Your pets are in safe hands if you board with Dr. Karr and Cyd! I boarded our corgi here for the first time ever after my friend (who has also left a review here) raved about Dr. Karr. We have a situation where our dog requires 5 different types of eye medication, three times a day in his eyes. So that means someone has to be able to give him the meds at night around 9 or 10. Until I heard about this place, the only place in town who could do this is Petsmart. No other boarding place has someone working there late at night. Cyd told me this wasn't even an issue and of course they'd be able to give him his meds whenever we said he needed them. So it was a non-issue. Unheard of. I spoke to them on the phone a few times and they reassured me Gryff would be in good hands. First off, they take your dog out six times a day. Without a charge. That's just normal and routine. This is UNHEARD OF, people. You're lucky if your dog can be let out more than twice and they get to be outdoors. Not in a room like at Petsmart. You also have the option to let your dog be taken out in a group of other dogs (so they get some play time) or they can go out with just the people. Since our dog is getting a little older, playing with other dogs is hit or miss. To prevent this, they just spent more time with him and said he was great! I've also been told by people at Petsmart that my dog gets put in "time out" because he'd bark at other dogs. He's a mediator. That's a trait of corgis; big dog in a small dog body. But they took it as him being "aggressive" and he wasn't allowed in the group plays. At Pittsfield Pet Care, Cyd told me he was fine. Sure, they spent more time with him than him with other dogs, but they said he was totally fine. I have to trust two people who know and understand dogs over a kid working in a pet store. Dr. Karr is a licensed vet so if something happens there is someone there who will be able to take care of them. This is extremely reassuring. Given our dog's medical history, and a slight toe injury he was getting over, it was good to know he'd be in good hands should anything happen. Bottom line: board your pet here. They're going to be in compassionate dog people who know, understand and love dogs like their own. Their rate is great too ($30/night) and we only had a pay an additional fee per day because of the amount of medicine he needs. The facility is clean, which is a big thing on my list too. Drop-off and Pick-up was a breeze and these two people are two of the most friendly and wonderful people I have met. read more

Dr Karr and the staff at Pittsfield Pet Care are wonderful. The Vet care you receive is top notch and boarding services really superior. He even checks in as a Vet on my 2 dogs while they are boarding to make sure they always have what they need. I can barely hold the dogs back as they run to the door to get inside. Pittsfield Pet Care (PPC) is our first choice for many reasons, including Dr. Karr's and his staff's innate and obvious love for animals, prompt follow-up on results after visits, and the fact that the team always takes as much time as needed to explain aftercare. Do not recommend. We regularly boarded our dog here and were told "she did great!" Then Dr. Karr abruptly informed us (after someone else at Pittsfield already confirmed we were booked, and we'd made travel plans, which we then had to cancel) that our dog was too anxious to be boarded. If you have a dog (no cats allowed) that needs to go to overnight dog "camp", this is where you need to send him/her without a doubt. Here's why: *They charge by the night, not the day, like most kennels. That means if you drop your baby off on Monday, pick that baby up Tuesday, you pay for one night's stay, not for two days' worth. Huge savings difference compared to other places. *Owned by a vet, Dr. Carr from Easthaven, so you're in good, caring hands. *Food and six play times per day included with boarding price (most places charge a per playtime fee)! Discount for multiple dogs in one kennel. *Pick-up/drop-off hours reasonable and seven days. *And most importantly, they love all over your baby/babies as if their own. Our dogs, even our geriatric, grumpy one, left there unphased. Big girl didn't even care that I was there to pick her up. Instead, wanted to hang out with the staff. Love this place! I'm almost embarrassed it took me so long to bring my dog to Pittsfield Pet Care. We've been going to Petsmart's Pet Hotel for a few years, we've also tried Camp Bow Wow and Arbor Dog Day Care. All of the above mentioned facilities are too big to truly offer the care I'm looking for. My dogs are big, active, and play HARD. They don't fit in at these corporate places. Pittsfield Pet Care is small, local, family owned and met all of our requirements. Fresh air: Check (the dogs get to play in a good sized fenced-in yard) Clean: Check Reasonably priced: Check ($30/night for one dog, $50/night for two - small price increase starting in November) Safety: Check (it's owned/operated by a vet and his wife.) Personal attention: Check! At Petsmart I was told my dog is "water aggressive" and "not suited" for day camp. Basically he was blacklisted because spraying water in his face got him excited (he's a 90lb yellow lab. He loves water!) That meant if we kept going there he'd only get to play with a staff member for an additional $9 for only 30 minutes of play. At Pittsfield, the dogs get individual playtime with a staff member 6xs per day at NO extra cost. I don't have to worry about some 17 year old not understanding dog behaviour or how to mix up dogs in a group play setting. Yes, there is no website, but trust my review. We have been bringing our sensitive, energetic border collie to Pittsfield Pet Care for short and long stays for nearly a year now. I can only compare her stays here with those at Breed Above in Ann Arbor, and say that this is a MUCH better facility. Our dog is very active, and not all boarders are equipped or willing to provide attention to a high-drive breed. She is given so much love and attention here!! She loves coming here due to all of the play time and snuggles she receives. We love that she's able to play her favorite games and run on surfaces that don't hurt the pads of her feet (i.e. she's not playing on asphalt/cement the whole time). Do not be deterred by the small town appearances and