expect a certain taste. It was good. Prices? Very reasonable. Less than you would spend at a fast food place. I was served a salad that had freshness with every bite. Have you tested Petro's salads, they're pre made and taste wilted. This salad was fresh and a good change to wilted. Take a walk to this place. It's local but delicious. read more

The staff was nice but the place is dirty! The soap dispenser in the ladies' room was broken and when I mentioned it they laughed and said they guessed they'd have to go get pump soap across the street at the ExxonMobil across the street but no one did. The table top was so sticky my shirt stuck to it and the door out of the restroom area was gray with what looked like years of dirty hands. I was sick of fast food and I got slow food, for sure. If I could give this place 100 stars I would. My fiance and I dined there 3 nights ago. We were staying at a nearby motel and they had recommended we go to the Downshift Diner for dinner. We were starving so we ordered 3 appetizers, burgers for lunch and ordered a to-go order for dinner later in the motel room. We took our bags and boxes to go after enjoying a wonderful late lunch there - our waitress was the absolute best! The other patrons were so friendly too. We were really tired at this point and did not check our bags - so we drove back to our motel. (back on the interstate, at the next exit, about 5 miles away) Well, about 2 hours later we hear a knock on our door - I open it and there stands our sweet waitress and the motel manager. She had forgotten to put our salads in the bag and drove them all the way to us at the motel! Not only that, she remembered to put the parmesan and dressings in the bag! You talk about going above and beyond!! We were blown away!! We will definitely be back - the food was excellent and the friendly service was AMAZING!!! I stopped in with the wife after a long day in the road. We we're greeted with the best down home hospitality. We were greater and had drinks in minutes. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak and my wife ordered spaghetti. The food was delicious. This definitely made a long day of driving worth it. I would recommend you stop in and try the Philly.
