This place is a small but busy very casual place for good BBQ. Nothing fancy except for great food, great service and fair prices. Today we started with a cup of Brunswick Stew. It was delicious. A spicy stew with potatoes, vegetables & chicken, more like a thick soup with a good kick. If you like spicy food try this. We both had the 1/2 BBQ chicken. A nice meal. Very very disappointed..... use to eat there few yrs ago and went back with my wife. Ordered plain half roast chicken and half rack. Both were dry overcooked. Baby backs barely had any meat on them at all...... You want baby backs? Flannagans is so much better. (no contest). Be forewarned that it is not smoked, which is an option for folks who want something flavorful without the heavy smokiness. 3.5 rounded up. The owner is super welcoming, easy to work with, and made the catering process smooth from start to finish. You can really tell they take pride in their business. In an earlier review I wasn't very kind , when in fact we've been going there for years. Well last night we ate at MS, and it was fabulous. Plenty of parking , no reservation so we walked in at 7 PM Was directed to a table Our waitress was great. Drinks came right away, and after a few sips, we ordered. Baby Back ribs for all. Both the BBQ Beef sandwich which is really good. Wife got the Mac and Cheese which comes in a small container which she likes. I got tractor treads which are cottage fries most places. The my BBQ was really good but fries were a disappointment. They were lukewarm warm by the time came to the table. Before you could finish they were stone cold. After shopping at the Town Center Boca mall, a collection of trending restaurants popped up in the area on my phone. I took notice and decided to try Mississippi Sweets. It was only 5 miles away on Federal Highway so we showed up on their doorstep. I decided to try new places this year and this is where I started. We were there at the perfect time this past Friday evening at 5:30 pm. This is a very small intimate venue with tables and chairs on either side of a bar where they collect money and outgoing orders. There were a couple of tables of two available. There were also tables outside with an above awning. It appeared to be a very casual fun place. Ingrid was our very fun and adept waitress. She explained the menu and offered her recommendations. Paul got a couple of beers and we ordered large orders of Denmark ribs and wings which came with two sides. We had the string beans, macaroni and cheese and the Mississippi sweet potato chips. The orders came in a very large straw basket. They almost took over the whole table. She brought over squeeze bottles of two different sauces for added flavor. Wow! So much fun, food, flavor and mess! Other patrons have come here for years. They love it. Payment in cash was rewarded with a 3% discount but if you paid with a credit card, there was no added cost. When we walked out, the line was outside the door to get in. I was not surprised. If you're looking for a delicious barbecue, Mississippi Sweets always delivers. My boyfriend and I came on a Saturday night around 7:30 and we're seated promptly. The shopping center is going under construction so I can see how it is deterring people from going, but the restaurant is still up and running. When we got there, there are more tables filled than empty and the delicious smoky barbecue smell filled the air. I was recently here for dinner with my girlfriend. We were seated immediately at about 5:45-6ish. I really like the wings and ribs combo. Five baby back ribs and five wings. My well done all flats were very good. The baby back ribs were excellent. We added on a side order of their famous "sweets," and I loved them! More than enough to share, and we even had enough to bring some home. If you love sweet potatoes like I do, I highly recommend getting the "sweets," which are sweet potato chips. They are highly addictive and delicious. This is a small restaurant and they were busy. When we left, there was a 45-minute wait. Our server was friendly and efficient. Very nice. Prices have gone up since the pandemic, but what restaurant hasn't? The wing/rib basket used to come with a side, but now they just include some carrots, celery, and a choice of blue cheese or ranch. It's a smaller combo, but quite filling. The ribs are fall off the bone. The 6 wings, I got with medium spice level, well done, and all flats. Both were excellent. And we couldn't resist adding in a basket of their "sweets" -- thinly sliced sweet potato "chips" that as usual, are addictive. Actually took half of my meal home for later. They were packed -- on a Monday night yet -- and we vacated our table early so some folks in the waiting line could sit down. I'd come here again. Service was normal. The place is beautiful but the food is terrible. My 12 years old son that eat ANYTHING, said the pizza from his Cafeteria Middle school was better than the ribs. My daughter said the pork pulled sandwich was plain and no taste. If they call me to offer me a new experience with their food for free, I wouldn't go. We didn't even want to try the dessert. I used to come to Mississippi Sweets all the time. The last time just two months ago I had the full slab Rib/Wings combo at lunch it was great. Then I went for Dinner and ordered the same. The Ribs had practically no meat on them. Bones showing. Terrible. Was like they reheated leftovers from unsold lunches. I complained. The Server was more interested in talking on her phone and dealing with some low lifes hanging around the parking lot. I complained about the quality of my food. She did NOTHING. She was worthless. Told me she had been working there for 15 years and would tell the Owner the next day. Did not offer me a re-fire or a replacement or a discount. I gave her my contact information. I never heard back from anyone. If she worked for me I would have fired her on the spot. Tonight, a few weeks later, it being a Saturday night prime time, I told the Server about my last Dinner experience and that I wanted a full slab Rib/Wings combo, the