This review is about service and class and who I will and will not trust to prepare what I consume. I ordered a Velvet ice with oat milk. The woman taking my order added "no whip" because she assumed I didn't want dairy at all. When I asked for the whip they, with a nasty attitude, told me I had to pay extra. That didn't make sense to me considering the photo shows whip cream included. They started having a conversation in the back about me for making this simple request pointing out what their menu shows. I then pulled up the menu, waited in line again, and I showed them the menu and the mobile app which both show whip included and which you actually have to deselect it and neither has an additional fee. The woman preparing my order acknowledged that she deselected it on my behalf since I asked for oat milk. At this point - this is absolutely not about the whip cream or the upcharge, it is the abhorrent service, the aggressive demeanor, and the unexplained disdain I was shown when I treated both women with nothing but respect from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out of the establishment. ATP the woman who took my order saw the issue and was going to resolve it by, of course, adding the included whip cream! However, the manager, DJ returned and interfered refusing to allow her to do so & going on a rant directed at me when I was not at all in communication with her. Then, as she was returning my order (which included a tip btw!!) she proceeded to attempt to insult me by saying, "if you don't have 70 cents to pay for this, just say so." For the record, the tip I left was more than the 70 cents so that obviously did not land well. Throughout this dumbfounding experience, I was standing there, my voice calm, not raised, in a store full of my customers (after I patiently waited in line a second time) at 10 months pregnant. We all have bad days, but on so many levels, this cannot be acceptable at any point. To insult someone to try to win a "debate" over a non-issue in an industry where some of us remember "the customer is always right," is despicable at best. I hope someone finds a training opportunity in this, but I will not return to ever find out. read more

This is the OG of all PJ's that have opened! They offer things on their menu that aren't universally available throughout the other locations & that's what keeps me venturing back here. Plus the customer service is always great! A seasonal drink that is my absolute FAV!!! If they have the ingredients out of season, I appreciate the young lady always willing to make it for me. Coffee was lukewarm and didn't have much ice. It was also very bitter. The lemonade had too much ice so a large cup was finished in only a few sips. The beignets were warm and fluffy but tasted doughy and underbaked in the middle. The inside had several different kinds of seatings. Outside seats were available too albeit without shades. Parking was free and store wasn't overcrowded. I wouldn't mind revisiting if in the area again but wouldn't go out of my way just to go there. Still a good Starbucks alternative. read more

Dare I say better than Starbucks? The coffee is fresh, rich, and comes in various flavors. I got the caramel velvet ice drink which is adjacent to a frappuccino. The drink was flavorful, creamy, and smooth. I really enjoy the ambience of the restaurant which is NewOrleans-themed. They also sell delicious beignets-- a NewOrleans staple. The coffee shop has New Orlean's jazz playing throughout the restaurant which sets the tone for a fun lighthearted chat. Customer service is also great and the order's typically come out pretty quickly. There is also an option to order online and pickup your order at the to-go station. Extremely slow service. Only one person taking orders. The coffee and food prepares moved at a glacial pace as if they didn't have a care in the world. Plan to take 20 minutes to even get your order. Also if you want milk or cream in your coffee you must order a Latte or Cappuccino. They do not supply any dairy to add to your coffee. The breakfast sandwiches are served cold unless you request for them to be warmed. Very small seating area. Their vegan oatmeal cookie tastes like your grandma's famous fresh baked cookies. It's so good, you won't even dare to think that it's vegan, because it tastes delicious. However, the iced matcha latte needs room for improvement. Apparently, they scale their liquid amounts to the ounce size of the cup. So, if you request a drink with ice, your drink will be filled to the top of the cup. If you order your drink without ice, your drink will be filled to the amount size you ordered for. I ordered a iced matcha latte with light ice. That's why the drink depicted looks like it's half gone already. Honestly, I didn't like that concept. The bathrooms were well lit and well designed the only drawback that one bathroom I wanted to did not have any toilet paper. Just a small thing that could be corrected. A little slice of New Orleans in Maryland...! I need more of this in my life! The coffee and beignets bring me back to NOLA, even though we're many miles away. My biscuit sandwich looks like it was going to be all biscuit and no filling, but it was all hidden well. It tasted great too! The beignets were a mix of puffy and too dense. That could have been due to the oil being recently changed though. Too much sugar as well, but that's technically authentic! LOL The coffee was the real winner. My iced chicory coffee was delicious, just the right bitterness, full of flavor. The café au laît was also well made and tasty. I waited over 20 mins for 3 iced lattes that I ordered ahead of time online, they still managed to make them bad. First sip I took was all sugar crumbled up at the bottom and it didn't have the oat milk or the syrup I had picked. My cups were not even filled as they should've been and no one there was attentive once I arrived there. The service was bad and my coffee was BAD, you could tell just by the color. I didn't have time to go back and argue with them and remake my coffees so I reached out and can't seem to get a hold of anyone for a refund. This is such a nice option if you're looking for a good drink & something to eat. We stopped in for beignets and something hot to drink and were not disappointed. This was my first time at PJs, and Dar and Darron provided excellent customer service ! It was late in the afternoon, and I was the only customer at that time, but they were both helpful, friendly and attentive. I went with an order of beignets and a chai latte with butter rum syrup. Both were really good. I like that they have a list of all the available syrups at the register, some were pretty unique (I think, I'm not really a coffee drinker). The store was clean with available seating for those wanting to dine in. It's in a plaza, so there was also plenty of parking available. read more

