Bought a complete off marketplace and noticed after the fact that the pivots were pretty busted. I knew of another skate shop that wasn't too far, but I was hoping to find a decent alternative. Nbd. Reasons. Anyway, what I found was WAY better than just a decent alternative. The shop is super clean - everything you need, nothing you don't - and the repair was completed in less than 5 mins. Just enough time to have a quick and friendly conversation. And when I asked what I owed? "Don't worry about it, man, I got you." Absolutely made my day, and those five minutes made a lifelong customer out of me. I had a badddddd kingpin problem that I couldn't get fixed. My first time in the shop, Matt happily took my board to the back and quickly had serviced both trucks. They had extra baseplates there that worked and he used those and didn't charge me. I asked for ledge spot recommendations and Matt showed me pics on his phone of the good ones in the area. Barely even a real skate shop. I went in while putting together a board for my daughter. I bought new wheels, bearings, and grip tape. I asked if I could pay the guy there to regrip the deck for me and he gave me attitude, totally blew me off, and said no. I went home and did it myself in 10min. Man, I have to say this place is awesome. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. I took my 12+ year cruiser board in and asked some questions about potential upgrades and issues. The guys took it in, examined it, and even cleaned it for me. They fixed it up a bit and didn't even charge me. Extremely satisfied. Will be back for sure. 10/10 read more

I've been shopping at PLA since 2006 when they were across from folsom high school in the Safeway parking lot. Simply put it's the best skate shop in sac and possibly Northern California. They give back to their community and provide an excellent and safe environment for kids and adults alike who happen to love one of the most unifying sports in the world. SKATEBOARDING!!! Gonna start off by saying that I live in Elk Grove and PLA is about a good 35-40 minutes away from me. I consider PLA my local shop and the only skateshop in all of Sacramento that I will support. One of the things that I really liked about PLA the first time I stepped foot in their store a few years back, like Julia said, they don't make you feel uncomfortable like some other shops. They welcome you into the store, help answer any questions, and they don't sit there and give you the stare that'll make you feel bad if you don't buy anything. The guys that work there (Ben and Jason) are really personable and they'll chat it up with you and make sure you feel at home. Another thing I like about the store is that this shop is all about skateboarding and only skateboarding. They have a good selection of boards and hardware and they always stock on up on gear from skateboarder-owned clothing companies, especially locally owned ones, like Lurk Hard. Not only are they core and true to skateboarding, they're all about supporting the local skateboarding brands. The shop itself is clean, simple, and straight-forward. Nothing over the top and unnecessary. No huge posters or cardboard cut-outs. The only posters they have are of local pro skateboarders, most of whom frequent the shop. Their new location is a bit deeper into the Folsom area and it's a bit hard to find at first, but when you do spot it, you know you'll find the gem in the rough. Parking can be a bit tough as most of the spots in front of the shop or near the shop are timed-spots that belong to the neighboring businesses. But, as a skateboarder, I'm pretty used to parking pretty far from a skate spot. Haha. As a skater growing up, I always wished to have a shop that I could just come to hang out at and feel in the element. Years later, that shop for me came to be PLA. I'd definitely suggest PLA over any other shop in Sacramento and most definitely over the mall shops. Support your local skateshops....and by local skateshop, I mean PLA! read more

I had a wonderful experience at PLA this morning. I bought a skateboard online for my son's birthday and it came unassembled. Matt said that he would build it for us even though he usually on builds boards that are purchased there. He immediately took our board into the back room and in 15 minutes he had built and adjusted the board to my son's specifications, and he charged me nothing even after I insisted, he kept denying. I live out of town but I promised myself that whenever I am in town I will go purchase something from them. A small independent store that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in skating. So basically this store is the best well mannered staff by bar, they were so kind to customers while having to deal with such hectic phone calls about the quick strike black pigeons that came out. And even though I didn't end up being able to get them they took care of me and I wouldn't go anywhere else you'd would be trippin. I bought My Son's first skate board here. They a have great costumer service. They set up the board for his a for his age and skill level. My wife and kids got me a board from Zumiez for my birthday. They did a horrible job set the board up bubbles in the grip tape, truck mounting bolts sticking up, and wheels didn't turn very well. I brought my board to PLA skateboarding. When I think of PLA, I could only think of nice things to say. It's a great place to buy shoes, nike sbs, skateboards, hats, sweaters, t-shirts, etc. The staff there are EXTREMELY friendly and knowledgeable. What I like most about this place is that they don't make you feel uncomfortable or feel forced to make a purchase. We have been coming to PLA for years back to when they were located on Prairie City Rd and had never once been dissatisfied with this shop. My wife bought a skateboard for my daughters birthday but she didn't know I had already gotten her another gift. Tried to return the skateboard with receipt and was told they don't accept returns. There is nowhere posted in the store that there is no returns for assembled boards nor did they tell us that. Employee was rude about it and pretty much said they don't sell assembled boards even though they could so they couldn't take it back. read more

I was blown away. I flew into Sacremento without a board, and figured (because I have been out this way before) that I wouldn't find a place that would have what I needed and still be affordable. I stopped into a local clothing shop that had a couple boards and asked if there was anywhere to go where I could get a complete at a reasonable price. They recommended PLA. I stopped in and asked what their prices were like, and ended up with a beautiful Pizza deck, Thunder Trucks, Bones bearings, and Spitfire Classic wheels. I added Mob griptape, and they included hardware and set it up (beautifully) for me for around $140. I get to skate a board that's an absolute work of art, and I still have a little bit of spending cash, with which I am buying a few beers. Cheers! read more

I just left this place and I got to say it's one of the nicest skate shops I have been in. First of all the customer service is excellent, the selection of boards are amazing. And don't even get me started on the shoe selection, I feel like I'm at some shoe kingdom. The place is so clean you can have a full meal course on the floor. It seems like the skate Gods crafted this shop and bestow this wonderful place to enhanced the town of Folsom. Going back to the customer service, it was so good I felt like I was Kanye west with all the attention and help I was getting. And something else, they have some nice shirts also, and good prices. This has to be the coolest shop around. Went by before they opened, Ben was taking shots for their website, let me in. Told him I needed a board for my 7 yr old's bday today. He said bring him back in this afternoon, he was getting 200 more decks in by then. We did, my son picked out the board he wanted, and then Ben took he and is three buddies into the shop and he showed them how to assemble it while he did it. Such a great experience, great service. Can't say enough good things about this establishment. My husband only wears one kind of shoe while not at work (Nike Koston's) and they always have a really good selection. The fellas that work there are always super helpful and friendly. The outside may seem unassuming but the inside is always clean and incredibly neat, looks like a showroom.