most expensive item on the menu, and that I did not want any unsold lunch reheats. I told her about the experience I described above. I expected a fresh Full Slab of Ribs and fresh Wings. When I received my food, the Rib Slab was mostly bones showing. AGAIN. No meat. Looked like reheated unsold lunch. The Wings were also the same. Overcooked reheats. I be am DONE with this restaurant. It used to be great. It's now crappy. Buh Bye. Haven't been here in a while, but its just as good as I remembered. Located in a small strip shopping center on Federal Hwy and NE 25th it's super casual and there's plenty of parking. Walk inside and you can watch the chefs cook. Get there early, because there's always a line. Ordered ribs, pulled pork, half bbq chicken and some wings. Everything was exceptional! Sauces were amazing and they have a spicy barbecue that's really good and not on the table, but they will bring it to you. Sides were all good and on point. one star because It's the only way to write a review. We tried this place for the first time and ordered food to pick up. Get home and see that the sides are in a little to go ketchup size container. The ribs are dried out beef jerky and the chicken is dry as well. So not only was the order expensive ~42$~ , dried out, there wasn't enough food for two average size people and a small child. In 1991 Jerry and Linda DeFero opened Mississippi Sweets in a 1,000-square-foot space in a strip mall in Boca. They named the restaurant after the addicting sweet potato chips, Mississippi Sweets that they sold on the menu. Eventually they were able to purchase the space next door and open another restaurant in Wellington. Jerry recently passed away in February but over 30 years later his labor of love is still serving up delicious barbecue. Today the restaurant is owned by Randy Smith who credits the restaurants longevity to "quality, consistency, friendliness, and value." This is a comfortable no frills kind of restaurant with walls decorated with barbecue knickknacks and pictures of riverboats. My girlfriend suggested meeting here for dinner and craving ribs I was quick to agree. I must have passed by here thousands of times without taking notice. My friend and I both ordered the half slab ($19.99), all natural, non-GMO baby backs sourced from a Danish heritage farm and butcher, then slow-cooked and smoked. They were fall of the bone tender just the way I like and the portion was generous. On the table were two sauces, a sweet and spicy and a mustard. For my sides I took my friends recommendation of the Mississippi Sweets and coleslaw. Other sides include a waffle fries called tractor treads, corn bread, applesauce, baked beans, green beans and macaroni and cheese. My friend suggested dipping the Mississippi Sweets in the mustard sauce and it was fantastic. Also on the menu are wings, salads, Brunswick stew, chicken, and catfish. They had several pie options for dessert. You don't stay in the restaurant business this long in south Florida without local support. Our waitress was a sweetheart too. Many of the servers are long time employees. If you are looking for reasonably priced finger licking good barbecue in a no fuss setting, come check out this Boca Raton institution. read more

With friendly, attentive service and quality meats, Mississippi Sweets is a solid choice for barbecue if you're in Boca. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with sides of cornbread and baked beans, and the key lime pie for dessert. The sandwich was absolutely massive, piled high with tender pork. The meat on the sandwiches here doesn't come pre-mixed with sauce, so you can control how much goes on. I will say that I wasn't overly fond of the two sauces offered though - mustard sauce isn't my preference and I found the original barbecue sauce too tomato-heavy. It was a bit better once I added in hot sauce. The bun of my sandwich did get a bit soggy as I ate, but that's sort of inevitable if it's not toasted before the hot fillings are added. The sides came piping hot and both were good. The cornbread here is softer and sweeter than I typically prefer but definitely still enjoyable. The key lime pie was on the sweeter side, decadent with a crunchy crust and plenty of thick whipped cream. Our waitress was personable and checked in on us throughout the meal. I found the prices here to be very reasonable as well. I don't know if I'd eat in if I visit again though - with the open kitchen, it got pretty smokey and warm inside. I've eaten here a few times and had also had takeout. I really prefer my ribs, Charleston style and just hand rubbed, but the people I was with, like baby back smothered in sauce, and they really felt that these were the best they ever had. The Mississippi Sweets that I went to the first time was up in Lake Worth, but I must say, I prefer the Federal Highway location. Very nice server and terrific food. If you find yourself in Boca looking for some good wet style BBQ then this is s great spot. I have eaten here twice & both experiences were consistant. The lot out front is shared by several other places so parking might be a bit tough during busy hours. When you walk in, the restaurant is split down the middle with the kitchen being in the center. For drinks, sodas are sold by the can so keep that in mind. Menu wise, there are the traditional BBQ items to choose from. The corn bread is interesting as I believe it is grilled slightly. Was not my style, but to each their own. The brisket is great & the pulled pork is pretty good. They serve massive amounts of waffle fries so keep that in mind as one side is usually large enough to share with others. The fries did need salt. You will most likely have leftovers so plan to take some home. Ideally, I'd prefer fountain sodas with free refills, & the bread served with the food to be a stronger Texas Toast so it didn't just turn into a soggy mess under the meat. Other than that, I had no real complaints. The servers were nice & the food wasn't ridiculously overpriced. Factor in for about $20-$25 per person when you go. read more
