The only reason I'm not giving this place one star is the food was good and the food runner and back waiter were on point. However, our server was terrible, we didn't know his name until we got the check. It was palpable that he was not interested in serving us. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay and when he opened the wine, he didn't allow us to taste before he poured. When he did pour our wine, he just walked away. It's over 90 degrees outside and he couldn't bring a chiller for our wine. He never came back to pour more wine, we did it ourselves. Not that we can't pour our own wine, but when you go to a "high end" restaurant I expect the little things to happen. He had no recommendations for dinner and made no suggestions, he only came back to check on us at the end of dinner. It wasn't an inexpensive dinner, and we expected pricey, however a little service would have really gone a long way. With all that is going on in our world, one would think customer service would be priority, not for our server. I will reiterate, how great the food was, the chef makes a mean steak and flavors are spot on. But if you want to spend money and seek service, don't go here, you have better choices. Sad, as I am here for treatment at Mayo Clinic, and was very much looking forward to a dinner that would help me forget the day. read more

I've been here a few times now. Initially I was prepared to be disappointed because Rochester restaurants do that frequently. I was happily surprised with my experience. I've been to better steakhouses, Jeff Ruby's, Hyde Park, etc. but this wasnt bad (and cheaper). The steak wasn't the best piece of meat I've ever had but was nice and cooked to a solid medium-rare. Oysters were fresh and the accompaniments were tasty, lovely cocktail sauce with fresh horseradish. Bernaise was ok. Could I make a better steak dinner at home with a piece of wagyu from the People's Co-op and my sous vide machine, probably (and I have), but then I couldn't just sit and enjoy a martini. read more

My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate his new job. We made a reservation beforehand for 6 PM. It was fairly busy so I'm glad we did. Upon arriving, we were greeted right away and seated quickly. The environment was really nice in both the tavern area and formal dining room. Very nicely decorated. Everyone we passed greeted us and was friendly. Our waitress, Rhonda, was great. She took time to explain things on the menu and make recommendations. They start you off with complimentary bread and butter. I was a bit disappointed in the bread. I had looked up Pittsburgh Blue on here in the two locations in the cities and saw the delicious looking garlic loaf bread and was literally DREAMING about it! (DROOL). This is not at all what we received and it was fairly mediocre. We both had a cocktail to start- well made, great presentation and delicious! My boyfriend had the calamari appetizer and he really liked it. The fried lemons on it were a nice touch. He ordered the filet oscar (steak filet, crab meat, hollandaise sauce, asparagus). The presentation was nice and he loved it! I ordered the spinach, goat cheese salad and a single side serving of asparagus in hollandaise sauce. The salad was unimpressive and a VERY small amount for the price ($12.95). I could have made the same salad for 30 cents at home. The asparagus was actually a heartier amount than the salad and could have served 2-3 people. (All of their sides are served family style and from looking around appeared to be a hearty amount and delicious looking). Lastly, we shared an Apple Bourbon Polenta cake. It was more than enough for 2 and well presented. It in itself wasn't anything amazing though and was fairly mediocre. I should also mention that our water glasses were always filled and waitress was very attentive. All in all, we had a great time and for two cocktails, a calamari appetizer, steak oscar, a salad, asparagus and a dessert we spent approximately $175.00. read more

I took my wife there for her birthday dinner tonight. We saw a old friend of mine, they were celebrating a birthday also. They were presented with a small birthday dessert but we weren't, I found this very rude. The food was not good, we asked the server about the "buffalo Brussel sprouts" and she said they are "a little spicy" but so good she has them as a meal sometimes. They were terrible, completely drenched in Buffalo sauce so much so that you couldn't taste the rest of your meal. My ribeye was tough, a sirloin @ outback is much better than that. My wife's filet was acceptable. We laughed it all off and still had a good time for her birthday elsewhere. We will never be back. Shame on you Pittsburgh Blue. read more

