We didn't want to grab and go since there was absolutely no seating anywhere around the restaurant (and none of the grab and go pizza selections looked remotely edible, anyway). So we decided to get a table and they sat us in a back corner, in chairs that my husband literally couldn't even fit in (he's 6'5). So some friends came into town and we were doing a little bit of gambling downtown and wanted to walk around and check out the sights on a Saturday night. This was my first time going into Pizza Rock, I like the fact that you can walk up to the counter, grab a slice and head out the door or go in sit down, order a pizza, a beer and hang out. One thing you'll notice when you first walk in is they have a full size semi truck in the building. Great decoration and definitely is a conversation point. We decide to sit at the bar with our pizzas. I had the caliente.... Was not expecting it to be as spicy as it was, but it was a darn good pizza. Washed it down with a nice beer from the bar and it was the perfect meal for a Saturday night. Was it the best pizza I ever had? No, it wasn't. Was it the worst pizza that I've ever had in my life? No, it wasn't. But I will say it was a good pizza and was the perfect thing I was looking for when we were walking around Fremont Street. Bottom line? Three and a half stars. It's a palace devoted to the worship of pizza, and as a pizza addict that always makes me happy. The menu was a delight to read. Nice vibe inside. I first ordered slices to go and while they seem expensive, you're in Vegas so quit complaining and besides, you're getting quite a bit of pie. I was shocked that I liked the Detroit Pepperoni. It's basically just a piece of thick but super light bread with a tangy sauce on top, which was surprisingly delicious. The inside of the crust reminded me of a perfect French baguette, which would seem to be difficult to replicate in a pan but apparently it's not impossible. The other slice was a mix of many things and quite satisfying. I had to knock off points for the Margherita. I went back the next night and sat at the bar so I could order a whole pie and eat it properly with a knife and fork. Physically it checked all the boxes of a verace pizza napoletana, and that also always makes me happy. But honestly, the taste lacked the pop I was expecting, as the usual tang of superb Campania tomatoes was missing. Usually there's only a little salt in the crushed tomatoes, but this one seemed like there was none at all. Bad batch from the supplier? Maybe the dough was undersalted? Dunno. I've eaten at the owner's place on Stockton in S.F. and didn't have the same reaction, so maybe it was just an off night. The food here (that we tried) was amazing!! Had the meatballs and pepperoni pizza with hot honey. Very, very good. Place was clean and no real issue with service. It was a weekday in the afternoon so not busy at all. Only real issue was I when I paid (it's on an app) it had my card an error so I went to "try again," and while in that process, our server said the computer showed we were paid up and good to go. When I said I had received an error, he said "oh it does that, I don't know why. But you're good." Very frustrating that we weren't told that beforehand because I could have paid twice!!! That is recommended if you want to come during a busy time. We were very confused by the menu, there are literally every kind of pizza you can imagine. On top of that, our server was not very good at explaining or provide recommendations. We ended up getting the Romana two pizza since they come with 3 flavors. It says that it feeds up to 5, that is a severe overstatement. My husband who eats a lot can probably finish it if he was really hungry. You cannot select flavors for the romano pizza. We liked the ricotta flavor the most. At this point, we were not that impressed and this is quite far for us so we also got some slices to make sure we gave Pizza Rock a good try before we decide to never come back again. I got the grandma of the day, a calabrian chili one to go. The grandma pizza dough was not particularly special, but it has honey. I liked the Calabrian chili one, it had a slightly crispy crust, the toppings were delicious, but I could not find it on the menu so that was annoying...
