My flashback to the '80s fell a little short with the absence of coin operated video games and a jukebox. The pizza was as I remembered. I was the only customer seated in the restaurant at 6:30 on a Wednesday night. Though there was a steady stream of to-go orders and deliveries, I expected to get great service. The server didn't return to refill my tea glass, and that's a giant pet peeve of mine. It's a simple task and fundamental food service. The pizza was exactly as it should be. I ordered the Super Supreme Medium Pizza and I couldn't have expected better. The ambiance is a slightly modern interpretation of the 1980s Pizza Hut we all know and remember, absent two very important details. Missing was the coin operated video games with their constant background tunes, and no jukebox. Otherwise, my trip down memory lane would have been complete. We ordered through Door Dash. After waiting for over an hour, we tried to call Pizza Hut and got the hand off to the call center and than back to the call center. That didn't work so we called Door Dash. They told us that after two hours, they were still looking for a Dasher. We cancelled our order and than our membership with Door Dash! We LOVE Pizza Hut. Especially the Supremo sandwiches. We rolled into town, checked into our motel and didn't see a surplus of restaurants but Pizza Hut was close so that was our choice. There was one large party of 10-12 and 2 other booths. So not overly busy. There was a lot of chaos behind the register so no one could be bothered to tell us whether to wait or seat ourselves. I tried to get someone's attention to make sure this location even made the sandwiches. I know not all do. We finally gave up and seated ourselves and still 20 minutes later we had not been waited on. The one very busy waitress was bussing tables and waiting on the other customers. When she finally came to our table I quickly asked if they served sandwiches. It was not hard at all to walk out the door still hungry when she told us no. There were probably 4 or 5 other employees behind the cash register working very hard but NO ONE took the time to acknowledge us. I agree with Chuck J. A perfect example of poor leadership. Have not eaten at a Pizza Hut in years but this was the only restaurant that was within walking distance from the Eklund Hotel in Clayton, New Mexico. The hand tossed was new since my last visit 20 years ago so we ordered it on a pepperoni pizza. It was delicious! I'd give zero stars if I could. They never get ur order correct. Deliver it to the wrong address, when they deliver it at all. The food is prepared wrong, it doesn't look appetizing, and it's usually under or over cooked. U can never get in contact with the restaurant because the call catcher they don't have says they're closed, even when they're open. They turn the website off if they don't feel like doin deliveries, and the manager is so unprofessional if u go up there to inquire about an order, or complain she will straight up trespass u from the store, and regularly chews out her employees in front of everyone in the restaurant. It makes for a very uncomfortable dining experience. With her yelling and cussing, I def wouldn't take young kids in there. My wife called and talked to santos. She told him what happened and he claimed we ordered a pepperoni lovers pizza with no pepperoni. Huh????? Two stars because I felt bad for the manager. She was waiting on tables, checking out customers,bussing the dining room and just about everything else. There was a teenage kid cooking pizzas and another employee showed up as we were leaving. Understaffed and she was still pleasant considering the situation. Pizza was ok but not great. The restaurant has not been updated since 1982, as was pointed out by my 10 year old with his fascination of advertising and branding. UPDATE: I contacted Pizza Hut customer service, and got a canned reply that a member of the management team for this store would contact me in three days. 15 days later, I have not been contacted. This tells me that the poor service in this store starts at the top, and that even the corporate office doesn't give a f@#k about customers in Clayton. Stella had to repeatedly tell other employees to go take orders from dine in customers. There was absolutely no organization to the order tickets. There were dine in customers coming up and asking me if they were supposed to order at the counter. I watched at least six people walk out without ordering. The restaurant was not crowded. I got my order and was charged full price. When I got home an hour and 15 minutes after the order was placed, my wife was looking at the order, and it was incorrect. Wings were not there, and we had an extra pizza. The pizza we ordered was not the bacon cheese stuffed crust, though we were charged for it. My wife called, and Stella said there was nothing she could do about it tonight, and asked if she could fix it tomorrow. My wife told her we had company and that was our dinner. When my wife asked her about the pizza crust, Stella said they were out of the crust, so they substituted the crust and charged us for the other. We finally worked it out to get our wings and and two of the Hershey's desserts. When I arrived back at the restaurant to pick up the additional items, I had to wait about five minutes for the desserts to finish cooking. I got the desserts, my order of wings, and an