My condo association hired EDMAR to address a persistent water intrusion issue stemming from an issue with the flashing. After meeting with six different masons, we hired EDMAR because he seemed to have the clearest solution, said he guaranteed his work, and would provided a warranty. His team arrived on time, was courteous, and provided progress documentation (photos) of their work. Unfortunately, Ed's fix did not work and when we asked him to return to address the leak that persisted he told us we would have to pay $6,000 more! When we asked why this wasn't covered under warranty, he started yelling at us telling us "I'm not God, I don't know what will and won't work" and "I'm not made of money, this is going to take more to fix." When I told him I was disappointed in his dishonesty he told me "YOU are the one being disrespectful - I'm older than you, you can't talk back to me." There are brick particles on the walkway as a result of a leak with the flashing by chimney. As a new home owner/ member of a condo association, I had a lot to learn when I took on scheduling Tuckpointing repairs, but I didn't want to screw it up. We had just had our roof repaired without much pricing around and paid way more than we should for average service/work. I spoke with about 15 Tuckpointing companies and had 8 come out to give us their opinion on what needed done, urgency, and quotes. The work range from "you have a few spots that should be done in a year" to "it's a disaster." EDMAR was 1 of 2 (again, out of 8), that saw the work as minimal and not urgent, taking the time to walk through various issues, he described the root causes, such as a leak that everyone else said was masonry/ windows, he explained as a gutter placement/severe winter ice cause. He was a bit on the gruff-side at first, but by the time he left, felt like a dad who was really looking out for our best interest and had like 40 years experience really knowing his stuff. Aside from not trying to over-sell us, EDMAR was also the lowest quote. Once we committed, they had us scheduled days later. Communication was always excellent, including a 2-day postponement for inclement weather or the exact minute the trucks would show up. I can't rave enough about the team of contractors who came out to work, lead by Radek, extremely skilled at his work and a super friendly guy. After having just finished the roof (by another company, a big-name Chicago roofing company, who made constant mess, damaged multiple pieces around the property, went long, and over charged), this team really stood out in how much care they took. I thought they'd be here a week, but EDMAR sent a huge team (10?) to try and finish in a day. Every other tuckpointing job I have seen had layers of dust left behind and coming in every window. These guys left the grounds cleaner then before. They were not fully-finished, so they sent a team of three for a 2nd day to finish up. This really impressed me. They could have tried to rush it in one day or send the whole big team on day two and charged me. This company is an efficient, well-oiled tuckpointing machine. And the work itself- we were trying to be frugal and split the work over a couple of summers. In the end, they did so much more than we discussed or I was expecting! They did it all- just about everything that was mentioned between all the various companies who were out. Most quotes did not include this much work, but the two other company that included all that work were going to charge 3 times more!!! All the work looks great and I watched the care they took with the work. I was still holding my breath there wouldn't be a ton of extras added to the bill, like the roofing company had done, but it was exactly what they said , plus a tiny amount for additional bricks (because they did so much extra work) than they had quoted, but asked for my approval multiple times. The bill was exactly as they said with some of the most flexible billing payment options. I can't rave enough. If you don't need tuckpointing now, go hit a sledge hammer on a few of your bricks just so you can get them out. They will be our only resource for masonry work in the future. read more

After obtaining quotes from several companies for tuckpointing, I went with Edmar, and, now that the work is complete, I am very happy with my decision. They weren't the cheapest, but weren't the priciest. I liked the fact that I was able to determine the eventual scope of the project based on what they saw once they started the work and could truly evaluate the situation. Turned out that I needed more things addressed than could be divined with the naked eye (that is, certain problems with the lintels became evident once they removed some of the old, damaged bricks). I was able to work with them easily, at that point, to modify our contract, and at a price I felt was fair. The crew was professional, hard-working and conscientious, as were the folks back in the office. As an example, they worked very hard to try to match the 130-year old bricks in my rowhouse in Lincoln Park. I have never worked with a company of such solid integrity. Last year the owner Mr. Marciszewski gave me his opinion on a solution to a brick problem. He even dissuaded me from having extra work done by his company because he thought it unnecessary. The work was done professionally and efficiently, but unfortunately did not truly solve the issue. He came back out, admitted something was clearly not right, and apologized saying he would get back to me when the weather warmed -- it was still quite cold then. His office communicated with me each step of the way. There was no evasion or minimizing my concerns. He then came up with a solution that wasn't perfect but very workable. I was really dreading having to find someone to tuckpoint my garage. It was bad inside and out with mortar disintegrating and a number of cracked and crumbled bricks. Ed came out quickly and gave me a very reasonable estimate. We scheduled for the fall because I have garden beds against the garage and wanted to wait until after the growing season. It took two days in Oct and the workers did an excellent job with the mortar repair and brick replacement. They were professional and cleaned up after themselves. Wow just wow! Huge language barrier problem here and These people robbed me of $900! Even