My go to dish is their chicken shawarma platter with rice and Jerusalem salad. It comes with hummus, pita bread, and garlic sauce. Everything is fresh and cooked perfectly. There is so much flavor in everything! Their pita bread is made fresh by a local bakery. I would give them more than 5 stars if I could. My husband loves the Kafta kabob pita sandwich. It's loaded with fresh ingredients, the best pickles, and a delicious tzatziki sauce. The combo comes with fries and a can of soda. Their fries are really good too. I've spoken to the owner before. UPDATE: 1/14/19 The customer service is terrible. I got the falafel sandwich and was told cucumbers, tomatoes, and pickles would be on there. I asked to substitute pickles for onions. The older lady wasn't very friendly in the first place, which is fine, but when I got my sandwich it was stuffed with just onions. So, my sandwich had falafel, onions, and pita. It was extremely dry and I am very disappointed. I hyped up this place to all my friends and was looking for forward to eating here today. I leave the place still hungry because it was not filling at all. I think that this would have been a five star review if there was more than one worker when we went to get takeout. It was early evening on a Wednesday, before there was a dinner rush, but you would think there would be more than one worker. We felt bad for the guy that was working - he was taking orders inside, taking takeout orders and cooking all the food on his own. All that being said - he did a pretty darn good job! The three of us ordered the chicken shwarma and the feta fries. Everything was delicious- problem was we got curry chicken instead of the chicken shwarma and none of our pita pockets were toasted. We weren't that surprised because of the stress on one employee. The feta fries...OH MY WORD!! Yum! Thank goodness we only ordered one order for the three of us. It is big enough for a meal! Pita House is yet another great Greek and Mediterranean restaurant in Columbus. It has the usual stuff but it's better than most. The owners are good to new customers and happy to help you. It has several good combo meals. The prices aren't bad either. I like the falafel platter the best. It's about $9 which is good for all the food. The platters come with hummus and a choice of two sides. Among the best sides are the baba ghannouch and tabbouli, but they're all good. The falafel was crispy and they actually give you a good amount and not just a few like many places. It came with a container of extremely good tahini sauce, which was kind of runny but the taste was so good. The falafel was filling enough just by itself. As for the sides they kicked ass. The baba ghannouch was the perfect texture of being kind of chunky but smooth enough. Many places have great hummus but this is one of the best. The hummus is topped by some whole chickpeas and olive oil. If there was any problem it would be that it didn't come with enough bread. The pita bread was good but more of it was needed but that's it. I for sure will get something again from Pita House again. It's on Broad Street so it's convenient for bus riders. There's many great Mediterranean restaurants in Columbus but this could be the best yet. read more

I just picked up a chicken shawarma plate at Pita House and I am quite impressed. $10.99 gets you a generous amount of food, including the protein of your choice, hummus, pita and 2 additional sides. What stands out about Pita House is their large selection of salads and sides. This includes: rice, french fries, Jerusalem salad, Eggplant salad , Cauliflower salad, Zucchini salad, Matbukha, coleslaw, potato salad, grape leaves and baba ganoush. So the combinations are seemingly endless. I opted for the Baba Ganoush and Eggplant salad. My favorite part of the meal was the Eggplant salad. It combined all of my favorite vegetables into one dish: fried eggplant, peppers, onions and mushrooms. It was the perfect combination of sweet, sour and savory. I would definitely recommend picking this side. The rest of my plate was good as well. The chicken shawarma was well seasoned and tender, but the pieces were a little too "shredded" and bite-sized for my liking. Both the baba and hummus were good, but I still prefer Brassica's version. I actually thought the hummus was fairly bland. In terms of ambiance and physical appearance, there really isn't much to say. It's somewhat divey and bare bones, so it doesn't make for the most cozy dine-in experience. It's no wonder that Pita House does a lot of take-out business. read more

