I cannot recommend Pixley Realty enough! As a military member dealing with some very difficult circumstances and upcoming orders, I was incredibly stressed about my housing situation. The entire staff and the landlords have been remarkably understanding, professional, and compassionate throughout the whole process. ​Everything from moving in to navigating a lease buyout was handled with total class and kindness. They didn't penalize me harshly for my situation, which I truly appreciate. It is rare to find a company that is this considerate and supportive of the military community. No exaggeration, probably the worst rental company I have ever worked with. My daughters are NIU students and made the mistake from renting form them. Everything you read in these 1 star reviews is absolutely true and I believe every one of them. They answer the phone and that is as far as they get. Never show up to fix issues. Their back door has been broken for 3 weeks now. Last night they had 8-10 thugs inside the common areas of the apartment building sitting on the steps smoking weed and harassing my daughters and following them to their apartments inside the building!! They care nothing about the tenants safety or well being. Horrible group of people. read more

T-Rash my ceiling was leaking water and i called the emergency number. I was told someone would be over that night, the morning if not. I was guaranteed someone would be over within twenty-four hours. Fast forward a month, there is visible black mold on the ceiling in my bathroom. I do not want to know how much more mold is above the ceiling between the two floors. Additionally, anyone I ever talked to from Pittsley was upset. It did not matter the attitude with which I approached them. I could be nice, rude, or anyhwere in between, and I was treated as an inconvenience and a problem. Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit more for a tenable place. read more

They were AMAZING! I lived in Dekalb for 4 years and 2 of them with Pittsley. I wish I had lived with them the whole 4 years. The office staff are extremely helpful and the maintenance requests are taken care of quickly. When we first moved in our A/C went out and they were out there the next day to repair it (it was late in the day 4th of July when it went out). I honestly wish we didn't have to move from there as the Townhouses are spacious and affordable. If you are planning on moving to Dekalb, Pittsley is the way to go! There are other posts out there saying that they "get you at move out" but if you actually CLEAN the apartment before leaving you will get most of your deposit back like we did. ZERO STARS. I'M A FORMER REALTOR and MORTGAGE PARA-PROFESSIONAL. I cannot believe I'm still working on getting my daughter's $300.00 rental deposit returned from Pittsley. We took a number of photos of the empty town home prior to the moving in of my daughter and her three other roommate's furniture in early August 2013. The carpet had been cleaned, but was still damp and the townhome reeked of cat urine. Pittsley had to come back in and mitigate the smell. This was documented by all four girl's parents. My daughter and two other girls moved out in August 2014. One girl stayed-over and renewed her lease; the unit was never fully "vacated". My daughter provided Pittsley in writing with a forward address, returned her key and terminated her lease agreement in early August 2014. Three new girls immediately moved into her old town home and continue to reside at the townhome. Again - the townhome has not been vacant at any time since early August 2013 - over 15 months. Because the unit has been continuously occupied, no carpet cleaning was done after my daughter or the other two girl's moved out in August 2014; no painting was done after move out. No other billable repairs were done after move out - yet my daughter and the other two roommates have not received their security deposits back, nor have they received an itemized accounting for the withholding of these funds, or any reasonable explanation. In DeKalb County, the law is clear on this matter: YOUR LANDLORD CANNOT WITHHOLD ANY PART OF YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT FOR DAMAGES WITHOUT WRITTEN JUSTIFICATION provided to the tenant within 30 days after you vacate your premises. If you live in a premise or a complex containing at least 5 units anywhere in Illinois, the landlord must return your deposit in full or provide you within 30 days a written itemization of alleged damages. NEVER rent with Pittsley Realty. There were multiple people that lived in my apartment for the last few years and each time new people moved in they never did a walk through. 2 years later, we finally all move out and they try to charge us for $2000 for damages which include:$250 for carpet(didn't have new carpets when we moved in 2 years ago), $900 for 3 broken windows(very low quality windows that cracked because they were super hard to open), a new door?($200), $200 painting, $30/hour labor fees, $30/hr cleaning fee. What happened to normal wear and tear? They never responded to maintenance requests. My friends who were the most recent people living in the apartment are getting taken advantage of by this company. Maintenance is friendly but veryyyyy unreliable. I had mold in one of my bedrooms (lots of it) took about a month of harassing them by phone and going in for them to finally fix. When they finally came, they sealed the window to prevent it and just left the mold!? Currently I am going on day 5 with no hot water, I have called maybe five times, hopefully soon they will care enough to come fix it!! read more

