You feel welcome from the moment you step through the door. The servers knew many of the patrons but made us feel as at home as the regulars. It was clean and organized. I had looked it up and was set on the blueberry pancakes. Once I arrived it was a struggle deciding because it was meatloaf day. It looked delicious and with a layer of ketchup baked on - the way I liked it. But I couldn't resist the pancake breakfast. Eggs were cooked perfect as ordered and the sausage was flavorful. I could only make a dent in the pancakes which were as big as the plate and loaded with blueberries. I took them with me and nibbled on them the rest of the way through to West Virginia. They held up. They were soft but not fall apart so perfect to take leftovers along. I will be looking forward to my next trip through to stop again. read more

Best value in town, but off the beaten path and 1/2 the price compared within historic downtown. Basically your average diner, double cheeseburger more than enuf for 2, fried green tomatoes nothing special. Homey, pleasant staff & friendly homies. We did have to steam our clothes afterwards . Stopped in here mid morning for breakfast. Looks like we hit at the end of a breakfast rush as it was busy but clearing out. We seated ourselves at a cozy table for two. A waitress quickly brought us menus and then waters and coffee. I ordered a veggie omelet and side of hashbrowns. Husband ordered the Masterpiece. The biscuits were huge -- biggest I've ever seen. The veggies inside my omelet were very crunchy. I would have liked them cooked a bit more. There was also a piece of eggshell in them. Hashbrowns were okay. Husband said his grits were good. Nothing to take away any stars, but this is the only restaurant in about 10 years where I needed to add salt - potatoes didn't have a lot of flavor but salt did the trick. Stopped on trip from Columbus to CLT for food and fuel. My wife found this place in downtown Wytheville for lunch.. My only request was comfort food on a cold day and an entree and 2 sides will hit the spot after a rainy long drive. It's a few miles off 77/81 which gives you the opportunity to get a break from the other busy body travelers for a meal. The place is quaint and welcoming. I ordered the hamburger steak with mash potatoes and fried squash. My wife got the club sandwich, my daughters got grilled ham & cheese and a chicken sandwich and my son decided to try the Rueben. Waiting while we watch PSU vs. Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl...... Good place if you're passing through. Ate a good meal, met some welcoming locals and got a veterans discount. Back on the road with a full belly and gas in 42 minutes. I highly recommend Graysons for a hot meal on a cold day. read more

What a local find! This small town is full over charm, friendly folks with the BEST Virginia accents, and little finds like Grayson. By far the BEST homemade biscuit I ever had in my life. My husband had the All American - huge portion and delicious. I built my own and enjoyed every bite of eggs, hash browns, bacon and biscuit. The ladies working this little place knew everyone, greeted those they didn't and we left with a "Y'all come back now!" This will be our detour town on our trips south for sure read more

