Side deck with custom louvers and composite decking with picture frame

Pitch Concepts transformed my 18-year-old outdoor deck to a new outdoor space. The project work included: * Reframed the under deck where needed. * Replaced the deck board with Deckorators composite deck boards. The Picture Frame board provided a more finished look. * Installed louvers to add privacy and enclose the space. * Fabricated and installed a custom steel gate for a section of the deck. * Installed four overhead can lights with a junction box so a fan can be added at a later date. * Installed cedar slats as a ceiling over a section of the deck After the initial consultation, renderings for the proposed work were provided. These rendering ensured we were on the same page for the proposed work. Baky and the other folks at Pitch Concepts were professional, skilled, courteous, and respectful. The workers were well organized and very efficient with their tasks. The worksite was cleaned up at the end of each day and debris was hauled away. The steel work fabricated by Pitch Concepts was impressive. I am very happy with the project results and the experience with Pitch Concepts.

Things started off great with Baky then went completely south to the point where we would not feel comfortable having him in our home after he threatened my husband on the phone. When we first started communicating with him he was super responsive, started the project ahead of schedule then after we paid him, he never finished the project ($8k of unfinished work) and completely stopped communicating. After a month of radio silence, we sent him an email detailing what we paid for that wasn't complete. He was extremely unprofessional in his response (see attached screenshots of emails and texts) blaming us saying we changed the scope of work. We finally got him to agree to come out and finsh the project on Sept 12 and he never came. We had to follow up again and he agreed to come the week of the 23rd and again was a no show. The biggest battle has been a glass installation. When Baky and his crew came to install the glass, he realized he didn't have enough guys for the install. HE OFFERED to take back the glass and reimburse for the original estimate because "it's a standard size that we use all the time." After months of radio silence from him, we kept asking when we were going to get a check for the incomplete work (again 8k). He finally responded and agreed to reimburse and not finish the $8k worth of work. Then he told us Juan would drop off the check on Monday. We asked for how much and he said $4k. Even though he agreed to fully reimburse for incomplete work. He changed his mind and said the glass is still sitting in his warehouse and would send a check for the remaining $4k once he found a project for it. So we said we would just move forward with the original scope and install the glass. Juan showed up on Monday with no check. He said he would follow up on weekend with glass install for the following week. We asked him to send it and he said he would on Thursday after we followed up 3 times. Shocker, he never sent the check Thursday. We reached out again on Monday (after not hearing from him) asking about the check and day of glass install. He called my husband and over 15 times told him to "go f*ck yourself" and kept calling him entitled. How does wanting a job you paid for completed make you entitled? And what kind of "professional" talks to his clients like that? Finally got the check 2 weeks later and it bounced. He actually apologized and said he would send us a Quickpay that day (why couldn't he have done this months ago) and it took him another 2 days (after we followed up) to actually send it. He finally had someone install the glass on Oct 9th. Other issues: -we had him install new AC units and they didn't work when it was 100 degrees outside. They had to come back the next day to fix them. The installer admitted to "rushing the work." They also burnt our turf but didn't tell us. We had them come back to patch the burn and area where the ac units were. The burn spot matched our turf perfectly but the large area where the AC units were isn't even close and looks horrible. (See image) -He had a guy from task rabbit show up (without telling us) to install our TV and it looks so bad. He couldn't figure it out so just kept nailing more wood to try and support it. -charged us for 10 trees, we only got 8 -all the grasses he installed were dead immediately or died shortly after. He said he would replace but never did. -never installed the light in our pergola that we paid for. -suggested to "cover a wall" with a chalkboard. He brought over a chalkboard that was smaller than a door for a very large wall (see image) and was going to charge us $1470 for it. Then he got pissed at us for saying we didn't want it because it was not at all what he explained and would have looked horrible. It's unfortunate that our relationship ended so poorly with Baky after started off so well. We have learned the hard way to never pay for work ahead of time. I'm attaching screenshots of emails and texts from Baky to prove how unprofessional, emotional and inconsistent he is. In my opinion it's all about expectations. You can't go from responding at all hours, immediately (which is not what I expect) to not responding for months after being paid and not think your clients are going to follow up. Also, we get that he squeezed us in to start the project but if you can't finish it for a couple months then just let us know. We certainly wouldn't have paid in advanced had we known.