I love PJs coffee. I especially like the beginners! Most of the coffee beverages are good. However, I wanted a version of caramel macchiato. They said no problem they can make one. I asked for extra caramel. What I got was nothing like a caramel macchiato. It was bitter with not a hint of caramel flavor. I headed home. Mixed it up with a stir to see if that would improve things. It barely made a difference. It was less bitter, a bit of sweetness came though but really not enough to identify the caramel. The egg, sausage, biscuit was tasty if a bit small. Overall, I really enjoyed the food, but the drink was a fail. I think in the future I will stick to drinks on the menu. The spinach and feta croissant was filling, flaky, and well seasoned and went well with the coffee. The Bowie area is so fortunate to have a PJ's Coffee! The New Orleans flavors, tastes, vibes, and music are the essential ingredients. PJ's French Roast coffee is one of my favorites, but from time to time I try the other roasts and flavors. The Mardi Gras blend is wonderful too. I typically do not drink iced coffee but the Mocha Velvet Ice coffee slushy drink is phenomenal. The fact that I can choose between 14 dairy choices for the iced blend takes it over the moon and keeps calories (and lactose) in check. The coffee is on point, but I buried the lead because the addictive beignets are made to order! The beignets, topped with copious amounts of confectioners sugar, are the best I have had outside of New Orleans. Served three to an order, they are little pastries of heaven. Slightly crispy outside and super soft doughy interior. Even if you live miles away, the beignets are worth the drive. Service is always with a smile. Since the beignets and coffee drinks are freshly made to order, be prepared for a short wait. The prices are fair and they have a app that is tops among coffee places. My only issue is that they do not have a fixings bar with sweetener, cream, stirrers, or even napkins. Customers have to ask staff for those items (seems strange, and is a needless hassle considering this is a coffee house). During Covid that may have made sense, but the time has come to rethink this approach, please. Lastly, the vibe and music are wonderful. They play a New Orleans jazz, zydeco, soul, and standards focused playlist. I had to make a quick trip to Bowie and it's becoming one of my favorite places to visit. So I decided to treat myself to a solo brunch in a quaint cafe. PJ's Coffee was the perfect choice. Great reviews and the Cuban Sandwich is what really motivated me. :) yum. It was so good, the carnitas were moist and flavorful. The Beignets were the best I've ever tasted thus far. (No offense Nola) they were fresh out the grease. The staff was welcoming and patient. I told him it was my first time and he said "Great welcome and thanks for coming." I wanted a blended coffee with my usual Hazelnut but also paired with something different and I was recommended the Vanilla Bean which was a great choice. It's a coffee shop so the mellow vibes were expected, the only thing I was missing was my laptop. Definitely will be returning (*whispers* tomorrow) for the Beignets. read more

Decided to support local and check out PJ's Coffee in Fairwood. The staff was very kind during my visit. My Americano was a little too watery & they had no problem remaking jt for me. The coffee shop is spacious, so you can definitely get some work done in there. I heard great things about their desserts, so I will be back to try those beignets! read more

My service was always wonderful here and even today my service was ok. However what I didn't appreciate was the disrespect the employees showed one of their own coworker's and for it to happen right in front of me was heartbreaking. No apology no nothing. Pj's in Bowie is truly a staple, the beignets are served hot and are much fluffier and a much better quality batter than that of Cafe De Monde in THEEEE New Orleans. Those beignets I often found that the mixture was lacking, think pancake batter without the fluffiness and the butter. These are by. far the best. beignets I have ever had, I was taught in New Orleans that in order to fully enjoy the beignets you must also order a cup of hot coffee and dip the beignets in order to eliminate the dryness of the pastry, however here at PJ's I had no need for this. I did enjoy a cup of the buttery rum latte but had no desire to dip as they both deserved homage independently. The beignets were so filling I only needed one and will enjoy the rest at a later time....hopefully I can figure out how to reheat while preserving them. My only gripe is the need for more spaced out seating but maybe that is what provides and adds to the intimacy of this space. I felt bad having to share a table with another group that were there for bible study. Some of the tables are awkwardly spaced and it was difficult to find a table that would protect me and was a good distance from the door as it is getting chilly. Either way I will return and I do know that expanding establishments can at some times impede on the quality of the product. read more

I have been wanting to check out this coffee shop for months and was super excited we went today. When my wife seen that they had beignets she knew she had to go and try them. At first I was skeptical about trying them because I've been disappointed before. But baby they were spectacular and we got some for a friend and took some home. I got the green tea mojito with the beignets which both were a 10/10. One of my sons got the sausage and egg sandwich with a peach Palmer tea he said both were also a 10/10. My oldest got a chocolate chip cookie and a coffee drink(he didn't like it because he's not use to coffee) he enjoyed the cookie. My wife also enjoyed the beignets and her drink. Our bestfriend even said that the being were great and she had to reheat hers once we got them to her. Overall we give this place a solid 10. They have a seating area for you to dine, eat and work. The staff seemed pretty friendly. The space is clean. They do get pretty pack. read more

My goodness! I have never had a tougher, hard to chew, almost broke my tooth cinnamon bagel in life. The bagel was so hard like it was made for dogs. Maybe they don't toast them. Perhaps they put them in a microwave as it felt like when you leave bread in a micro waaaay too long and it makes it inedible. Geez! I thought the Bix bagels were tough. Wow!