We have been fairly regular customers there and the food is decent, but today we went there and the way they charged is wrong and because of that we wont go back. Today for lunch and my husband got a hamburger steak with 2 sides. I think the price was $10.99 or $12.99. The menu said add peppers, onions and mushrooms for .99. When I went to pay the bill it was $23.61. Because my pancake was only. $2.75 that seemed very high to me so I asked to see the price breakdown. He was charged .52 for peppers, .52 for onion and .52 for mushrooms and even though he got mashed potatoes and salad as his sides there was an upcharge that he wasn't told about of $1.30 for the salad. When he questioned the bill and said that the menu specifically said get peppers, onions and mushrooms for .99 the little girl said "the computer charges .52 each...I guess they haven't changed the price on the menu". I dont like underhanded stuff and particularly in restaurants. IMO, the waitress should have known and told us when we ordered that there had been a price increase that is not reflected on the menu and that there was an upcharge for the salad so we could have made an informed decision whether or not we wanted to pay the extra. But for them to assume we would be ok with the extra charge or worse yet to basically know that once we had eaten it there was nothing we could do but to pay the bill is not ok. For that reason we wont be going back there anytime soon, if ever. I am an ethical person and if a restaurant has to be unethical to make their money they can be unethical with others. I had the pleasure of eating at Grayson's and for anyone in or around the Wytheville area you MUST come here. The staff were so nice and welcoming that I truly felt like I was home. Being from the Northeast I quickly learned what southern hospitality was all about. We may as well been having dinner as a family instead of strangers. Portions of food are plentiful and with great flavor. I love biscuits and gravy and I stuffed myself well. The prices are ridiculously affordable too. The best part was when I learned that a complete stranger paid for our meal. I was so shocked at how random that was. My wife and I were visiting relatives near Wytheville and decided to try Grayson mainly because of the Yelp reviews. Long day with a flight from Tampa to Charlotte and drive across the mountains so we were ready for dinner. This place did not disappoint. Small town feel, friendly, comfy. Our waitress, Scarlett, yes named after the Gone With the Wind character, was terrific. Think of Speedy Gonzales in jeans with a warm Southern disposition. If we were the only table, her constant attention was great, but she never slowed down one iota when there were six tables to serve. My wife was in the mood for eggs so ordered a Western omelette. I opted for the Country Fried Steak with pepper gravy. New to the menu was fried green tomatoes - yes please, along with fried squash and cornbread. Iced tea came quickly and was superb. Very quickly also our meals came. My wife's omelette was wonderful and since she didn't want bread, she opted for another cornbread muffin for me. Couldn't wait to dig into tomatoes, I had to quarter them because they were piping hot. Same with the squash. Interesting that the squash was batter dipped but the tomatoes were coated in cornmeal. Both were delicious. Almost forgot the Country Fried Steak as I enjoyed the other delights. My wife also sampled the squash & tomatoes, and she agreed they were wonderful. The steak was covered in white pepper gravy and was so tender I cut it with my fork. It didn't shine as bright after the great veggies but was very good, especially paired with the cornbread muffin with a hint of sweetness. And sending my satisfaction, my wife tasted the second muffin and then took half. The homemade apple pie covered with what looked like a pint of vanilla ice cream was great but a bit much for me. I did get a cup of tea to go. On the way out a gentleman noticed my Vietnam service hat and talked with us a bit. He just lost his father, who was also a Vietnam vet. Check it out. This diner in Wytheville, VA is delightful! We discovered it during a road trip when we found ourselves famished. We were craving a local spot and Grayson's delivered! We walked in and immediately knew this is a hometown favorite for its friendly community. Everyone smiles as you make your way to your table. The wait staff are so nice even though you can tell they're up to their eyeballs in work. You'll find all kinds of goodies on the menu: Hamburgers, bologna sandwich, grilled cheese, ham and cheese sandwich, tater tots, fries, salads, and so much more. I love a local diner and that is exactly what Grayson's is. The inside is decorated with a country flair very fitting for the area and they have a counter of what appeared to be homemade desserts . The staff are friendly and they have the potential to have a much higher rating. I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and Lima beans. The portions were on the small side and ok for the price. The country fried steak was what you get most anywhere that sells this item. The Lima beans tasted homemade and were good. The mashed potatoes average and the roll was not good. I did not even try to eat it and I love bread. Also got a club sandwich and crinkle fries. The sandwich was ok, but the fries had potential to be great but were very bland and not cooked properly. Adding salt to them did not help. There are not a lot of food places to eat in Wytheville and I would love to see this local place improve as they have the potential to be great . read more

We called into order breakfast at this local diner/restaurant. We made our own breakfast platter and also had an omelet with biscuits and gravy. The omelet is basically the egg base like a pancake and bacon and cheese in the middle (like an egg taco) which was different. Overall the gravy was one of the best I ever had and the bacon very crispy and good. Other food was average; some may be due to carry out. Great friendly service and appreciated our patronage. Once they cleaned up a table, we were seated. Complaints from wait staff were yelled across the restaurant from the time we entered till we left. Ordered lunch- grilled cheese and fries while partner ordered grilled ham and cheese. Asked to add tomato to both. Who makes grilled cheese with 1 slice of cheese? The chips were good, fries were undercooked. Upon their return, they were better. Completely underwhelmed by food. Maybe reviewers had breakfast or dinner?