This place use to be great so i was writing this review but forgot to submit it. But today was the absolute worst! This has been one of my favorite places to eat for over 10 years! The staff is friendly and the food is always delicious. I typically get the lamb sharwma or the chicken shrarwma in a pita. The fries are also the best. The thing I like about this place compared to other Greek places is they never skim on the seasoning or the flavor! Well not anymore! My husband and I were in here today and the black guy refused to fill up the sauce that we paid extra for up to the top. Then he had the nerve to curse and say we were trying to get extra onions for free. Onions are super cheap and come with the food we ordered. The experience was absolutely ridiculous. Like I should have recorded it. Who yells and screams at customers!!! I feel bad for your establishment if you are upset about iceberg lettuce. OH NO!!!! SOMETHING HAS CHANGED! We got takeout from here last night after a several month hiatus. We used to be regulars, then they changed their hours, and finally last night we were able to grab something and eat it at home. I don't know what changed, owners, chefs, or what, but it's not as good any more. The hummus was like crack before. Now it's just ok. The eggplant salad was off in flavor. The cauliflower salad, which used to be my favorite, is just not as well seasoned. The pita bread has also changed, but it actually did change for the better. It's this thick chewy thing that was the best part of my meal yesterday. But I really, really, REALLY miss my crack hummus. read more

I happened to be driving by here shortly after the Yelp's 100 best restaurants in the Columbus area was released. So I pulled over and did a quick map search and found this was the closest place on that list to where I was. Pretty random! The place is very unassuming. It's in a small shopping center in an area that you probably wouldn't frequent unless it was on your regular commute or somewhere within your triangle (home, work, social). It's pretty much fast food. You order at the counter, there is plenty of seating in there, you get your own drink from the fountain machine, and you wait for your food until they call your name. I love falafel pita sandwiches so I went with what I knew to be tried and true. I ordered a side of fries and a coke as well. It was cheap too. I think my meal (it was filling) was $6.50. There was nothing spectacular about the service or the atmosphere that would make me want to come back, but nothing that wouldn't want me to either. The food was pretty good. The fries were some of the better fries I've had and the falafel was as good as most any I've had. It was another one of those experiences where I thought, I should eat more falafel. I had a Groupon I still needed to use, and since this place has caught my eye several times when scanning the "100 Best Restaurants" list, I figured why not. The gentleman at the register was very polite, nice greeting when I came in. At first, he told me they couldn't take the Groupon I had because they got a whole new register system/tablets. I was kinda bummed. However, he offered to call the higher up and double check. Whaala! They could figure it out - *smile*. After trying a few of the side dishes, I loved the Matbucha and Tabouli. Light, fresh lemon tastes of the Tabouli. There made-fresh hummus has the consistency of chocolate mouse! Pillowy soft, great chickpea flavor, not overpowered with spices/garlic. The stewed tomato taste of the Matbucha was a personal fav! Huge chunks of the mixed-in veggies. I couldn't pick, so I caved in and went with the Lamb Schwarma Plate with Tabouli and Matbukha for the two sides that flank the dollop of hummus. I've had moister meats at other Greek spots, but the onions and sauce cooked in with this lamb was a plus. The portions are huge, so I took some of that Matbukha bad boy and mixed it in with the Lamb Shawarma and the hummus. Good? Grrrreat!! I definitely had leftovers. The best hummus in Columbus, hands down. It's perfectly balanced and spiced. It makes all the other hummus I've eaten in Columbus seem so bland, boring, and flavorless. Like I said in my tip, we drive from UA to get it. Every time we even consider eating at any other Middle East/Mediterranean restaurant (aside from King Gyro; but that's Greek), we wind up at Pita House. The falafel is so incredibly delicious. Flecks of hot pepper and visible coriander coupled with the pillowy, yet crisp texture sets the bar so high for any other falafel I'll ever eat. The lamb shawarma is mouth wateringly spiced as well. Tabouli, beautifully bright and of course, delicious. Tahini sauce, balanced, palate pleasing, and wonderfully complementary. read more

Friends told us that the falafel at Pita House is amazing. And they were right. I'd say that they have the best falafel I've had anywhere in Columbus, hands down. And, that conclusion is made all the more significant by the fact that I didn't even WANT falafel. I wanted chicken shawarma. But because we arrived just before close on Sunday they were out. So delicious falafel it was. The falafel sandwich I had was quite tasty. The fried to order filling was complemented well by a solid hummus, pickles, and standard diced tomato/cucumber salad. I recommend getting some hot sauce, either on the sandwich or as a side, because it is excellent. One of our party got the platter instead of the sandwich, and it was massive. Certainly the way to go if you're hungry! We also sampled a variety of salads. Top marks go to the eggplant salad and the zucchini salad. I was less enamored with the tomato/cucumber option, and one that is more of a cooked tomato. Finally, the kibbeh is tasty and well executed. Firdous hummus wins by a smidge and I like the pita they serve it with better.
