Been wanting to write a review for this place for a few weeks now. This was our second time ordering from here for my dad's and sister-in-law's birthday and it was amazing. We ordered only the Ooh-Lam platter the first time and loved the pork adobo and chicken inasal so much. When I called to have the platter customized for our second visit, the lady was super nice and let us have half pork adobo and half chicken inasal ! Sandwich was super yummy even as leftovers! I was excited to find this place in Metuchen! It's a quick drive from the train station. No seating when I was last there except 2-3 seats for when you're waiting for your order. Lumpia was pretty good, pancit and lechon kawali were also great. We also got tocino- not as sweet as what I'm used to, but still had good flavor. Get the halo-halo too! this is the perfect place to get take out on your way home after work or after going to the Menlo mall. I actually had things to do in the mall but didn't want any of the greasy options there so I looked up take out near me on yelp and found this place. There was a crowd outside but it seems like no one was waiting long for their food. My order was out within 15-20 minutes of me paying. It honestly felt like the people working there never stops to take a break! I got the pork adobo rice bowl and the food smelt soo good on the way home. The portion was a little bigger than I thought it would be and it's enough for me to eat for lunch and save for dinner. The pork was so tender and the rice absorbed the leftover oil/flavor when I ate it. 10/10, definitely will come back again to try their other stuff. read more

We had the Pork Longganisa Specialty Rice Bowl which was $16.99 and had a very small portion of Longganisa, and the few inside were sliced in half/butterflied to make it look like a full portion. It was not flavorful and the egg was overcooked. I felt sick after eating it as well, I'm not sure if the food was sitting around since the morning, but this will most likely be the last time we order from here. read more

The food was between okay and good, with a lot of potential to be incredible. Definitely plain and simple currently. The Beef Mechado only came with 2 pieces of meat, but the flavor was good. The Crispy Pork Heaven and Pork Adobo used the exact same pork, but the pork adobo seems to be just tossed in the sauce at the end, so it didn't have that much flavor. The pork was very good though, and I would just want more sauce or mang tomas on the side. The Ube cookie tasted faintly of Ube and had a cake texture. This is a hole-in-the-wall shop with no dine-in and limited parking. This place feels very catered to the American palate, and I'm sure would be very good from that perspective. For a Filipino palate, I would love for these dishes to have more flavor, or at least more sabaw for all the rice. This is a new restaurant, and I will be rooting for them and their long-term success! read more

Great new find for us Pinoys from Jersey City. If you know anything about Pinoys in Jersey City, we know good Filipino food. We may not have the best restaurants this week, but we'll have it the next. Filipino establishments come and go, but since we have a high population of Filipinos, we're certain somebody will attempt to take the crown. But living in JC, we only want/need consistency. We want to know when we drive down Westside Ave, we are spoiled knowing we'll bump into multiple options where we can stop by and pick up a few dishes we don't have time to cook that day. But since we are so populated with Pinoys, we have Jollibee or Chow King to fall back on when we have that Pinoy food craving. Fortunately, that's the privilege we have as a Pinoy/JC resident. But when we leave our Pinoy abundant area, we're faced with the same conundrum our fellow Pinoys all over Jersey suffer. It's Filipino deserts we Pinoy Americans eventually find ourselves when traveling, especially in south Jersey. Then there is Plain & Simpol (where I found in Yelp). They provide the Pinoy food oasis when we are collectively, out of our elements. Even us spoiled JC folks long for Pinoy food when we shop outside of our comfort zones. This place not only makes good Pinoy hot food, they take it up a level by creating new and innovative Pinoy desserts. Next time you are shopping at Lotte, stop by this spot. You won't be disappointed. We had the crispy pork dish. Some of the best lechon kawali (silog) with lechon sauce smothered and over rice with a salad. We ate all of it in the parking lot, then went back to buy 3 orders of fresh out of the oven cassava cake, 3 orders of Ube cheesecake, and an Ube bubble tea. Best Pinoy food, south of JC. If they dare to open up shop in JC with the same passion, I'll have to write another review crowning them. This is our new and hopefully permanent "central" Jersey Pinoy stop. read more

Don't know where to start. I love trying to foods and different culture meals.. I have been dying to have some more Filipino food after a coworker brought a few appetizers in one day. I have been seeing about the great reviews on Plain & Simpol and I decided I needed to try it myself. I walk in, and the staff is very friendly! I mentioned I have no idea what I want but to make me anything that they would recommend to a first timer. Out comes the short rib beef mechado.. the flavor has not left my mouth 24 hours later. It was fall off the bone heaven. It really was one of the best new meals I had in years. I was instantly hooked. I took my time eating it because I didn't want it to end. I am going back again this week. I want to try everything, I believe I will do the crispy pork bowl next. These are the type of places that deserve all the recognition! Took me a few mins to locate as it was in a small plaza across the larger plaza (just a block up). Ordered through their website which was great. Had to wait just a bit for the food but overall the service and friendliness of staff was very good! Now for the food- it was VERY generous and delicious!!! My family really enjoyed it and reminds me of home. I love sisig so this was definitely a treat for me. My Filipino husband says it's better than all the other local places he tried. We previously ordered their party sized platters, that were excellent. Was at a convention nearby and found this place due to some great reviews. They did NOT disappoint. A group of us didn't realize it was take-out only and placed a big order near the end of the night. They did everything for us! The food was delicious - right up there with some of my fam's cooking - and the manager even met us outside when we realized we had forgotten something. Can't speak for the actual restaurant building in particular as we ordered takeout and my friend picked it up - but the food itself was delicious! We got one of the party platters, which was actually a really good deal (definitely good to order if you're having a party and don't want to cook!). The pork and chicken were very tender and flavorful. The garlic rice was also pretty addicting and went over well as leftovers the next day! My only complaint was that the lumpia felt a tad bit undercooked, however I will be back to try some other dishes and give the lumpia a second chance! As I have said in my previous review the food here is delicious and well made. It also comes at a great price and volume. Unfortunately I am going to have to keep the 3 star rating. They simpoly cannot handle the lunch rush. I suppose that's a good sign of business but they need to make some personnel changes or additions. I have been here twice since my previous review. One time was during dinner and I had no issue picking up my food. The other was during lunch and I had to wait 15 minutes past my designated pick up time. My advice: avoid this place if you have a limited amount of time for your lunch break or order AT LEAST an hour in advance. read more

Ordered pork sisig and beef short rib mechado. Mechado is kind of like a beef stew with potato, carrot, bell peppers. Really soft and tender. Sisig is chopped and tossed pork dish with sweet onion chunks. It had fat and pork skin, something I wouldn't normally go for, but it's really delicious. Rating this place 5 stars! I discovered Plain & Simpol recently on a business trip to NJ and I'm glad it was the first place I decided to eat at. The staff greeted me the moment I walked in the door and asked how everything was going; they also bid me adieu on my way out. The place is clean, open and has a great refrigerated drink selection.