extra order of wings. The wings had been sitting at least an hour under the warmer. We went in at 11:30. There are no posted hours for the lunch buffet, so it's possible they don't start until 12 noon, so I won't ding them on that. But this is a Pizza Hut that has been working to repair its reputation, so I will focus on that primarily. First, the good: the salad bar has been back for awhile, but I know when it is gone it is a constant complaint. The salad bar was clean and well stocked. The pizzas on the buffet had a decent selection and variety of toppings. Then, the bad: There's not a lot of attention to detail in cleanliness, which should be a very important thing for a restaurant looking to repair its reputation. The carpet is in bad need of shampooing, but the manager has been trying to address that, but shampooing doesn't solve the problem of small paper and food scraps in the carpet and on the tables. The tables did not look as if they had been properly cleaned. This was when they had first opened up, so it wasn't because of an overly busy day. To make matters worse, staff members were talking openly about someone who came into the restaurant, not a good idea when people can see and hear into the kitchen. Now the ugly: Most of the experience was good. Not great, but not atypical of small towns either. However, if small towns want to aspire for excellence, they really need to give attention to the overall dining experience. I ordered water. It was refilled exactly once, and that was when the waitress bought us our check. There were not many patrons in the restaurant, but the waitress did not arrive quickly with silverware and drink orders. The men's bathroom had not been swept the night before, the garbage was full, and there were no paper towels in the dispenser. This makes me wonder if the male employees the night before were washing their hands, as they would have had to notice the lack of paper towels if they were. Another patron noticed the plates set out for the buffet were all dirty. Everyone; they had to bring out more. Again, this reflects more on the night shift, but if you manage, you manage the whole restaurant, not just one shift. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the buffet doesn't technically open until noon, but even at noon they weren't ready, despite having customers who had been dining since 11:45. The pasta was not set out, the marinara was not set out, and even the breadsticks only came out very shortly prior. Sad to say, this was not a "wow" experience. This could have been done better, and would have, if there was a serious desire to see this restaurant excel. I am giving three stars noting that it is a generous three stars, and considering the effort they are putting in. There is still, however, much to be done. read more

Our experience at the Clayton Pizza Hut is the reason why I downloaded Yelp to make sure we don't waste our money again. Dirty bathrooms and the overall feel of the restaurant was unclean. Pepperoni pizza at buffet was out and when I went to ask the staff if they could restock it..i had to wait til the staff was done texting on her phone before I could make My request. My kids didn't touch their food (couldn't blame them!). Pizza didn't taste that great. Very slow to restock pizza and there were only 2 other tables besides ours that were seated. There arent many places to eat in Clayton so I just recommend driving on through to another town. read more

Worst Pizza Hut experience ever! Traveling through town on a Sunday, we stopped at noon to eat at the buffet. There were only three people working, one woman (bless her) was serving the dining room and she was friendly enough, but this store had only half of their advertised drinks available and she had to explain to each customer that, no, their preferred beverage was not available. The buffet was mostly empty. Once the pasta and breadsticks ran out, they remained empty for the remainder of our visit. The few pizzas that came out were all meat, not a problem for me but other members of my party do not eat meat. We had to request a vegetable pizza and then wait for it to come out. Paper plates at the buffet line, unusual! Plastic wrapped "to-go" cutlery, also unusual. We had to specifically request napkins?? We were given grocery store napkins?? The only dessert pizza served was a cherry strudel pizza that NO ONE ate. It was out when we arrived and 40 minutes later it was out and still untouched. While we were eating, an employee approached our table and asked if we had change to break a $100 bill! Regardless of whether or not we could, we told her NO and she went back to the cash register. Looked like it hadn't been replenished in a while. It has now been 45 minutes since I have entered the restaurant and the confused and inept staff have yet to even make our food. We rolled into Clayton at 7:30pm with 2 starving children. We saw that pizza hut was open until 8pm, so we called at 7:40 to place a to go order. They very rudely told us they were closed. When we said that it stated that they were open until 8, that just said "nope" and hung up. If the kitchen closes before 8 pm, it should state that very clearly. If I was the owner of this Pizza Hut, I would have a few words with the staff. By reading all the reviews, its clear that this Hut has a bad rep., which is only compounded by their poor staff attitudes. read more