We enjoyed our meal here very much. The only downside is that they ran out of what we wanted (prime rib). Also the sides are extra which is a huge bummer! They're also huge portions so be sure that everyone at the table likes what you're ordering for a side cause they're meant to be shared and are a whole meal by itself. I had to laugh at some of the other reviews for this place. One was from a vegetarian complaining about the food options at this STEAK house! Haha! The food here is what you'd expect from an upscale steakhouse chain. It's very good but also very expensive. I hope they make it, but it's hard to imagine there being enough people in Rochester willing to support it. But I hope I'm wrong! As for it being the best restaurant in Rochester, I would definitely disagree with that. It's very good, but there are a number of smaller, unique and independent places that I feel deserve higher praise than this chain, such as Bleu Duck, Casablanca, Terza, Pescara, Porch & Cellar, Prescott's, Cameo and so on. Their menu items are more interesting and unique and often feature locally grown organic ingredients. But if you want a great steak for $40-60, then this is the best place in town! read more

First time at Pittsburgh Blue, I had previewed the menu before dining. We had everything from drinks and appetizers to dinner and dessert. I would highly recommend the Bacon scallops appetizer, they were amazing! We had the 10 ounce New York strip, it was excellent, cooked perfectly medium rare as requested and the crusting was again done perfectly. We added asparagus to our meal it was cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was really good and I don't usually like hollandaise sauce. They have a very good wine and drink selection. And the crème brûlée was the perfect end to the meal. Our service was top-notch from beginning to end. I would highly recommend for a date night or a place just to treat yourself with a good steak. Wimpy burger describes it to a tee. Last visit here. Just left after a Happy Hour visit. I ordered the wimpy burger (previously ordered this). My husband ordered a regular bacon cheeseburger, cooked medium with regular fries, not Parmesan. I received a two inch over cooked piece of meat on a regular sized bun. I asked if this was what I was supposed to get. I was told it was 2 ounces. I suggested that they serve it on a slider bun, because I literally cut the bun in half and the burger was still too small. Ridiculous. My husband received his with Parmesan fries and not regular. And without cheese or bacon. And it was well done and not medium. Horrible experience. Just to clarify to people, I got a 2 ounce over cooked burger for $6.00 with no fries, and my husband got an 8 ounce burger with fries for $14.95. Their HH menu is a complete ripoff. Take heed and avoid. If you want a better burger with fries and a better price point, go to Cameo, Bleu Duck, or even Hy-Vee Market place. This is our last visit to this restaurant. The steak in the steak salad I had was mostly inedible, the worst I've ever had in my life. It was so tough I couldn't even cut it with a steak knife. The cocky, overly-defensive manager made a fake apology, as they always do. I wonder how this could happen. It does because they apparently have such a low regard for their customers. My advice, if you make the unwise decision to go here, is to always taste your food immediately when it is delivered to your table, before the server leaves. If it doesn't pass muster, send it back and leave. Otherwise they will charge you for it, as they did me, though they did provide a dessert at no cost. Food arrived within 25 minutes of ordering and hot food was hot. Had sweet potato waffle chips. There are great..crispy outside, soft inside, and perfectly seasoned. Entree was Seafood Newburg. Arrived with large lobster claw as accent piece. Newburg contained shrimp, scallops and potato cubes, and spinach. Sauce was a disappointment. Way too thin..more like milk than Newburg and no taste of sherry or paprika. Overall the dish tasted good, but too many potatoes and thin sauce were downfall especially for high priced entree Green bean amandine was very good. Crisp, lightly cooked green beans, with thinly sliced almonds. Huge dish..couldn't finish. Desert was a Brownie with chocolate type sauce. Very good. We took friends out to eat last night to Pittsburgh Blue in Rochester and was very disappointed. Some of the steaks were not cooked to order, were not hot, some of the sides were not hot either. We had a similar experience as Ken N, the reviewer below. At first I thought we were there on the same evening but there are some key differences in our experiences that show we weren't. We too were startled by loud cursing coming from the kitchen while dining there. It was obvious an employee was being humiliated and degraded. A heavy set chef with tattoos everywhere came out of the kitchen mad as hell. But where in Ken's experience the chef went to the bar to watch TV, in our experience he went back into the kitchen to curse at the employee some more. Then he slammed the kitchen doors open (there are two) and walked angrily into the bar and began to drink beer. That's when we saw the name on his coat- it was Adam. The employees all looked terrified. I asked one of them if this happened a lot and the person replied "all the time". How is this possible? If you look at the reviews online the negative ones are about the food being sub par. A chef that treats the workers terribly and can't provide a good product? I was so excited to have this restaurant come to Rochester but I have to say that I have been disappointed both times we went. For a steakhouse... and the pricetag, the steaks better be phenomenal and consistent like Mannys or Ruth's Chris. Both times the steaks were not flavorful at all...and we had 3 people at our table have under or overcooked steaks. We had a waiter that took an hour to take our order from the time we were seated and then were served steaks at different intervals. The ala cartel sides that were ordered came out almost 20 minutes after the steaks were delivered and only AFTER we had to mention that the sides are missing. Then as the final nail in the coffin, everyone at our table had incorrect billing with items that we didnt even order. It took 3 times to get them correct. The manager did discount some of our meals but the damage was already done. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Pittsburgh Blue. I had been to a couple locations in the cities in years past, but this was my husband's first time. We have been to a number of steak houses, so we definitely went in with high expectations and we not disappointed. Rochester has really needed an upscale steakhouse for a while, and this is a great fit! I had a blue cheese crusted filet mignon, and my husband had the ribeye. Both of our steaks were perfectly cooked to order, and were juicy, tender, and flavorful. We both agreed that it was probably one of the best steak dinners we've ever had. Our first visit was ok. We were not able to sit in the bar area due to accessibility issues. No tables could accommodate a wheelchair. Interesting for a relatively new building.... We were seated in the main dining rom which is lovely but we weren't really prepared for formal dining. We are not big dinner people and arrived around 4 o'clock to beat the crowd. Initially we were told that we could not order from the Happy Hour menu and it was only available in the bar area. When we pushed back a little, the server was more than happy to accommodate. It was little disappointing that one has to draw attention to a disability to get the service we were not able to access in the bar area. We did love the server and she was the best we have had in a while. We liked her so much we decided to go back the next evening since we were staying in the hotel. We decided to enjoy the dinner menu for our return visit. We had a different server and he was very professional, but.... Busy. We ordered the wedge salads and could not have been more disappointed. I assume someone sold the chef on serving it "deconstructed". The salad was just short of bringing a head of lettuce, tomato and onion to the table with a cutting board and chef knife. It was toooo difficult to enjoy with all the dicing and slicing we had to do. My arms were literally sore after cutting the shoe leather bacon. The flavors were good, just way too much work. Who wants that? Next we ordered the queen cut prime rib to share. I can not even begin to describe the disappointment. Don't do it. Not only is it super poor cut of meat, we ordered medium rare and they actually served us the end cut! It was salt cured and the worst meat we have ever, ever been served. They should have been ashamed. We finally got the attention of our busy server and he actually told us he wished we would have said something sooner. What? We asked for a smaller piece and not a big queen cut in replacement because we did not want to waste good food. The minuscule slice brought back to the table was just pathetic I think someone had hurt feelings? Sooo much money spent those two evenings and we will probably not return. read more