policies (cash/check only, limited drop off/pick up times). This is an amazing place to bring your fur-child. We boarded our two energetic furry kids with Dr Karr and Cyd over the weekend. It was their first time being away from us and we were nervous, to say the least. Esp since our girl can be very nervous and anxious with new ppl and new places. Both of them knew Dr Karr from Easthaven Vet and seemed to adjust quickly to the boarding routine. Hooray! We called to ck-in and Cyd called us back in a timely manner and updated us on our babies. We were reassured that they were doing well, behaving appropriately and enjoying their stay. Dr Karr and Cyd took such great care of them we are relieved to have found them. They are reasonably priced and give discount for more than one dog if the stay in the same 4x6 dog run which includes bedding. They accept cash or check. Clean facility and dog gets outside time 6x/day which includes 2x extended play times. We will definitely return. We are thrilled that we can travel again and know that our babies are well taken care of. Today was my first grooming appointment with Miss Holly, the groomer at Pittsfield. I'm a big fan. Everything started on time, the groomer asked me thoughtful questions about my dog's past grooming experiences, temperament, etc. We were in for a bath, blow dry, and nail trim, and I couldn't be happier with the services my dog received. My small dogs had never stayed in overnight care before. One of them doesn't like dogs he doesn't know. Dr. Karr let them stay together in the run and said they loved playing with squeaky toys. He made me feel comfortable leaving them there and tried to arrange for playmates their own size. Most affordable overnight care in the area and they don't mind if they are not neutered. read more

Why would you want to take your pets to a boarder who is going to start yelling at you because you left a phone message for them? It's not like she even had to take the call. If I would have known that she was that unprofessional I never would have hired her. Take heed. This was a very odd experience. They seemed like nice people but the lady Cindy(?) got mad at me for calling their business on Christmas. She didn't answer the phone. When I came in the next day she told me I was rude for calling. I apologized to her and she still didn't let it go. She was on a mission to let me know what a bad person I was. She was mad because I asked her if anyone was watching the dogs. Because how dare you question them. She said "you made it sound like no one was watching the dogs." Honestly people say how great they are but I still don't know if anyone was there or not. She really made it personal for no reason. If you don't want to be bothered on Christmas then take Christmas off. Pretty simple concept. She told me she was mad because she didn't want to have deal with people on Christmas- only dogs. . The fact is she didn't deal with anyone on Christmas. So why was she even mad? She made it personal for no reason. I really think they owe me an apology. I am really sorry that I left my dogs with such nasty people and any time a boarder won't answer basic questions and tries to make you feel like you did something wrong for asking it a bad sign. Maybe this was seen as rant but what if you go in there and she decides she doesn't like you or your loved on and she starts in on them? I guarantee that it won't be a pleasant experience for you. She makes it clear that she doesn't have to be nice to people. Bottom line they are not professional. I saw that this review was listed as not recommended. I don't understand why. I think the people who think they are great just buy their line of nonsense and don't question them or check up on their pets because they can't afford to and don't have the time. These people have very restrictive times when you can see or pick up your pet. When caregivers do that it is usually to cover up what they are doing wrong. She was very mad because I called and asked if anyone was there. I explained to her that I have to drive past the facility on my way home and it looked like no one was there so that is why I called. She and her husband looked at each other and one walked off in one direction and the other walked off in the other. Neither one of them said anything because they knew they had been caught in a lie. I really like that they are upfront about what services they will provide and they have options like "face, feet, and fanny" for the winter months when I don't want to trim my dogs main torso. Updated review: I like Cyd and Dr. Karr as much as ever. They've been really flexible and they're always very kind, and my dog seems to like being there. I am updating my review because the prices have gone up quite a bit since I posted my first review, and now they require even more vaccines than before (and more vaccines and tests than any other kennel I've boarded at). As much as I like Pittsfield Pet Care and the people in particular, part of what I loved before is that it was great service with great prices. Prices don't seem as great anymore. On top of that, the pickup and drop-off times are very limited (1.5 hr window in the morning, and 1.5 window in the early evening), which has been challenging. Again, I like PPC and won't be switching, but it's not quite the 'absolutely can't overlook this place' that it once was. Important to note here though is that the dogs are kept separate, so if you have a dog that may not be great in big social groups like at most kennels, then definitely check this place out and see if it's for you. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Original review: Cyd and Dr. Karr are great. Dr. Karr and everyone there is warm and caring, and give the dogs lots of love and attention. They have two fenced in play areas where the dogs can run free and play to get some exercise. My experience here during many years has been excellent. Dr. Carr and Cyd are caring compassionate people. My dog -- a big baby-- doesn't show any upset at being left here. The dogs get many play periods during the course of the day. I have a good comfort level knowing a great vet is involved in my dog's care. I don't live in Ann Arbor any more, but I still drive over to board my dog. Not a fancy place but a caring environment is my priority. (By the way, Dr. Carr isn't at Easthaven any more.