NEVER RENT FROM HERE!!!!! Pittsley Reality is the worst landlord that I have ever had. Anytime you make a maintenance request be prepared to wait over a month to have anything fixed or even taken into consideration to be fixed. On the first day that I moved in, the sliding glass door to our patio was shattered and the concrete patio itself was covered in shards of glass that they broke in the first place, and it took me harassing the office for over two months to have it replaced (major safety concern). They will also find any way to charge you and when you ask them about the charges they cannot explain where they came from and will instead insist you pay. Do not expect to get your full security deposit back if any because they will find a way to keep your money even if it means charging you for their own mistakes. read more

Takes months and months to respond to a maintenance request and people who resided there before us broke windows and did other damage but didn't do a walkthrough and now they wana charge us near $1,000 for damages. You guys are the worst realty I've ever lived at and your maintenance is terrible and never responds to requests! DONT EVER live in this place. The window that they said I broke was already broke when I got there as well as my roommates and they wana charge us for it? This place sucks and does not know how to run a business. Pittsley is the worst company I've ever rented a unit from in my life. I've had 2 different units. The previos unit I was in we never received a closing letter on the condition of that unit and next thing we know we all got sent to collections for a ridiculous amount of money. When I asked them about it their excuse was "We sent it to the wrong person" and then later told us that it was confirmed to have been sent to us. The employees are rude and they really care about is looking for any little thing to charge you for and picking up rent and late fees for anything. Most if not all units are build with very cheap material. The rent charge is already expensive. If you sign a lease with them don't expect your security deposit back but instead a charge for something you know you shouldn't have been charged for. If you need maintenance expect something to be done for your request within 3 weeks or more. This place is a joke of a company read more

Outstanding Service & Professionalism! My daughter is a student at NIU in her Senior Year. She just moved from one Pittsley property to another (downsized) and with all of the choices, would live nowhere else. For the record, we are not friends of or related to anyone affiliated with Pittsley. My daughter mentioned that not long before her move, she met Mr. Pittsley and he was extremely nice to her. My personal experience: Recently while moving her out of her old unit to another Pittsley unit across town, our newer van broke down in the parking lot of the old unit just as we were about to make our last run to the new apartment. We were exhausted from the heat and all-day move. I called the Pittsley after-hours emergency number that Saturday out of fear of the vehicle getting towed thinking we were stuck there overnight. Two minutes into my call, I was told by J.B. the Maintenance Mgr. for the property on Fotis that he would be right over! J.B. was so, so nice and wanted to badly to help. One of the 1st things he said was "I am here for you" putting us a little at ease until we could figure out how to get back to the Chicago area. He tried to jump our vehicle's battery and when that didn't work, he literally crawled under the vehicle to see what he could do. Then "David" the designated master painter for the Pittsley properties came by and tried to help. After that, J.B. callled his friend "Joe" from the other end of the complex who is a mechanic, and he came by to help. Unfortunately, no one could have helped fix what was wrong. But the outpouring of true kindness and the generosity of people and their time was amazing, In that huge complex, people hanging outside came over offering to help. It was like a scene out of a move when about 10 perfect strangers helped push our vehicle into a safe spot. So please, trust me when I say if you have any doubts about renting from this company, remember my story. My daughter, at her last Pittsley rental had little issues now and then and they were out immediately to make things right. Always friendly and respectful. That is why she moved to a 2nd Pttsley property. Eventually, later that evening, my husband and I made it safely home, but did so with much fuller hearts after the wonderful people like J.B, David, Joe (and his mom & girlfriend) and all the unfamiliar faces that so willingly came to our aid in addition to Elly who helped us return our UHaul trailer by the deadline, even though we hd never met before. Absolute trash! ... save yourself from an absolute nightmare. Especially when it comes to renewing a lease... ha ha ha ! Had a infestation of brown recluse spiders... never sent anyone and many were bit more than once. Cabinet door fell on one of my roommates foot (Large and heavy corner) never replaced. Entering without notice while not being at home (recorded) Giving less than 24 hr notice to supposedly change ac filters and finding blood on my white shower curtains meanwhile ac vent filthy and bath vents tampered. sharing personal and private information with neighbors with the added bonus of making a comment assuming what race we might be waiting 5+ months to send the renewal which never materialized in a reasonable time. Kept saying it was going to be handled- ended up not ever sending and then wanting me to move in a another unit at my expense to appease over Advertised unit which Ended up having two families in a hold over situation and illegal acts to evict by stalking and filming as late as near midnight, bullying, filming, harassing, involving neighbors to report whereabouts and coming and going, entering when not home without any emergency making my guests feel scared to The point I don't feel safe anymore and absolutely won't park my car here and won't sleep alone anymore. Stay away. This place is so poorly managed they can't even clean or perform maintenance properly. I moved in and there were things broken and lights did not work. The apartment was poorly cleaned and my carpet was so dirty I had to ask for it to be recleaned. However, my feet still turned black after it being cleaned again. I believe it was the guy in the red truck who recleaned my carpet, and while it smelled better my carpet was still dirty. I would advise people to stay away from Pittsley. read more

