I've been wanting to go to this place for YEARS and my friends newly moved near here so I was able to finally try it and they did not disappoint. The dishes were bursting with flavor and they had some Thai street food as well which I enjoyed. Service was great. Ambiance was....ok - from the outside it looks like a normal restaurant and inside they decorated it really really well. I wouldn't say fine dining but definitely a nice hole in the wall type place. We got the following: Phuket Appetizer for 2 - included 2 chicken satay (delicious), 2 curry puffs (good, but I don't like potato so meh for me), noodle salad (SO good), 2 vegetable spring rolls (decent) Sautéed noodles Phuket style- honestly didn't know what I was expecting but they definitely taste very street food style and I really enjoyed them. They're very different from the regular Thai noodles. Green curry- spicy but tolerable and tasty!! If you're not really a spice person, would not recommend. It came with white rice Thai Fried Rice - I tasted like an onion and tomato roast base in this. Typically fried rice I feel is a bit drier but here it was not saucy but there was something in there that made the rice burst with flavor. Matcha yuzu- def recommend! A nice light fizzy drink. ​I ordered six entrees and a few appetizers over the phone. When I arrived, I compared the receipt against the list on my phone and noticed an extra item we had been charged for. When I pointed this out, the employee insisted I ordered it, saying "someone called it in." I told him it was me who called, showed him my list, and explained I didn't even know what the item was. He still refused to back down. After giving him three chances to correct it, I finally asked if he was calling me a liar. A woman next to him--who I suspect is a family member--just stood by. ​When I told them to remove the item and refund the charge, the employee tried to take the entire bag to the back. I insisted he take the item out in front of me, as taking it to the back seemed incredibly suspicious. I only took the food because I had people waiting at home and didn't want to disappoint them. ​While the food here might be popular, management only cares about money, not customers. Everyone would always tell me this was the best Thai food in the area. And it was good (you get solid portion sizes and the food is flavorful), but I do think it was a bit overhyped for me. Some of the menu items did seem a little hit or miss. The pad kra pao was one of our favorite dishes, was spicy and had the perfect ratio of spice to chicken to vegetables. On the other hand, skip the golden curry puff, it was way too doughy. The green curry and drunken noodles were both good, and we asked for them to be extra spicy. It was a little harder to tell with the green curry, but that's also a coconut-based curry, so it kind of masks the spice a bit. We asked for increased spice for the Thai fried rice as well, and it was not spicy at all. My biggest con with this place was the service. We asked for extra napkins for the table and they brought out one napkin for a table of 5, and this happened on multiple occasions with several people. They also did not switch our plates out between appetizers and entrées, so it felt a bit odd to eat our entrées on small plates. They were also slightly stingy with water for the table. read more

Came here as a recommendation. A deceptively large venue in the heart of Metuchen. Metered street parking all around, & some paid lots nearby. Bright, but warm lighting, friendly but fast staff. Interior truly embraces the culture with lots of gold & even a golden temple shrine as the center piece. The interior of this place is truly beautiful. A lot of Thai Asian people there. The place was very busy, but extremely efficient. It's always a good point when the local culture has a heavy customer presence. This place is BYOB, but they do have their own Mocktail menu. We had Duck Honey, Pineapple Fried Rice, Duck Pad Thai, & a Lychee Iced Tea. Everything was AMAZING! I completely understand why this place is so popular. One of the best Thai restaurants in the area with flavors that are comparable to the famous Thai restaurants in NYC! I usually get the shrimp drunken noodles and they consistently deliver on quality and bold, authentic flavors. Dinner here was a mixed experience. The service definitely wasn't the best. When we arrived, we were told there would be a 5 - 10 minute wait for our group. They seemingly forgot about us even after I checked back in with them. When we were finally seated, we were brought to a room in the back that was rather dilapidated looking compared to the aesthetically pleasing rooms in the front. The wait staff did not check on us often and there were several communication issues when we were ordering. On the other hand, the drinks and food that we ordered were excellent. The ambience is amazing from the lighting to decor. Best part of the meal had to be the roti Thai style. The massaman chicken curry soup it came with as the dipping sauce was delicious and hot. The Thai tea was really sweet but had the right Thai flavor notes. I got the regular size for $5. Drunken noodles had a kick to it but not spicy. It was kind of oily too, and the beef was dry and very chewy. This was about a 3/5 for me, average drunken noodles with a good kick to it. Been on the hunt for a