Alright... we just left this shop and I'm going to be honest, the hopes of seeing someone get yelled at for not leaving a tip AND the beautiful looking food in the photos brought us in off of our 15 hour road trip home. A small family runs the shop and puts their heart and soul into bringing authentic, fresh, beautiful food to their patrons. YOU NEED TO TIP THEM! Just for those reasons alone. The place was practically full and it did not take long to get our food. We ordered fried spring rolls 10/10 Shumai dumplings 10/10 Gyoza 10/10 Spicy tuna roll 10/10 Spicy salmon roll 10/10 Caterpillar Roll 10:10 Then they gave us a Shanghai Roll on the house! It was so delicious My husband and son ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen and the noodles had the perfect amount of chew, the meat was tender and delicious. The eggs were not umami eggs they were hard boiled plain eggs. The broth was tasty but not very spicy. We eat super spicy food though so it may be spicy to some. I wanted to hug the woman who worked there when I was leaving but instead I told her how the sushi was some of the absolute best I've ever had and then left an extra tip on the jar. It is SO HARD these days to find places that truly take pride in making beautiful / delicious food. Most of the time I can care less about the service if the food is as good as this. But the service was perfect too. I wish I could pick this place up and move it to Texas we started tearing into the food before I could get perfect pictures of everything but take my word for it. I absolutely adore this little ramen shop! It has a super comfy atmosphere that is very welcoming. The booths are nice and intimate, and there is a large cherry blossom tree decorating the main area from floor to ceiling. It is super pretty and very photogenic! The food is delicious. They serve appetizers, sushi, and ramen. My personal favorite dishes are the Yuzu ramen and the gyoza. The pork in the ramen melts in your mouth and is super flavorful! I also love the spring rolls they serve with the ramen. They are the perfect size! The sushi is also super yummy, I like the spicy kanai roll and the snow mountain roll. The service here is wonderful. You order on your phone and are in charge of keeping your own water fill with a pitcher on the table, but the people who bring the food out are always so kind and make sure you are set before they leave the table. I seldom leave really bad reviews but there is nothing about this place I liked. The decor is old and funky looking which I don't really care about but the padded walls are very uncomfortable to lean against. I like sushi a lot, I've had it at buffets, supermarkets, and sushi restaurants. This was hands down the worst sushi I have ever eaten and the ramen was bland. What made it a bit worse for us is my daughter has food allergies and sushi is safe for her to eat so getting bad sushi was disappointing. The cups, silverware, and chop sticks were all on the table and we watched a guy, through no fault of his own, tip over the container and spilled everything. He then had to pick it all up and put it back. We got sanitizing wipes from the car and cleaned everything before we used it. Customer service is not a priority, you order at a kiosk or by scanning a QR code on the table. I know a lot of places are pushing this kiosk thing but customer service still matters to me. WORST restaurant experience EVER I've been here like five times because I liked the prices and the decor, but each time I went the food was mediocre at best, some of it was legitimately bad. I've tried all of the noodles they offer and honestly I don't like any of them, so last time I went I just got sushi. Some was bad, some was okay. But what really made me hate this place was the service. First off, there's literally no waiters or servers whatsoever- you order on a kiosk or your phone. I ordered my food on my phone and since there was no one actually serving me, I didn't leave a tip. People don't usually tip if there's no servers?? Anyway, I ate my food and about half way through, the chef/owner (I presume) stormed up to my table and literally yelled at me for leaving no tip. He legitimately yelled angrily. A little while later, I hear him do the same thing to the table behind me, harassing the customers for tips. I've NEVER had such a bad experience at a restaurant and will definitely NEVER be back. I'm going to tell my friends and coworkers to stay away from this place. It's not worth getting yelled at for mediocre sushi. Simply disgusting. Losing paying customers for like a $3 tip. read more

Good food but very bad experience. My wife had some difficulty with ordering from the table so we ordered from the kiosk. I do not put tips on my credit card. We were the only customers at first since we walked in upon opening. About ten minutes after ordering the cook came to the table and asked if we were dine-in since we left no tip. After twenty minutes he finally brought my spring rolls, another five minutes I had my drink and my wife had her appetizer. It was a full 40 minutes before we received our main course. Very little interaction with the staff and other patrons who came in after us were served, ate their meal and left while we still waited. It appears from other reviews that this joint expects tips. I do not tip in advance. I do not care for the business model of ordering from a table or kiosk. I will not patronize this place again. On a side note, we recently vacationed in Japan where tipping is considered rude, but this place expects tips for no service. read more

Since Shangri-La shut down on 6th street, I have been looking for a good sushi place in town. My husband and I were in the mood for ramen for lunch. We walked into Hagaya and were met with a bustling restaurant full of patrons, upbeat jazz music, and a cherry blossom tree. We ordered a few rolls to begin our lunch. We ordered the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and the spicy California roll. No need to drench these rolls in a mound of sauce because the food can speak for itself. We ordered the the chili gyoza next. The chili pepper paste on the dumplings is so tasty with a slow burn that doesn't take away from the flavor of the dumpling filling. Our entrees were the Dan Dan udon noodles and the spicy Tonkotsu ramen. The udon noodles were so delicate and tender. I doctored mine up with a little sriracha and some of the spice blend that is on each table. My husband loved his ramen. The pork was clearly slow cooked and just fell apart on the first chew. The spicy Tonkotsu is legitimately spicy which is a-okay for us because we like spicy, but I could see how somebody with a lower spice tolerance would be hurting after a few bites.
