Fresh, flavorful, and something I'd absolutely order again. What really stands out is that this isn't a place with one or two great items. Everything we've ordered has been great. You can tell they care about the quality of the ingredients and actually put some creativity into the food. Admittedly, my low water mark for a dive bar is my requirement that they have proper paper towels in the washroom. Past reviews of mine bring this up. To me there are very few things worse than walking out of the washroom finishing drying my hands on my pants! ;-) In this case, I make an exception (truly my first) because everything else was great. The bar itself is fun, welcoming, and stocked with all kinds of beers and drinks you don't always find at a typical neighborhood spot. Personally, I love that they always have ice-cold Moosehead ready to go--credit to the owner for that. I originally started coming to this little gem because of the Moosehead... but I'll always keep coming back because of Leli and Ali.

Unfortunately, it seemed like the staff didn't want us there from the beginning. We called the day before and were told they don't take reservations, which is understandable, so we assumed we might have to wait for seating when we arrived. When we got there, the hostess told us it would be "a really long time" for a table. She then asked if we could do two tables, and I said sure, even though we had kids with us ranging from 2 to 11 years old. She then asked how far apart the tables could be seated. I'm sure the servers didn't want to be babysitting, and clearly, given the ages of the kids, they couldn't be seated any farther than the table next to us lol. She then proceeded to tell us that there were two tables available, but they weren't next to each other. If we wanted to sit at completely separate tables, we would have just eaten at our own homes or gone to separate restaurants. We were then told we needed two separate servers, even though we were willing to wait longer for tables next to each other. I asked if we could have one server, and she said it wasn't possible. At this point, we were pretty irritated with feeling like an inconvenience to the restaurant, but we said whatever works best for them, we would take. Then the hostess finally seated us and she continued to be short tempered and unwelcoming. She dropped the "specials" menu on the table and quickly walked away. Her attitude made it clear that she was unhappy to be serving us and made us feel extremely unwelcome from the beginning. The server was fine and did his best to manage a large group of people and kids. However, I was taken back when I walked over to the pickup area looking for him because I wanted to order a dessert so we could sing "Happy Birthday" to my niece. I overheard the staff talking about us leaving. After spending $400 and leaving a tip, being treated like that was extremely disappointing. My family will not consider this location again because of the lack of service. Flanigan's is great, but I would recommend choosing another location.