new Thai spot and this one will do the trick! So many times when I've ordered takeout, the noodles aren't as flavorful and more on the oily side. Luckily, this was a hit! I got the drunken noodles (spicy) and red curry (spicy) both of which were packed with flavor! I would recommend the curry over the noodles if you're stuck between the two, but can't go wrong either way. Generous portions! Ambiance This restaurant is a mix of traditional meets modern. In the center of the restaurant is a shrine/ ornate piece of art and hanging from the ceiling were little golden hearts. It was light and airy and the sweet sauce gave a nice contrast to the blank canvas of the tofu. Shrimp Filo Deep fried shrimp wrapped in filo dough. Quite frankly, the best appetizer we ordered for the table. ( would highly recommend) The filo was perfectly flaky and crunchy not overly fried and the shrimp encased inside was nice and hot . Not rubbery at all . It's definitely a dish that should be eaten at the restaurant and not for take away. - For drinks we ordered Thai iced teas size (Large) . When they came out, it was literally served in a huge beer stein . Definitely get your money's worth with a large size For the Main Course, I order the Kee Mao ( Drunken Noodle) dish and opted for Tofu. - The dish was really good. Very aromatic, with a great balance of the medium spice heat and fresh veggies. The tofu again, was a great vessel for the oyster sauce . Had a great time with a friend- the decor was really nice, loved the lanterns and lights hanging from the ceiling and gold temple statue in the middle. We got the Thai spring rolls for appetizers, which were perfectly crispy and the sweet dipping sauce was delish. I had the drunken noodles and pad preaw wan. Both were delicious and flavorful- my friend's spice tolerance is on the lower side lol and she found the level 1 spice more spicy than she expected so keep that in mind when ordering. I had the chicken Pad Kee Mao at Phattra Thai and was impressed! The dish was flavorful with just the right amount of spice (medium) and the noodles were perfectly cooked not too soft, not too chewy. Pad kee mao has always been my top go to dishes when I order Thai. They added mushrooms here (other places I tried didn't). The balance of basil, chili, and veggies made every bite satisfying. Definitely one of the better Thai spots in NJ I've tried recently. I'll be back to explore more of the menu! read more

I originally was in the area for some ramen, but the interior of this restaurant caught my eye so chose to eat here instead. This thai food is one of the better ones I've had in NJ. I got the drunken noodles which had these fat noodles that soaked up the delicious sauce. I think these noodles were definitely bigger than other places. I recently visited Phattra Thai Restaurant in Metuchen, NJ, and it was a fantastic find--especially since my favorite spot, Mai Thai in Woodbridge, closed down years ago. Since its closure, I've been searching for something comparable in central/north New Jersey, and Phattra comes impressively close--it's now my go-to for that genuine taste. The restaurant itself is stunning the moment you walk in. The decor is beautiful and immersive, featuring elegant lanterns and soft hanging lights that create a warm, glowing ambiance, a prominent golden temple statue adding an authentic Thai touch, live orchids suspended from the ceiling (or swaying leaves and greenery evoking a lush, tropical feel), and overall ornate yet welcoming elements that make you feel like you've stepped into Bangkok. It's open and relaxed, with a cozy vibe perfect for a date night--my girlfriend and I felt right at home. For our meal on February 7th (a solid $71.28 subtotal before tip), we ordered: * 2 Thai Iced Teas (refreshing and spot-on) * Golden Curry Puff (crispy and flavorful appetizer) * 1 Red Curry with shrimp (my girlfriend's choice--rich, creamy, perfectly balanced with fragrant herbs and spices, very close to traditional Thai red curry) * 1 Pad Prik Khing with beef, made Thai hot (spicy level 5)--this was my dish, and wow, the heat was authentic and intense without overpowering the dish's deep, aromatic flavors from the chili paste, kaffir lime, and fresh ingredients. We walked in, and the hostess seated us right away. We were so excited;we planned to order appetizers, entrées, and dessert. Unfortunately, the excitement quickly faded due to the terrible service. We waited more than half an hour before anyone even acknowledged us. I had to literally flag someone down. At one point, a waiter came in and kicked out the people next to us but didn't even glance our way. That same waiter then proceeded to help the table behind us, even though they arrived 10 to 15 minutes after us. After struggling to get anyone's attention, I waved someone down again. He finally brought over a lady, who then called a waitress to take our order. We ended up ordering Thai spring rolls, roadside noodles, and Thai iced tea. The food was absolutely delicious, and the restaurant itself is beautiful, but the service was just too disappointing to overlook. Phattra is a very solid choice for Thai food! The location is excellent though parking might be a bit tough depending on when you come. I love the decor and ambiance; it's a nice upscale vibe while still being very affordable. My group all ordered noodle dishes