I was craving a gyro. Found this place and the service was great. The decor is nice and the store seems clean. The prices are expensive but you get a nice portion. The gyros was just okay. I also got some deep fried gyros and it was tough to eat, so I didn't eat it. I might visit again when I get the craving. read more

Best gyro and tzatziki I've ever tried in my life. Not only is so well prepared but also the meat has such a great quality and it's cut with such a graceful almost artistic precision. Delicious food always and amazing customer service. They serve HUGE portions of meat and the special home made recipe tzatziki sauce is the most delicious I've ever tried. Food there is always carefully served, fresh and hot! I've eaten at King Gyro for five years and it's been always a great culinary experience. I've even catered my birthday with King Gyro! Steve, the owner surely knows how to run a business; he keeps the place pristine and really cares for all the customers. You can tell it's very well managed and quality is never compromised. Well lit place. Food is good. The cashiers have great customer service never had a bad experience. They patient with what ever you order. The Greek chicken salads are delicious the gyros are good too. Great for Merrillville, IN just feel like they close to early. Overall clean establishment, quick food, staff and cook are cool. I've been a customer of this restaurant since the mid 1990's. Over the years they changed how they operate, and how the place looks. A few years ago they added a drive-thru. The previous owners and/or management accepted credit & debit cards with no extra charge to the customer. Not now. You get charged $1 if you don't have cash. It's the 21st century, and this places charges customers to pay for their food. Ridiculous. I do not recommend this place anymore. After my experience today with King Gyros I had to write a review. Today I had a craving for gyros so I decided to give King's another chance. I ordered enough food for the family this time. I ordered one gyros platter, with two extra small cups of tzatziki sauce. They charged $.75 for each extra tiny 1oz cup. The platter comes with french fries, two pieces of pita bread, sliced onions, tomatoes, and a piece of feta cheese. You get two tiny 1oz sized tzatziki sauce cups. All other gyros places in the area give 2-2oz sized cups of tzatziki with a platter. Not here though. I also ordered a platter of "chicken gyros", which is made from chicken and seasoned with herbs and spices used in regular gyros meat. The chicken gyros platter comes with fries, lettuce, tomatoes, a piece of feta cheese, and pre-packaged honey-mustard SALAD DRESSING. Yes, salad dressing. A good while ago, under better management, King's Gyros served what seemed to be a restaurant made honey-mustard sauce that was very god and was served in the same small cups as the traditional tzatziki sauce. I also ordered fried mushrooms. The platters now costs $14. That's the highest price for a gyros platter I've encountered in northwest Indiana. I got my food and went home. I took the food out of the bag, and that's when I saw that the honey-mustard sauce for the chicken gryos was actually a typical lunch sized pouch of honey-mustard salad dressing. Not good. I expect sauces to be made in-house with much better quality than pre-made packaged food, especially at $14 for the platter. As per usual the fries were on the verge of no warmth and they were getting soggy. They really need to package the fries separately, AWAY from the warm gyros meat. The amount of chicken gyros meat was about enough to make two regular gyros but no more, and each sandwich was not very big. I also ordered some fried mushrooms and they were good, still very warm and crunchy. They were put in their own bag and stayed warm without getting soggy. The regular gyros platter. Uh, where's the MEAT? There was about enough meat to make a regular sized single gyros sandwich with some left over to make maybe a 1/4 of the second gyro. Yep, that was it. $14 for a "platter" that is supposed to be enough for two good sized gyros sandwiches, and typically a little bit left over. That's how other regional gyros restaurants do it. But NOT HERE though, no. There was no way near the amount of meat needed to make two full sized single gyros sandwiches. That's pathetic. And the quality? It was ok, but not moist as it should be if the meat was freshly sliced from the rotisserie. Compared to other gyros restaurants, and how King's USED TO be, this "platter" was more like a regular large single sandwich with an extra pita, for the $14! And those small "cups" of tzatziki sauce? Are they kidding?! I really love tzatziki sauce, so that's a big issue for me. This place gives the SMALLEST little cups I've ever seen. The cups are HALF the size of what other gyros restaurants give, which are 2 ounce cups. The cups this restaurant gives are 1 ounce, that's HALF the size. And, not only do they give HALF the amount of sauce, they have the nerve to charge $.75 for each additional "cup". So I paid $1.50 more to get two extra sauces, so I could get the same amount the other places include with no extra charge. I will NEVER go back to King's. I'm done, and will not be giving that restaurant another chance. The quality of the food is mediocre, not how it used to be. The quantity of food for the price is ridiculous. In total I paid $35 with tax. Not worth it. Another gyros place that I go to, depending on where in the area I am, is Mr. Greek Gyros in Merrillville. That place gives a HUGE amount of food with their platters, and their fries are excellent. The fries are unpeeled potatoes so some fries have that nice crispy potato skin crunch, and the amount of fries is massive, great for french fry lovers. The price for their gryos platter is $13, a dollar less but has MORE gyros meat and double the tzatziki sauce. Also, there is a restaurant in Winfield, IN named, "Chef Nick's Eatery". Once in a while they have a special for a single gyros sandwich for $5. It's really good. If you're very hungry you can get two for $10 and it's VERY filling. read more

I wanted to try something new and this was as new as you get in this part of town. The special of the day was a gyros plate. Two bucks off on Wednesday. There was so much food they couldn't shove anything else in the box. The large crinkle cut fries were very well done but not crispy? There was a lot of big chunky slices of meat and two cups of sauce. It was pretty good. The onion and tomato were on the side. The soda was extra sweet. I had to water it down. But it's not a bad joint for being on the outskirts of a rough neighborhood. read more
