At first we were reluctant, thinking how could an Italian restaurant be any good in a small town in Virginia. After all, we are of Italian-American descent -- so we know genuine Italian food and being the cook in our home -- I know how to cook Italian. Starting in the am head up 16 North to Marion VA making your way by the Highway Drive-in aka Dip Dog stand for some greasy goodness around lunch time then continue on 16 N through the designated Back of the Dragon route, make sure to give some love to the Thompson Valley Market ( the unofficial previous BOD welcome spot) then continue into Tazewell and a stop at the Back of the Dragon for some refreshment and merch before returning to Charlotte, either back the way you came or grab 77 South out of the Wytheville VA area for a quicker return. It's a long day but great therapy for the soul.