Really nice addition to rochester. Went here for dinner, my seafood was good but nothing to ride home about, but the others had steak and they tasted excellent. The best part was the free bread-tasty and garlicky, and the side of hash browns we ordered which had blue cheese, bacon and onions. Service was very good and friendly. I'm changing my review to DONT GO HERE. Why? Just reviewed several other reviews who consistently complained they undercook steaks. MY INITIAL REVIEW: There are many things that are great about this place but fact that they completely missed the temperature on their 50 oz tomahawk was a complete downer. The creamed spinach side was delicious. The hash brown potatoes with some zesty sauce in the middle was also very good but the sauce can hit or miss depending on your tastes. Very good deserts. Ambiance is really nice with a pleasant decor. And our server was excellent. But the lemon was the entree which we ordered medium rare and it was about 60% red rare and almost cool cold in the center. It always amazes me how high end steakhouses literally ruin a thick steak by undercooking it. There are these things called thermometers if your steak chef is just guessing. The steak also came out just warm. We probably should have sent it back but unfortunately most steak houses then just burn the outside while getting no further heat into the center. I had the Prime rib at this restaurant. The service was very good. The food was delivered in a short time and was hot. However, the prime rib was very, very tough. I ordered it rare, and have eaten Prime rib at many restaurants plus having prepared it my self. I found this meat to be a very poor. It had good taste, but you could not swallow it.
