I'm a city boy moving to the middletown area and been scoping out some food places and had a hankering for some good BBQ and I stumbled across pitchfork barbecue & biscuits off the side of the road in pine island. We tried the basics the fried chicken biscuit one with hot honey and one with maple mustard. First off the biscuit is flaky, buttery, but with enough strength to hold that big juicy crunchy piece of fried chicken. The flavor on the chicken was great along with the sauces such a perfect combo the hot honey is the perfect balance of heat and sweet and the maple mustard that tangy sweet combo either one is a great choice, I personally prefer it with the pickles for that nice acidic bite through the rich buttery biscuit. The St. Louis ribs we ordered a half rack and that more than enough for two people a very healthy portion. The ribs itself had the perfect amount of smoke and the rub a nice subtle peppery rub with a vinegary tangy sauce on the side to put at your leisure made a perfect contrast of flavors for the incredibly tender rib that fell off the bone with each tender bite. The staff are friendly and the scenery is lovely for a nice lunch with friendly staff and even friendlier prices Pitchfork BBQ and biscuits is definitely a must go I can't wait to go back to try their brisket which is a weekend only deal. The two chefs that run this truck are some talented individuals putting out some unbelievable food. The biscuits are unlike any I've ever tasted, pure heaven. Everything here is scratch made and you can taste the difference. The pickled onions and home made pickles add a dimension to the ribs that just makes you happy. I can drink the sauces (as I have done) because they are perfectly balanced and flavorful. Ordered fried chicken sandwich half rack and half chicken with potato salad, biscuit, and sweet tea. Ribs were good came off the bone nicely. The chicken was not thrilled about with the white bbq sauce. Big biscuit good. Not a sweet tea drinker but would buy again. Potato salad was ok. I'm more of a little sweeter potato salad. This is a hidden gem in Pine Island. It's located on the street next to where the old Jolly Onion used to be. It seems like the menu varies depending on the day, and you have to come early because the food sells out. I had the half chicken and it was excellent, along with a homemade biscuit and jam. Good Lord. Why didn't I try this place earlier. Where do I start? You pull up to a meadow in the most idyllic farm-like setting with picnic tables and a set up that screams rustic America. Country music on the Marshall speaker, huge smoker / barbecue thing on the back, and greetings from the people you're about to fall in love with. I ordered the Brisket sandwich with potato salad. The presentation alone tells you this place is special. Not rushed, although it was ready quickly, and not overdone with fru fru garnishes, although it looked like a meal ready for film. First bite I knew it was the best barbecue I've had since moving here 3 years ago. Juicy, quality meat with sauce on the side. I killed it in about 2 minutes. Potato rolls give it a sweetness before you even consider the flavor in the sauce. Potato salad was chunky with no overbearing additives. I always fear anything that should be served cold might not be great right before closing but I got there about 30 minutes to 4pm and the salad was cold, brisket hot, and roll fresh. Oh yeah, since I'm a savage I also got the chicken biscuit. I asked the young lady to pick the sauce and she picked hot honey. While I was waiting the gentleman offered me a couple of ribs to sample which should be illegal because handing me food is considered entrapment. It worked, I will be having the ribs next time. Back to the chicken, I almost cried. You can tell the biscuit is homemade and was bigger than I thought it would be. Chicken was quality and crispy. Washed it all down with two sweet Iced Teas which you must try. Bottom line, these are personable and friendly local business owners. Exactly what you want to support. I couldn't believe how extremely delicious and welcoming this place was. We had ribs, pulled pork sandwich with their exquisite little blueberry biscuits - amazing. They have mac and cheese too, which was made from scratch, from shell pasta. I LOVED ALL OF IT! They have a great open space for seating and if you have kids, they can run along or teens can lay down the grass (get some sun), or perhaps just sit under the umbrella area for some shade but all in all WOW, great place to spend time and eat, a perfect quaint spot!!! I am also SUPER HAPPY that they had a banana pudding:) one of my favorite puddings done (again) perfectly. I love off the beaten path food trucks and restaurants and seek them out when I can! This place surpassed every expectation and then some. Incredible biscuits, pulled pork and sides including potato salad that was perfectly balanced, mac and cheese and cole slaw.