I was nervous about signing on with Pittsley after reading so many bad reviews online. However, I am glad I did. The office staff is super friendly, and whenever I have needed work done in my apartment they come out as soon as they can. I understand that around the time school is starting they are very busy with maintenance requests, so you have to be a bit patient but they will come and take care of your issues. For more serious issues (our heater broke one day, and one time we were having issues with not getting water), they come out the same day. They are willing to listen to your situation and work with you. read more

This company is a bunch of arrogant assholes. I was trying to get an apartment that was a studio that they had for $425 a month. When we went to see it, it wasn't picked up or anything. But, since I didn't mind, I said, okay show me it, so when we went to see it, they gave us the application and said to fill it out so that we could get the apartment. And we told them we would do it and we wanted it. They called me Monday, and I called them back since I was at work but they didn't pick up. So I called again today, and they didn't pick up. I called once more and they said that the apartment was sold to someone else instead of me when I said I was going to get it. Now I have no apartment close to my school that I will be attending. If I could I would give them zero stars!!! First the apartments are disgusting and dirty with mold and water leakage. Moved in with cob webs and dirty blinds with black dust. Then I looked outside and my patio screen door was across the backyard and bent. When I opened the patio long blinds about 6 of them fell. The paint on the walls were chipping and spotty. Obviously the worker did a terrible job painting where there's paint all over the wood sidings and doors. The bathroom shower head was completely molded. I had water leakage from my bathroom fan where mold started to grow they came and never cleaned the mold or put the fan back together. My washing machine leaked, and the dryer SHREDDED multiple of my clothes with black marks which could of lead to a fire. I had my dryer replaced took the maintenance men over a month to come fix our washer and dryer. They finally came and didn't set it up correctly where then there was gas leakage. Which could of caused an explosion or CO2 leakage.. Then I got a notice four mouths after I moved in that I owed money. I went in and was greeted extremely rudely dealt with multiple people saying they had no idea what the money was from and everything was fine. Kept getting notices the rude old lady told me " figure it out yourself" I didn't know it was my job to figure out what they are charging me for. Then they finally told me they lost my SECURITY DEPOSIT that I gave them so I could sign the lease and move in. It took them 5 months to tell me they lost it and it was my responsibility to pay it again.... finally on my lease they had the wrong move out date and the WRONG YEAR. They stated it was my fault for not checking over my documents. Completely unorganized and unprofessional company! I advise everyone to stay far away from this terrible company because they will just eat your money. read more

I have had some miserable times trying to rent from other places, but Pittsley is literally the only place in DeKalb who will work with you. As long as you are reasonable they are good people. Only people who I have heard had trouble either didn't report damages in when they first moved in or weren't paying their rent. Best landlord in DeKalb by far. read more

My boyfriend and his roommate and I all went to look at different housing options for this fall. The first place we looked at was a 2 bed 2 bath. As soon as you walk into the building, the floors were filthy. Once inside the apartment, there were holes in the wall and a faulty patch job on the kitchen sink plumbing. The second place, which we didn't actually get to see, the entrance was covered in dog poop. Every yard we walked past had at least five piles. The Pittsley employee's excuse was, "Since the snow is melting, it's becoming a little more obvious." The very last place we saw was a 1 bed 1 bath. It was being remodeled and the cost was $795. $795 for a 1 bed!!! For that price, you can rent a 2 bed apartment! Utilities are not included so keep that in mind and water runs about $30+ total. Needless to say, we will not be renting through Pittsley. read more