the tenants are confused and keep asking what these guys did because I had to complete the job behind them. I get a citation from the village to repair the front wall of my landing. I am a new homeowner and not completely lingo fluent but front wall to me is everything in the front which was what was quoted to me and the reason why I called them out. They quote me for Front wall repair so I get these guys out and in less than 1 hour he's done and asking if everything is according to contract. I'm still looking at the crumble pieces of the front wall and it's not repaired...I ask the guy to finish the repair and he says that wasn't included and that I have to call the office. I have before and after pictures of something that would have taken me the same amount of time to complete and I was astonished that they would charge me $900 for this they literally did nothing! I call the office and she says landing repair was not quoted so I'm like ok can you patch that how much for a patch so I can get this village citation off me. The answer was we do not do patches and $6k more to replace the landing. Outrageous and outlandish I could not be anymore furious as I still spent a day to patch the landing myself and the job they did would have taken me an additional 30 min to complete. I'm still trying to find the value in this repair for $900 but it was money completely thrown away and this company robbed me of it. Good luck if you continue with them. I hired Edmar to replace my sidewalks and porch. They seemed like an honest company but they turned out to be the worst. Within five months of the concrete being completed, I had pieces flaking off my porch and cracked sidewalks. They blamed the porch on salt. The concrete was installed in August of 2019 and I contacted them in March 2020 to report the issues. It barely made 5 months and I had problems. The winter of 2019 consited of no snowstorms in Chicago but one, which I believe that was about 1 inch. We did not place salt anywhere that winter. I know better. If they want to blame salt for the flacking, what is the excuse for the cracked sidewalks. Salt did not cause cracking. The City puts in sidewalks that people throw salt on all the time and they never flake. They have come out and looked and slopped a patch on it that has already come off along with more flaking. Our neighbor recommended Edmar and I wanted to give them a shot. Scheduling an appointment required me to work from home so I could answer 2 minutes of questions in person that could have been addressed over the phone. The estimator was friendly and knowledgable. The quote for chimney replacement + tuckpointing was higher than I expected. When I asked to price everything out by line item the rep told me it would increase the price. The updated estimate had everything broken out ala carte but the final total price was the exact same. I told them I wanted to move forward w/the chimney repair, and we would hold off on tuckpointing until the spring. The sales rep replied with an updated quote for 30% above the original price and said the quote would be more since I removed services. That doesn't make sense to me because you're still quoting a job that requires the same number of hours, labor, etc. Not sure about the quality of their work, but their customer service was very poor. read more

I used Edmar Corporation a few years ago to fix up my home in the north suburbs and was very pleased with their work. I reviewed a number of companies and eventually settled on Edmar as they were clearly the most knowledgeable and the most experienced. I've found out the hard way that it's not always best to go with the cheapest proposal...had some contractors rebuild my chimney a while back only to have the mortar crack 5 years later (!!!) Edmar was not the cheapest, but you definitely get what you pay for, and when it comes to home repair, you want the job done right. I called to set up an appointment and Ed stopped by the next day to give me an estimate. I had some cracked bricks above my first story window and turns out the lintels needed to be replaced. Ed outlined how the job would be done and gave me an approximate amount of time it would take to complete (Turns out, he was right on target!) They replaced the lintels and rebuilt part of the wall using the same face brick as the rest of the house so it looked perfect. I cannot praise his workers enough--they were very competent, super respectful, and took the time to answer all of my questions. I will definitely be using Edmar again in the future. My husband and I bought a foreclosure on Newcastle and needed to do some work. In order to attain inside look of the kitchen we wanted, we needed to brick some windows in and maybe move the door and also repair the chimney. I called a few companies on yelp and in discussing quote and scope of work, Edmar came out ahead, the owner met with my husband, he showed up very prepared with his ladder and binoculos to take a close look at the chimey and he had very great ideas as to which windows he will suggest we brick in and what to do with the door, he gave us a lot to think about in a good way, he also gave us the quote on site, who does that, it was fabulous, since we had previously talked to other companies, we felt good enough to sign the contract and have them start work immediately. He suggested replacing more than just the first few layers of the chimney and pointed out that the old ones will crumble soon underneath the new one. He moved our back door from off the kitchen to off the family room which we like so much better because we have more cabinet space now and he used some of the brick from the new opening to patch the old opening. He also tried his best to match the old brick, he did a pretty good job, so much that you wouldnt really know it from the outside unless it was pointed out. His guys were in and out in a jiffy. point is, although he wasn't the cheapest, he was the most thoughtful and we felt his job was quality without a doubt. He also did some crack repairs on the outside of our property, he removed the bricks and relayed them with morter, patching everything. The only thing was that there are some morter stains on a few bricks in that one area where they repaired the cracks that my husband is not happy about, and he point it out every day now.
