Went in last week after attending a show in Merrillville. Thought it looked like a little nice place so I figured I would give it a try. Needless to say I will not be back. Let me set the scene if you haven't been. The building is a stand alone building that once walking in feels like a flashback to the 80's fast food style restaurants of the era. It looks like that was the last time anyone cleaned the place or did any sort of updating. There was only 2 people working a guy and a girl who both seemed more interested in talking to each other than taking care of customers. There was only one other customer in the building who was waiting only for a take out meal for himself. After finally getting my order taken by the female employee me and the other customer waiting both made small talk. After about 5 minutes after I ordered he began to comment how long he had been waiting. From his comments it took him almost 20 minutes to get his food (only customer besides me). After he finally got his food and left I proceeded to wait another 10 minutes (about 24 minutes overall) before my food was ready. The female employee just said "here it is" when giving me the food as if waiting almost as long as an episode of Parks and Rec is the normal time to cook a burger at a quick service restaurant. But I finally had my food and sat down to enjoy it. I always order my items plain as I find restaurant condiments seem cheap, so how happy I was that they smeared it with every condiment imaginable. When I went up to the counter (still the only person in the place) she proceeds to say that I ordered it that way and that she remembers exactly. After a short altercation she said she had to go talk to the manager (I am guessing that was the guy since that was the only other person in there). By this point I was done and was out the door. The fries that I ate were cold which I assume is from the fact my order took so long. I assume they were waiting on the burger that I could have went to the ranch, slaughtered, de-boned, pressed, and cooked in the amount of time it would have taken them to make a proper order. Of all the gyro/burger joints in Northwest Indiana this is probably the worst experience I have ever had in this style of restaurant. My recommendation to the staff is to spend more time taking care of your customers and your establishment and make some serious changes. I for one will not be back. read more

This is a little sandwich place next door to Andrean High School (my alma mater). It is the only place I know of that serves home made from scratch French fries. Very delicious. To go with this delicacy is a large selection of sandwiches & dinners. The staff is super friendly & helpful. I had lunch there today & stop by often. I would recommend this place highly. Great food is served here! We took a day trip to Merrillville and we stumbled across this place on Yelp. The reviews were right! The prices are not bad. For 6 people we ordered 2 gyros, 2 Italian beefs, a hot dog, and a cheeseburger. We had 3 orders of fries which was more than enough for the group we had. The gyros were huge and tasty! The beefs were also delicious as I was told by the guys who ate them. Wet napkins would have been welcomed by us. Sandwiches were messy, but so worth it! read more

They consistently get your order wrong or omit items. Whether you go through the drive thru or go in. The food is good but check your order 1st for accuracy. read more

I know that there are Gyros places everywhere, and realistically they all probably get there meat from the same place. Pj's does them right though... nice hearty portions awesome fries... they do not skimp on anything! Including great service and friendliness... I have never left disappointed! read more

I use to visit here often under the first ownership. I must say I am not happy with the food. They have gone up on prices and the food quantity has decreased. I went in to order fries, you do not get the same amount and the fries are cooked in advance and when customers order they re-cook them which leave the friend loaded with grease. ughhh read more

Just ordered my 3rd meal from p&j's. The 1st two meals were excellent. Delivery was expedient. The food looked pleasing to the eye upon opening the Styrofoam container, the fries were fresh and flavorfull (a little soggy). Would've recommended them to anyone. This time, deliver was as fast as always. I opened the bags to find paper bags this time with the sandwiches wrapped in tin foil and wax paper, leaking grease all through the bottom of the paper bag. Which of course fell through the bag when i picked it up. The fries tasted reheated in a microwave, the sandwiches looked sloppily made. They forgot the jalapeño poppers, and of course the Styrofoam containers are gone now. I don't know what happened in the 2 weeks since I last ordered, but I wouldn't advise anyone to order from here unless you just enjoy throwing your money away. Because that's what I did with my food. I called about the jalapeño poppers, and they asked if I wanted to come get them.... Sure I'm going to put my semi warm food down and come get them tonight! He said he would keep a credit for a week for me....Keep it! I'm done with this place. I've had philly steak and lemonade bring me a straw many times without asking. P&j's couldn't even bring something I paid for. I doubt this place is in business much longer if they don't step their game up. read more
