We stopped here twice recently while driving through to Oklahoma. First time, Butterfinger Shake (or whatever they call it) and a Root Beer float. Mine was the float. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. The brand of root beer probably to blame. Coming back home, we stopped again. Same Butterfinger Shake, but this time I wanted something with chocolate in it and ended up with a medium Cherry Mudslide. First, I can't imagine getting a larger (although I probably will next time haha) because the medium is pretty big considering how much toppings are included. It was probably the best ice cream treat I've ever had. I seriously might have to drive back to Spangles to get it again (probably not, but definitely will find Spangles when I'm out and about again and order the same thing). One star off for how messy it was when it was handed to me. I'm in a car with all this goop flowing out because the put the lid on with cherries and stuff on the rim of the cup. I haven't had Spangles in years. What a treat!! We recently moved to Lee's Summit from Las Vegas. We drove down to visit our friends in Galva, KS. On the way, we stopped @ Spangles. It was amazing, as I remember! The sourdough sandwhiches have a little less butter these days, but that's okay. The turkey sandwich is hard to beat. Also the mushroom and Swiss steak burger is outstanding! Their fries are the best in the world of fast food and always have been. It was so good we stopped there again on the way home. Delish! I love their food. This past visit I ordered 1 combo & 2 breakfast sandwiches. Order was out very quickly. The burger wasn't hot enough to melt the cheese & the breakfast sandwiches weren't even as warm as the burger. Food was decent but cool temperature. Fries were hot drink was cold. This was a stop off the highway on the way to Kansas City... We were pleased! Got our food Togo and it was speedy Service!! Only issue we had was while traveling...The need for napkins was Warrented. BBQ western burger was super saucy ...I know it was to have sauce however ours may have been excessive. Needless to say we did have a pleasant experience and will return when we come through again and need a snack. Those fries were so good!!!! read more

The motto of quality, made to order, and my favorite: "we don't serve billions, we serve individuals" was a great thing to see. They do seem to care. I had the breakfast and it wasn't great. Good fries! It appears they put an extra bit of crispness on (like the old BK fries - only better). The burger is good too. Service takes a bit longer than an average McDs but this place is a step up. I recommend a sourdough bun and not the standard one. This place is so cool! You can get a burger, fries, a shake & a margarita! The fries come with different seasonings to choose from. They also have boneless wings. My husband and I ate here a few months ago. We were drawn in by the margaritas. We'd never heard of such a thing at a fast food restaurant! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We loved the fries sprinkled with garlic Parmesan. I brought our two grandchildren here last week knowing they'd enjoy the fries. We all ordered something different and enjoyed everything. I tried the 1/3 lb sourdough mushroom swiss steakburger and I wanted to order another one! The sourdough buns perfectly aligned the goodnes of the mushrooms and steakburger. My first time at Spangles... I was surprised by the gal that greeted me and took my order. Her name was Chris. She had a big smile and was very nice. She seemed truly happy that I came in and she seemed happy to be there. If more places had someone like Chris I think they would attract a little more business. Anyway I got a double cheese burger with onion rings at 8 in the morning. And I have to say it was delicious. I'd never heard of spangles but I will definitely be back to them if I have the chance. Wow. I used to eat Spangles when I lived in Wichita in the 90's. It was regularly good and innovative. This was inedible. So much sauce on the boneless "wings" (which were just cut up chicken fingers) that I couldn't eat them. And why put parmesan cheese in the sauce? Weird. Second, the side salad was terrible. During a drive through Missouri, we were looking for a fast food place that was unique to the area. We found this place on Yelp and wanted to give it a try. It was easy to get to, and a nice change "the usual" go to fast food joints. Our burgers were great, and I loved the option of putting seasoning on my fries (I had Parmesan garlic). The kids meal was a hit, and came with an Oreo ice cream sandwich, which my daughter loved. We didn't have any other ice cream, but they had a lot of options for ice cream drinks and desserts. Holiday traveling, overnight stay in Emporia, KS led us to Spangles. Great burgers, fries and shakes. Fresh, made-to-order, which is always good. Other menu items include chicken strips, gyros and seasonal Frito chili pie ensuring a selection for whole family, i.e. picky kids. Decor was a fun 1950s setting featuring a coat rack at booths for those cold mid-western months. Clean environment, friendly staff, this place is a winner whether you're staying the night or just passing through. read more

The fries are amazing, lets start off with that. They open up at 6am, starting off with breakfast until 11am. They serve bagels, eggs, sausage, and a dish called a breakfast bowel with gravy, cheese, one of your choice of meats, and hashbrown coins. They also have a breakfast dollar menu, 3 items for $3. Their breakfast is nice, the only complaint to be honest is the eggs taste like (probably are?) they are from a shake instant breakfast mix container. They also serve a orange juice slush drink, unique but tasty and cool. But as a cool bonus, they do serve some breakfast items after 11am, such as a Breakfast Club with got ham, bacon, cheese, and eggs one a soft Pita bread (its a soft flat bread kinda like a tortilla but thicker and fluffy) Their lunch and dinner menu provide an array of foods from the common hamburger, to a sourdough philly cheese steak sandwich. They have food for everyone, chicken strips, sandwiches, $3 items for $3 (with burgers, fries, salads, and more) and its all very fairly priced. They provide very lovely portions, their hamburgers easily trumps most other fast food places. The drive through is a bit slow, slower by a few minutes compared to other fast food stops simply because of the quality. They cook everything right there for you so it tastes fresh. They are also very friendly, if they dont say thank you at least two times, you get a free ice cream. I much prefer to eat inside. They keep it nice and cool, and have a very fun old fashioned theme to it. Each table has its own coat rack, a fun unique addition. They also have one of the staff walk around with mints and toothpicks for your dining pleasure. Like most fast food places, it does provide free wifi, nice for anyone who like to work and eat. In my opinion, it feels much more like a fast pace restaurant inside than a fast food stop. Overall, its a very lovely establishment, and I recommend it for anyone who likes american style food. I would give it 5 stars for the quality, but as the previous poster said, no coke. read more

I love Spangles. The employees always seem to be happy. I normally only get breakfast there when I'm traveling in Kansas and their breakfast bowls are great. I like the good strong iced tea they provide also. Guess I'll have to start trying the lunch and dinner items too. read more

Had breakfast there on April 17th 2015. Wish we wouldn't have, sourdough steak egg and cheese pack with coffee, French toast sticks and coffee! Sandwich was awful! Tough piece of meat, funny tasting eggs, hardly any cheese, sourdough bread was fried to long, burnt bread aftertaste. French toast sticks were completely flavorless! Coffee extremely strong. Three sugars in one cup and you couldn't taste any sweet! Thankfully passing through emporia so won't be going back. One star really one to many stars!!! read more

I don't usually eat at Spangles™ because I think the food is way too salty, but I was in the neighborhood this morning and thought I'd go through the drive-thru to try a sandwich that had been highly recommended. I asked the young lady if they were serving lunch yet (10:47) and she said "yes." I ordered and proceeded to the window. AFTER taking my money she told me they had just started lunch and it would be a few minutes, so pull up to the yellow line. I politely told her that it would have been nice if she had mentioned that there would be a wait either when I had asked if they were serving lunch or at least before I had paid. I calmly explained that the idea behind a drive-thru is that most people who use it are in a bit of a hurry and had I known there was going to be a wait I would have just gone on about my biz. The old wagon tends to overheat, and it was about 90 degrees, so I shut it off and waited... A "few" minutes became a little over 5, then a little over 10 minutes.
