It's Just Wings - Boneless ponzu wings with curly fries

The name It's Just Wings is a bit mis-leading because there are fries too (chuckle). We found out…read moreabout this from a local facebook group that discusses new restaurants and food trucks. This is a concept from Brinker International that owns Chili's. It uses the same kitchen but only has ordering and delivery through door dash. Only in the recent era does Eric R. actually like wings. He likes actual wings, whereas I prefer boneless wings (or as people try to say in Nebraska, "saucy nugs"). The sauces sounded pretty cool. Eric R. got the smoked wings, with pineapple sauce and a side of buffalo, and I got boneless wings with ponzu with a side of black truffle sauce. Both came with fries and ranch. Eric R. did not know that so he ordered an extra side of fries for $2. Oops! I tasted a smoked wing and it was pretty good. I liked the ponzu boneless wings a lot. I could not taste black truffle in the truffle sauce. I think if we have a wing craving, this would be fine, but even though we did order right before the kitchen closed, it appears that door dash delivered a bunch of orders before ours so it took a really long time to get to our house (over an hour, and we live in a small town where the farthest drive from one corner to the other is 12 minutes). Whatever, it's just wings!

Ordered through Uber but it wasn't the delivery that made the food terrible. Wings were soggy, old…read moreand way overcooked. The fries pretty much matched the wings. The sauces were tasty, only thing that didn't suck.

If someone is ordering a pizza from someplace, and someone else wants wings with it, then we get them from Lawrence Ks Wing Co. It's just how it is. I have no idea what the place looks like. I've never been to the store personally. I have no idea if the staff is friendly and helpful. I've only ordered online. The only thing I know is that if I want some wings, then they are the go to source... ...unless it's outside their business hours - for instance right now as I write this at lunchtime on a Thursday... dang it! Apparently they are too good for lunch. Most of the time, the wings are perfect. The only complaint we have ever had was once they were a bit dry/overcooked. But we ate them anyway. So yeah. Eat some Lawrence Ks Wing Co wings.

Full stop. Best wings in Lawrence, hands down. Not even close…read more And yet, not even on the radar. But there's a reason for this. This tiny postage stamp of a kitchen is tucked inside the dive bar Lucia downtown on the east side of the street between 10th and 11th. Not particularly a hopping kind of bar, but has a somewhat active live music scene that occurs mostly between Thursday and Saturday nights. So if you're going to base your entire business on one product, you'd better be on your A game all the time, because there's plenty of competition in this college town. These folks are ON it. Mission accomplished. Split a dozen boneless wings, crunch Thai with a friend. Couldn't believe it. An hour or so later I ordered another dozen. Both times we were told "we'll have it in the window in 6 minutes." And, you guessed it, 6 minutes later there they were, with ranch and blue cheese dipping sauces and plenty of napkins. How good are they? If you're calling in delivery (which I observed) or carry-out from that place with the Buffalo logo, please... just stop and reward yourself properly. Now I'm finding out they open specifically for KU basketball games. Talk about the perfect place to watch, because there's lots of space, there's an outdoor area if you wish to escape the dive bar part (which is kind of cool, actually), and plenty of TV screens. Good line-up of beer, full bar, world class wings. What's to not like? So good we plan to make it a destination for dinner this week. You'd walk by the tiny window they have on the street and never give it a second thought, like I did many times. Time to rectify that. These folks deserve our collective business.

The grilled chicken sandwich combo ($12.49) included choice of side and a 20 oz beverage. It was made fresh and brought to my table ten minutes after I ordered at the counter, where the service from the manager was professional, helpful, friendly and efficient. The sandwich stood 3" tall with fresh veggies and mostly lean, 1/2" thick white chicken on a fresh, toasted bun. The fries were delicious, with a crunchy, tasty exterior and a meaty interior - nice! The menu included wings, smashburgers, chicken sandwiches, tenders, several side options and meals for the kiddos. I also noticed 15 sauces, five dry rubs and a good selection of beverages. The small dining area included one table and contemporary rock background music. They also offered a patio. Overall, very nice!

I had really high hopes for this place, and my expectations were not met…read more The Mac n cheese tasted like a frozen microwave dinner. It lacked flavor. The burger was extremely disappointing. It was made wrong and the toppings were sparse. The burger was 1/3 of the bun. I could taste the bun more than anything else. The patty was nothing special. The French fries are your standard frozen fries. Extremely similar to the ones served at schools. The wings were decent, but forgettable. There are better wing places locally. The tenders were probably the best, and even those couldn't save this meal. They had flavor but they were chewy. It was a total miss :(