and I must say that they are quite large (I think you could easily split one dish per two people depending on how hungry you are). I got the Drunken Noodles which were delicious with a little bit of a kick but not overpowering. Our server was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. Not a huge thai fan myself, but hearing how popular this restaurant in metuchen was, I decided to check it out! The inside of the restaurant is truly beautiful, with golden leaf hanging from the ceiling and all seating surrounding a statue they light incense for. There is extremely limited seating though, and for a weeknight, we had a little bit of a wait. It was quite reasonable though, but would definitely recommend to ake a reservation for large groups or keep your dining party under 4. Service is a bit slow, but very accomodating and understandable as to how busy the place was. My party all ordered the drunken noodles, and it was a great selection. Be prepared for the heat! Spice levels are on a scale of 1 to 5, and even with a 3, I felt it was quite spicy already. The calamari drunken noodles had a good amount of squid in it, as did all the other protein options. Thai ice tea was immaculate and much needed to chase down the spice! I usually do not like thai ice tea as you can taste the powder mixture many restaurant use, but this had authentic tea in it. There is Jade Buddha replica poised in the center of the room to welcome you. I knew right away, this was gonna be good! With an extensive menu Phattra serves up some of the most authentic dishes and flavors of Thailand. From the Massaman curry, the pad thai and the soft shell crab love were delicious! The first time I went to Metuchen was during a phase where I was exploring various neighborhoods located in and around Union County. That was over ten years ago and the Main Street was cute, but there were many empty store fronts and it looked like the area had seen better days. Fast forward to the last few years and that is definitely no longer the case. Main Street is vibrant and full of businesses, some relatively new (read: they were not there 10+ years ago). Many of these are restaurants and the diversity is impressive. Sushi, Pizza, Mexican, Ramen etc. are all available. On this particular night my girlfriend and I chose Phattra Thai Restaurant after ready several positive Yelp reviews about it. Reviewers who say the interior is beautiful are not joking. As soon as you enter you are greeted by a large sculpture. Hanging from the ceiling are gold Bhodi Tree leaves. The interior is definitely striking! The bathroom was also very nice. Clean, well supplied and some really nice soap at the sink. The staff is super nice and we were seated very quickly. Our very nice waitress took our order and in no time our food began to arrive. Here's a rundown of what we had. Thai Spring Rolls (Fried spring rolls stuffed with glass noodle and mixed vegetables served with sweet peach sauce) As spring rolls go, these were very nice. They were thicker than the ones than you'd typically get from say, a Chinese Take Out place. The skin was perfectly crisp and the filling was really tasty. Even better, the sweet peach sauce was wonderful. Green Papaya Salad (Tossed with shrimp, garlic, tomato, green beans and lime juice) This dish was much bigger than I expected considering this was an appetizers! There was enough for both of us to have a good helping and still have some left over. The salad was still crunchy but soft enough that it was too tough. The shrimp was a nice addition. The dressing was a bit sweet and tangy but not overwhelming in any way. I really liked it! Green Curry (With coconut milk, bamboo shoot, string bean, eggplant, bell pepper, and Thai basil) I am a big fan of Green Curry. The best I've ever had was a place in NYC's Chinatown that no longer exists, so I'm always on the hunt to find a new spot that has a good one, and I am happy to say this hit the spot! The curry had a good amount of spice balanced out by the coconut milk. There were plenty of veggies in the mix and we added chicken. Kee Mao/Drunken Noodles (Sautéed flat rice noodles with egg, string bean, onion, bell pepper, Thai basil, mushrooms) Perhaps my favorite dish of the night. We added chicken as a protein and wow! The noodles were perfectly cooked. The flavor was spot on, featuring a wonderful blend of sweetness and spiciness. There was plenty of chicken and veg, enough to have with every bite of noodles. The beautiful restaurant is located on Main Street in Metuchen. Upon entering, you are mesmerized by all the aesthetics and you know, the owners truly wanted you to feel as if you stepped into another place without the airfare. Perusing the vast menu offerings, we settled on Tofu Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle), Tofu Pad See Ew, and Soft Shell Crab Mango Salad. The noodles were more stiff than I would like them to be and the Pad See Ew was too salty for my taste. The Soft Shell Crab Mango Salad was sweet but the tartness overpowered the sweetness. The crab was fried but they defeated the delicacy with too much dressing over the crab. That salad was only romaine lettuce. It should have had some arugula and radicchio to break up the sweetness. The only dish I was most impressed with was the Tofu Kee Mao. Should I return, I would try ordering some rice dishes to compare.
