Tatiana, Zander and Jeff were all very helpful in bringing me up to speed on how to maintain my Fat Tire Bike (which I didn't buy from them). Tat got me set up with an appointment after spending time with me demonstrating how certain pumps and such worked. Zander did the work on my bike, was extremely helpful and generous with his time and made sure I had a good handle on certain aspects of my bike. We are on vacation for a few weeks in the lake placid area. I brought my bike hoping to get in many miles here as soon as we arrived my bike started acting up. Made an appointment with placid planet and was super satisfied with justin's work! We showed up and he had the bike finished on site in no more than 30 minutes. This shop has helped me out for 15 years now. If I have a problem with my bike, and NEED it right away, often they will fix it right away. The mechanics always explain what is the best (not most expensive) component for my bike. As other people have said, its worth it just to see Kenny, the owner. I bought an expensive cycling bib 2 weeks before Ironman. I got a rip in it, and they didn't have a replacement, but sewed it up for me!! My wife and I stayed the weekend for Ironman and spent a couple of days exploring the town after the race. We visited Placid Planet and wanted to shop their clothes and inquire about mountain biking for the off season on another trip. Not a single employee left their seat at the back of the shop (surfing the internet?!) and we had to initiate a conversation with them without just a simple acknowledgement or hello. They acted like we interrupted their time. No good mountain biking suggestions and they were very unwelcoming overall. Note to owner: inattentive and rude employees lose valuable business and even worse don't keep an eye on theft. read more

I love this place. I should ride more so things will break so I have more reason to shop here. Owner -- Kenny -- is often on the floor, but all the staff is friendly and helpful. Example: yesterday I bought some chain oil and after paying and getting thanked by the guy at the register I had a conversation with the owner. Hailing from Brooklyn, I'm almost sad I can't find a bike shop this good in my local area. I stopped in to see if they could help me with some fitting issues without high hopes they could help me the same day. In the end, not only did I get a professional fit, I didn't have to commit any acts of grand theft to afford it. I don't know why but it makes me so happy not to walk into a bike shop full of bros who couldn't care less that you have issues with your bike that, god forbid, you don't already know how to fix. This is the best bike shop in AMERICA. My wife & I shipped my bike from Vegas for Ironman Lake Placid and the DI2 died. Kenny provided three options while offering to loan me his own ($6K) bike!!!! I ended up renting a bike from an awesome mechanic there and they fitted it, customized it and rented my wife a bike for the weekend. The entire staff is amazing. I think this is the premiere shop for bicycle kit and services. Everyone is friendly and knowledgeable. I really enjoy talking to the staff whenever I visit. Living 8 miles away, it is well worth the trip whether I am on my bike to pick up something for my current ride or in a car to grab some gear to handle my own mechanical work... The selection is on the higher end and could be intimidating to newbies to the world of cycling. I hope that will not discourage anyone, however, as every member of the staff is more than willing to share their passion and knowledge for the sport of cycling. If you are not from the area there a maps and/or the staff that can help you find the perfect route. There is such a diversity of rides in this area, the choice can be quite daunting. This shop has saved some of my days. When an urgent mechanical issue has come up, they have been greatly helpful. I would recommend this place to all levels of cyclists, from the curious to the world champion. It is the right shop for everyone. read more

Rented mtn bikes and the people here were SO friendly. Did I mention that that the hard tail bikes we rented were awesome?!?!?! Much better quality than the "other" shop in town at a significantly lower price. A bunch of beg/intermediate trails really close to the shop. Great for a 1/2 ride. read more
